  1. Freeman was placed on the 15-day DL with a strained oblique.
  2. There's an enthusiasm in Atlanta for Braves' baseball that hasn't been there in a number of years. We're only five games into the season, but it's hard not to be excited over what we've witnessed thus far...
  3. My concern at this point is Hudson and Maholm not being able to pitch at least six innings. We cannot overextend the bullpen during the regular season.
  4. Sheriff confirmed today that carbon monoxide was the cause of death. It s very sad to see life, especially young life, lost to something easily preventable.
  5. Stuck in the mud + cold night + likely intoxicated + three deceased individuals = carbon monoxide poisoning. We shall see...
  6. Fairmont had me worried going into today because of the athletic, quick, and strong team they had. Bluefield played the way they are capable of though; they hit them in the mouth early and Fairmont was too stunned to recover. Congratulations to the Beavers, it was obvious what this title meant to those kids and coaches. And EVERYONE is back next year!
  7. Fairmont is going to be a TALL task for Beaver. They are not a tall team, but they are strong, athletic, and fast.
  8. Yes; general admission is $8. However, with the game being sandwiched between two AAA games including Beckley/South Charleston you better get here as soon as possible. The Civic Center does a poor job with moving the ticket line quickly. I stood in line for an hour last year during the Friday morning session and missed the first half of Tug and Wyo. East. Tickets will go on-sale for the evening session as the final game of the first session is ending.
  9. This site has and will have live audio and stats of every WV state tournament game. http://wvmetronews.com/wordpress/wp-content/themes/metronews/hstournament/?type=boys
  10. I'm on spring break this week, so my Dad and I are heading up on Thursday afternoon and will be staying through Saturday. Hopefully Bluefield can make it to Saturday and hoist the trophy when all is said and done. One thing is certain, on paper at least, this looks like one of the most competitive tournaments in years for each class.
  11. Uggla was not brought in to simply "contribute," he was brought in to lead. And he sure isn't getting paid the salary of a mere "contributing" player. You are right though, unless Pasternicky improves defensively or someone else emerges it is unlikely Uggla gets benched.
  12. Chances Uggla gets benched at some point this season? He has been dreadful at the plate thus far into spring. I hope our most recent acquisitions turn out better than the Uggla debacle.
  13. Thanks for the info. Bluefield does not have to win sectionals to make regionals, just need to make sectional title game. However, losing sectionals would be horrendous and give away home court in regionals.
  14. Heard he injured his ankle against JM on Friday night; what is the extent of the injury? Any timetable on his return with the postseason starting next week?
  15. Sounds like J-Hey really put in a lot of work in the off-season preparing his body. http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/baseball/heyward-and-uptons-outfield-takes-shape/nWMsY/
  16. For some, a few extra million is worth more than contending.
  17. I was at the gamee; despite the loss there are positives to take away. First, Coppola really played well and that will be huge heading into March. Secondly, Beaver shot horrendously in the second half and yet got within four points with under four minutes left before running out of steam. Third, this team never quits or gives up no matter how bleak things look. The difference in the game was the 6'9 big man, his presence was big on both ends of the floor; he got in the minds of the Bluefield players. But, no other contending team in AA has that type of size nor do they have a player as good as Watson on the perimeter.
  18. Great trade by the Braves. I, too, hate to see Prado leave, but the chances of signing him after the season were very slim. So they land Upton who is locked in for the next three years; ATL comes out ahead in this deal. The defensive ability of this team will be phenomenal.
  19. O'Brien is reporting that Teheran is likely being offered, which I hate to hear.
  20. Frank Wren confirmd last week that there have been no talks with Bourn and his agent since beginning of December. I agree, a Justin Upton trade is more likely than re-signing Bourn.
  21. At least Trimble and Manns would fight inside, which is more than can be said for the guys inside last night. I do not know what the deal is with Coppla, but he played scared and soft last night. If he does not toughen up he needs to sit down. Getting dunked on not once, but twice was sad; the second one was vicious. The coaching staff needs to work on building some depth inside and let the younger kids play; they could not do any worse. Beaver will struggle with any team that has good guards that can shoot and penetrate along with good, productive size inside. I am not sure any teams in AA possess those attributes, but if they do they stand a good chance against Beaver.
  22. Used to collect big time in the early 90s, but got out before the industry went bust. At that time I collected mostly basketball including every Shaquille card made during his first three years in the league. I got back into the game on a smaller scale several years ago collecting mostly Jason Heyward. I own several high-end Heyward cards including four 1 of 1's with my favorite being the 2012 Topps Tier One Bat Knobs which was the hottest set of the year with guys like Ruth, Cobb, Mantle, etc.
  23. My comments were merely about the difference in the quality of Southern WV teams and those in Southwestern Virginia. There are and have been good teams/programs from the NRV and eastward through Virginia on the hardwood including Martinsville, Radford, Hidden Valley, Cave Spring, etc. However, high school basketball in Virginia does not exist westward past Blacksburg.
  24. Did anyone really expect anything, but a blowout tonight? The gap between basketball in Southern WV and Southwestern Virginia has been and still is wide.
