Don't see how that can happen in the middle of the season besides, schools don't have a "choice" to play up or down in Divisions...they are split equally within the Regions according to the VHSL Handbook.
-
Its a "comparative" thing...compared to how they normally do during any given season...Bland Co.-undefeated, Montcalm-only one loss through 5 games, Bluefield-.500...Bland Co. and Montcalm are having outstanding seasons for Bland Co. and Montcalm. Hurley is also undefeated...Northwood fell off the list after losing this week. Also, its kinda of a "who's hot" list as well...if Bluefield beats Graham this week to go to 3-2 winning its last three games, don't be suprised to see them on the "Watch List" next week.

You know, it was probably the same cop that directs traffic at the HS in the mornings. He probably drove around for 2 hours with his lights on not knowing it...

Richlands, Liberty-Bedford, Turner Ashby and Graham are the Division 3 schools in the top 10.

Richlands - 781 students
Liberty - 1037 students
Turner Ashby - 712 students
Graham - 385 students
Looks like somebody has a slight advantage...

They are still in the hunt. If they win the River Ridge they are in. If they only lose one more game, they still have a shot but will come down to points for the 4th seed in the Region.

this morning.
Heading to work on my usual route. Get stopped at a red light, wait for it to turn green...hit the gas, get up to speed 35-40 mph...speed limit is 35.
All of the sudden, I look in my review mirror and a cop with his lights on is heading right towards my rear bumper. I'm thinking to myself "what did I do?". Look down at the speedometer...38 mph...naw can't be that. Did I run the red light? Did I only imagine it turned green? Naw, can't be that either. Maybe someone stole my license plate off my car...it is a VT tag and this is the VT-WVU game week.
So I began to slow, turned on my signal looking for a place to pull over. As I pulled over, the cop pulls up along side my car. As my window is already rolled down, he asks,
"Is everything OK? Are you alright?".
I reply "yeh, I'm fine, why?"
"Well, you slowed down and pulled over, I thought something might be wrong."
I reply "Well, you did come flying up on my bumper with your lights on, I thought you wanted me to pullover."
He looks at me perplexed and says "Oh! Sorry, I didn't know my lights were on." He quickly speeds away...
Ah, Bluefield, VA's finest!!!

on the Rivals board this week...pathetic...some people are too stupid to realize how ignorant they make the whole state of West Virginia look...

I'm not convinced that this game exposed a weakness for Liberty so much as it demonstrated Western's strength. Besides, winning on the road at a Group AAA opponent isn't an easy feat to begin with. If Liberty had actually lost the game, then I'd say that the Minutemen faithful have reason for concern. The fact that they gave up that kind of yardage and still won is a big positive, IMO.
Good point about Hidden Valley. Region III will be a crap shoot, but I still think Liberty's previous playoff experience gives them an edge overall. Although they still aren't much of a measuring stick, Staunton River has improved a lot. Liberty's performance against them this week ought to provide insight as to the overall effect that Webb's loss will have.
I agree with you about Amherst. I'll be shocked if anyone beats the Lancers this year. But I do think that ending the season against them is exactly the kind of preparation that Liberty will need heading into the playoffs. And if the Minutemen can finish that game within 14 points or better, they'll get a good surge of momentum that will make them hard to handle.
Lot of football left, though. And it's already one of the better spectator seasons in my 34 year old memory.
[/ QUOTE ]
Western Albemarle is AA, Division 3 in Region II. Amherst Co. knocked them silly in their season opener 58-12 at WA...WA had nowhere near those kind of passing numbers against the Lancers. Don't get me wrong, Liberty is still a good team but they are no longer as "invincible" as they once may have seemed. They do have a D-1 lineman who can wreak havoc but if anyone has the hogs to stop/slow him down, Richlands is the team.
I must agree with you about playoff experience being a huge advantage for Liberty but don't forget, C'burg took Gretna to the wire last season...anything can happen. Playing SR this weekend will be good for Liberty in that it will allow them to try and "find" someone to replace Webb without having much concern about the outcome of the game, which by the way, won't be close regardless.
-
Liberty was actually behind 7-0 before realing off 20 straight points. WA is a passing team, they run the spread 85%+ of the time. Liberty's "weakness" was exposed to the point they gave up big yardage and 26 points. Without the RB that got hurt, Liberty will not be nearly as potent on offense. This game will tell a lot about Liberty's future...they will not beat Amherst Co. now...period! And, the Region III, Division 3 playoff picture just got a little muddier...we all know about Liberty, Christiansburg, and Cave Spring, but lots of folks are overlooking Hidden Valley...the Titans will be a key player in Reg. III, D-3...
-
Not counting chickens before they hatch, and not giving the Region IV title to the Blue Tornado just yet, HOWEVER, I thought this was an interesting stat the RHS faithful might want to keep in mind regarding Liberty-Bedford...they seem to be susceptible to the pass...
"Western Albemarle (2-2) rallied behind quarterback Mark Jordan, who completed 27 of 38 passes for 361 yards"
That's a lot of yards for a good team to give up through the air...

how would that put you in the playoffs - if that is the case, then the district is split 3 ways, and all 3 teams go to the playoffs ??? i don't believe that is right
[/ QUOTE ]
Its not right. In case of a tie for the district title, the team with the highest VHSL RATING would win the tiebreaker and would receive the "auto-bid" to the playoffs. Any other teams from that district would have to qualify solely on VHSL Rating points...and Abingdon is not likely to do that...

If you would like to track down and compile ALL those stats, I would gladly post them on the website.
As I've said before, I do this website on my own "free time". I have a job, and a life, that takes up more than a majority of the time I have...I'm lucky to find time to keep the site up to date as it is.
