  1. I watched quite a bit of track this past spring. Stevie Thomas is significantly faster in the 100m than the others….won Region with an 11.27…Lomax finished at 11.7. Jenkins didn’t run track (baseball kid), Webb didn’t run track but I seriously doubt he’s better than 11.27 and Beavers was VHSL State runner up in the 400…..looks like he didn’t runs the 100-200. Doesn’t look like Bradshaw ran track as well. Just checked and Thomas finished 6th at VHSL in 100m with an 11.1……pretty dang fast gents. For the eye test…Bradshaw and Thomas hit their high end quicker than the others. Jenkins/Webb not too far behind. Beavers is a classic long strider…get him in first 10-15 yards before that stride turns over. Good thing about track….numbers don’t lie. Oh…the younger Thomas finished Top 12 in State with an 11.7 and he was as just a freshman (sophomore this season).
  2. They’ve put up 60+ three times….. against two 1A’s and John Battle. Methinks that won’t happen against Graham.
  3. VT Davis nailed it. I can’t add much else to his summary. IMHO Tester is just as good as Lomax and Central’s Boggs and the other Central kid (can’t remember his name) is excellent as well. It felt like it was more difficult to run vs Central than Union….I’d have to check the stats. Now, to be fair, RV’s O’Quinn was playing only his second career game against Central. That could account for some of it. A quick rewatch of both games shows more room and missed opportunities against the Bears than Central. Again…to be fair, Central was the first bracket they had seen on Beavers so they almost deserted throwing the ball his way. Against Union’s bracket/quarters, they adjusted and got him the ball more, which draws out some of that LB aggression.
  4. Are they taking Top 8 on PP and seeding them or are they taking top 4 in each district and cross bracketing them? I would prefer the later …ensured more variety of matchups.
  5. This will probably upset Union fans but Central has the best LB core in the M7 (Caveat- haven’t seen Abingdon…but they are 3A anyway). Both games were similar…RV had problems in the first half but began to move it easier in the second half. Of course, Central runs their 3.5 yards and a cloud of rubber dust offense that will try to possess the ball. I wasn’t impressed with Central’s passing offense at all. Once they got down two scores late, RV’s pass rush got home almost every play. Union’s pass offense is better than Central’s; however, Mullins can even the score as a WR for Central. Two things determine this one- 1) turnovers/penalties 2) OL DL matchup on both sides. I’d think we would see lots of 5-9 minute possessions and a 21-14 type score. This should be a LB’s dream matchup.
  6. Va High has serious skill position talent and that will be good for several points. I haven’t watched their Oline but their defense has given up some points. Graham should win this game but I do think Bearcats have enough speed and skill to possibly pull the upset. I’d like to watch this game and I’m glad that Va High is “back”. Makes up for a down Richlands.
  7. The train horn blew through the snap count in the first half ….often. I’m not sure how you can honestly say you are in compliance with the rules. I just think it unnecessarily detracts from the game and experience. You don’t NEED to do that…good park, good fanbase and good team. I know numerous RV people specifically brought air horns to “give them a taste of their own medicine”. This is where we are now and I’m willing to bet that VHSL outlaws all air horns in next two years. It pisses me off when someone behind me unleashes one and I’m taking a drink of coke or a bite of hotdog.
  8. I think it was #10 then. It was a “quarters” defense and is pretty evident to see on film. There are “quarters busters” but you have to rep them and have them ready. They will see this more. I will more than happy to screen shot or share film. There were double safeties literally on every dang play.
  9. I do think the consolidation school names were bland as hell. My all time favorite name (I would t want to have the name though) are the Poca “Dots” in WV. I mean…wow….that’s courage.
  10. Do you have a pic? I do think gray and orange are pretty tight together. We will have to do a worst uniform post as well. I wasn’t too impressed with their play either. I thought Graham would win but not by that spread.
  11. It all adds up. I don’t think it was a coincidence that Union outscored RV 14-0 in the first half and RV outscored Union 21-14 in the second. Same thing happened two years ago. “Slow” starts….critical penalties on RV…. bad snaps while a freakin train horn is blowing through your snap count…forced use of timeouts. Fourteen seconds running off the clock on penalty with less than four minutes left in the game. Broken play clocks (favors the slower paced team). Ounces add up to pounds.
