Agree.  He will not leave although he may regret it in a couple of years.  They have most of their talent coming back next year but they have to overcome some systemic issues.  They have to diversify their offense and stop being so tendency driven and they have to get back to being a physical, down hill blocking line like they were several years ago during the Adkins years.  They have the kids and size but they rarely dominate the LOS,
Also, please calls plays for your talent.  You have a good slot and a potential All-Region TE if you will use him.

Right on OG. One thing about Ryan, he will prepare for next year like a pro with it being his senior year and a bunch of great home games. With the talent they have coming back next year they should be dynamic! Could have the most usable and useful TE for sure. TICKS ME OFF he isn’t being used now! That’s always a big advantage. Scanlon is set to be prolific on both sides of the ball If he continues to grow in skill and of course speed and strength. It could pan out that some new kids coming up could also make impacts early on especially one who is already making big progress in the gym and his season just ended. The M7 in general is going to be full of talent and good teams. I  feel like the only way RV can overcome the refusal of the offensive coaching to grow, is to do it with much more strength, speed, and most importantly fundamentals. Whoever calls those plays isn’t going to adapt to their player’s abilities and team capabilities, they expect the players and team to adapt to their play calling.

A healthy RV squad I'd ride with in this one,but Tazewell wins a 21-20 one with starters for RV out.

Agreed. Just to many playmakers out or playing at 50% for RV. Never seen a team so decimated by injuries and I have been around sports for long time. Good thing they are all sophomores and juniors so they  can mostly get another run next year.

Fondled? So you’re saying I need to dress comfortably!

Lol, I forgot those rules.  Can’t take nothing in but a blanket right lol. Yea, man this will be a tough one with so many injured, but if O’Quinn can play he’s gonna be there. Having to watch the GC game on the phone while going to the ER killed him. He’s gonna bring an extra edge to Tazewell.

Pendergraft from Lee to another Mtn 7 team close by or Thomas Walker....

O'Quinn from Ridgeview to Pikeville or possibly Union as well.

Any kid from Norton down to Union as well....

Post any other possible transfers if you know of any. Rumor is Pendergraft is leaning to Union hard now......Come on up to the U.

O’ Quinn is not leaving RV. I promise. I am good friend of the family. Never ever never…Seriously this insane even to have to address. RV is gonna be amazing next year.

Depending on injury/sickness situation, it might end up being a barn burner. I’m not sure if anything really changes much regardless of which one wins. I’ll have to go look at the projection thread. Either way, I hope it’s a good game and both teams have a great showing to end regular season play.

Ridgeview is down a couple more starters. Don’t know how that happens in an off week but oh well. I’d say GC has a very good chance. Very bad year for RV regarding sickness and injury.

Not making excuses for RV’s performance at all. #17 is playing on a bad ankle (occurred in the Union game). Flu/COVID has taken a huge toll since the Union game with multiple kids being out almost the entire week of practice. Play calling has been suspect under this coaching staff and injuries have taken a lot of production off the field since the first game of the season. Bye week couldn’t have came at a better time for RV. Also physically Union took a lot out of them. Abingdon is very physical and huge. I don’t know what to make of them though. Are they the team that lost to Battle or are they a 3A school that over powered a good RV team? I think Union wins but it will be an old fashioned slobber knocker. Probably will remind some of the old LPD glory days of 3 yards and a cloud of dust. I’ll say Union 34 Abingdon 28.

I hate to see this happen to RV, seems like they got hit with everything all at once with raging flu outbreak at the school, and the dang injuries man….heck the band has been devastated by flu an Covid too, they had to drop out of one of their competition at JB. Don’t think #17 is gonna be able to compete along with a couple more. I hope they just go out and play hard with what they have without getting anyone else injured. Next year, I hope they all get flu shot early and do what they can to protect against early injuries.

  7. I know one thing, RV gets super foggy when the weather is rainy. A few years ago central came to the ridge and they played the game when we couldn’t even see the players on the field from the home side. It was crazy, because I think Central fans could see more. We would hear them get loud and cheer but wouldn’t know what was going on. They did beat RV that game as well. Happened last year when JIB played RV as well.

Union can dream can’t they? Somebody should snatch up that Lebanon QB, I was very impressed by him against Graham. Honaker doesn’t need him but Richlands is just up 460 and they could definitely use him. If Richlands had him last year with the Brown kid, they’d had a much better season.

Ryan is very faithful, loyal, and is determined. Almost all the kids playing on the field for RV are juniors and sophomores. He’s very proud to be winning with the team he’s known for a very long time, and someone mentioned academics earlier in the chat, Ryan is a student first, reads constantly, loves to learn and he high education aspirations. There is so much more to Ryan O’Quinn than the elite QB he is. He believes in his friends and teammates and he knows they believe in him.

  9. Yes Honaker. I think Ridgeview, like other schools, hopes to have a healthy team not sick form flu man. They have had multiple players sick the last two weeks. Don’t know if there are anyone left who hasn’t had it. I look for a close game for sure. Luke Honaker has a lot of family from the area so he will be playing hard. Being at home will give RV a decent advantage as long as RV plays up to their potential. I’m really loving Deel running the ball. To be a sophomore he’s got amazing potential. Scanlon is on a mission, I think, to define himself as a major defensive threat and big tight-end playmaker. Lots of potential for one or two playoff upsets if rankings stay where there at with RV. But we will see where the rankings end up.

Guys let’s not get too excited. RV is gonna come to play and they can test Union in unique ways. I think it’s a one possession, last team with ball wins game.