  12. I wasn’t on here at the time or I would have backed you up. I suspect we will see action on this…it got a lot more attention this time. Bubbas didn’t even try to cut it off….blew all the way through the play. WCYB-TV had it on TV. Lol.
  13. Yes, I noticed that and I’m a big fan as well. Good touch. I also like how RV has the wolf on one side and their number on the other. It’s different..mixes it up a bit. The lightning R is the best letter logo..instantly recognized.
  14. Well, being a 3A school playing in a 2A conference has its advantages. Lol. They should re-zone and send 150 kids to John Battle or make them drive to Roanoke. I’m really surprised other M7 schools don’t complain more about this.
  15. Turner calls for a measurement on a 3rd and 2….it was a full two yards short…RV side went nuts. Turner immediately pulled his offense to the sideline and drew up a play….free timeout. RV’s defense stayed on the field. Refs not smart enough to know what just happened.
  16. Because 40 year old men think it’s okay to knowingly due illegal stuff (with the schools consent) to mess with 16, 17 kids from another team. From what I’ve seen over the years…they don’t hide from it, They own it. I’m an old Army guy who still believes in integrity. Do the right thing. I’m a dinosaur, I guess.
  17. I was there. Everything I said stands…doesn’t matter if he mumbles (he does do that- RV’s is no better—-come to think of it a lot of places have guys like that). If RV’s band did, I’m surprised because I didn’t hear them play much of anything. That horn tho’. Straight up illegal guys and those dudes know it. RV burned two timeouts due to it in the first half. A spade is a spade. I also noticed there was no running play clock (was told they were broke) and I specifically watched all the refs and never saw one check time. On a 2nd and 8 (running clock situation) the Union QB walked to the sideline and got the play from the coach and half jogged back, called the play in the huddle, walked to the line and then burned another 4-5 seconds on the call…..not one ref checked time. Absolutely 0% chance that happened within 40 seconds. Chalk it up to home field advantage.
  18. I like you guys in a blue jersey and white pants and just use orange as an accent. You can have too much much of one color (see Graham’s horrible all yellow unis).
  19. It seems like they have a different uniform each week. They go from a really good look to boring in the span of a week.
  20. I like these as well…but I’d like them with white pants more.
  21. Look…blow your horn all you want until they break the huddle and then stop….follow the dang rules and have some integrity. It ain’t hard. I also noticed the band played and the PA announcer was vocal during RV’s snap count as well. So, either they aren’t educated in the rules or just don’t care. It drew a lot of attention from the RV side. If they aren’t careful, I can see them banning all air horn devices. I think they did that in the playoffs (can someone check me on that?).
  22. Underneath…a curl/ short hitch, out and something else I can’t remember. Hell, they only targeted him once or twice on the first half.🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️. With a S giving you 10-12 yards of cushion, I would have ran outs and slants until you let go of that cushion. I specifically watched Bunch’s back peddle ( he kind of shuffles) and break on the ball. RV didn’t target that enough. There is one double move pattern that I was begging to be thrown….don’t think it’s in their route-tree though.
  23. Well, it’s also against VHSL rules but they don’t enforce it. You cannot blow it once the offense is over the ball. I’m pretty sure they know it’s illegal as well. They stopped in the second half….RV coaches probably called attention to it.
  24. They threw one deep, an under thrown fade. I watched every snap of this matchup. Bunch wasn’t alone on him as they inverted a corner (#18) and placed him inside of Beavers. They bracketed him the whole game. If Bunch could “handle” him they wouldn’t have needed to add another DB and bracket. They adopted the exact same approach as Central did…so, Turner did change his defense. Give him credit for not allowing ego to get in the way. Beavers will have to face a bracket the rest of his career. Looks like they are finding ways to defeat it. I still would have thrown the skinny post. Bunch was 10 yards off and playing extreme outside technique. He would not have been able to get over on a post, nor run him down. RV has over relied on the fade to #7. They need to show more diversity on his routes.
  25. Beavers had 5 catches on 6 targets for over 100 yards and a TD. They should have targeted Bunch more….he can cover a fade at 6’6” with a 11 yard cushion but he didn’t come close to defending the out, screen or curl. He was toasted by 10 yards on the screen. RV coaches missed some chances…come-back, hitch, skinny post are all there. Gotta have the courage to throw those routes.