Agreed. Those who do not watch RV regularly do not really know what’s they have. There are elements that if they get going, they are going hard and strong. I understand the chatter that RV has not played anyone, but let’s face it, Graham is down big this year, VHS gave them a game as well, GC is not who people thought they would be, Lee is down, SH came over to Union with a lackadaisical attitude, it’s just not a strong competition field this year period. I believe the camel that breaks RV if Union wins, is Bullet Park and that phobia RV has about playing there just like playing In Bluefield. RV just does not play the road well anytime, especially those two places.

I tracked their tendencies last year and they ran the ball on 1st down 87% of the time and up the middle on first down 69% of the time.  The average for 1st down runs between the tackles was 2.7 YPC.  Now, on the 1st down runs that were around the edge, they averaged 5.7 YPC.  They gained an average of 9.7 yards on first down throws to INCLUDE INCOMPLETIONS!  But they just refused to do it.  And this was with a starting WR corp that was 6'1", 6'2" and 6'3" and two of those kids playing college ball now.  Their play calling and lack of self analysis it maddening!

RV wants to run with power but isn't committed or coached to do it.  To be successful, you have to know yourself and your strengths and weaknesses.

You are so on point..your insight is so valuable

  12. Certainly the line disadvantage hurts RV. RV line has shown glimpses of being able to block, but a lot more of giving up the block early. RV has got to stop trying to run up the middle so frequently..they waste so many plays trying that from a observation standpoint. Maybe it’s to set up another play somewhere down the line but it’s frustrating to watch.
Union is so battle tested now it’s hard to imagine they take this game lightly especially since what it means for points and standing. Very solid team but they have weaknesses as well. This will be a who shows up game, and who maintains composure by not creating self-defeating penalties and mistakes.

    Exactly

Well said. It seems like every season the union train gets going and it’s all you hear about. They haven’t even one the mtn. Seven in two years and now they beat Graham who is missing some key players and the chatter has exploded. Obviously Graham is way down without those players. Union is great, for sure, but man, those kids playing there get a lot of pressure put on them. RV is actually a very very good team with some line problems, but they work around it. There are some studs on that team and they are almost only playing juniors and sophomores. Like Union. Abingdon is turning the corner for sure. Honaker is a leader and will lead Abingdon. I think Union has great odds, but so do several others competing for the championship.

  14. RV seems to have grown more each week. The slow start against central was a positive thing for them I believe because they had to work through some issues. O’Quinn is elusive this year and he doesn’t tuck and run like like the past. He escapes and evades to find receivers making themselves open, and that’s what seems to be working the most. The receivers are pushing to get open. The running game is also proving lucrative with three running backs. But man, Branson Honaker running the ball is like a bull, and Deel is the real deal. Of course when O’Quinn runs he always covers some serious ground. It is still game by game for RV with expectations being just that. Bearcats will be different than the others for sure. I haven’t watched them any but just knowing they always have athletes worries RV fans including myself. RV by three scores in a hard fought game For both teams.

Ridgeview’s entire middle school team are supposed to be freshman/sophomores so I reckon they’re pretty good. Their JV not so much

Yea, RV middle school has Cannon Hills little Bro and a bunch of studs. The leagues below them are stacked as well. You can expect players form the middle school jump right in to Varsity play more than likely their freshman year. RV should be good for a few years for sure.

I thought the Deel kid looked good after replacing Hackney the other night.

He looked pretty good and he looked great on defense. He let a receiver get behind him on one play but was still able to get back quick enough and jump with enough hang time deflect the pass that would have been a touchdown easily. He’s gonna be extremely exciting to watch through the next three years. Same with fuller and the others. Most of the players that plays are not seniors.

  17. I have to admit, RV has some deep talent that I didn’t expect. So far this season at any given time, most of the players on the field are sophomores and juniors. O’Quinn is such a different player this year. He is poised, makes reads, accurate, scrambles, fast, and meticulous thus far. Central will be the first 2A team they play, so we will see if the level of play can carry over. RV has an amazing second string QB and skill players as well. The more I watch them, the more excited I get of the possibilities this year. I believe Central can turn into a threat anytime like always, but I have to believe RV runs away with this one and there is a running clock second half….

He’s probably looking at Tazewell and Ridgeview’s common opponents.

    Grundy
    Ridgeview: W, 34-20
    Tazewell: W, 28-14

    Richlands
    Ridgeview: W, 33-6 (home)
    Tazewell: W, 56-37 (away)

    Battle
    Ridgeview: W, 42-6
    Tazewell: W, 39-16 (backup QB)

    Bluefield
    Ridgeview: L, 44-24
    Tazewell: L, 46-20

You add up the total number of points that Ridgeview was better than Tazewell in those 4 combined games, it comes out to 27 points.  Hence, Ridgeview is 27 points better than Tazewell.

    It’s science.

Well in the RL and JB games RV had their big guns out of the game a few minutes into the third quarter. They keep O’Quinn in a lot since he has to play with most of the second team next year, that way he can get some game reps with them.

  19. If the RV that played at GC shows up for this game it’s hard to imagine RV not getting another impressive win. It was just amazing how many weapons that was used offensively against GC and how shutdown lights out the defense was. However, if they show up as the regular season RV team that was offensively self destructive, it will be a long day, but I still believe they would get the win. Finally seeing RV play to potential was a really good show. Question is that now they have experienced it themselves, can they keep doing it?
