  1. Tech would probably lose, but not like they did to LSU. LSU and UF have completely different offensive systems, and as much as I hate Tech, there defense is still one of the best around. The reason they lost the games they did last year was because of 0 help from the offense. The past few years VT has done better than most against spread teams like UF, Clemson and WVU are evidence of that.

  3. [ QUOTE ] Don't know for sure, but I would imagine coach Jackson will be running basically the same offense as he did before. Multiple sets, will set up in a wing T formation as the base, but a whole lot of other stuff, including some spread formations. Don't know how successful they'll be because I don't know who the QB will be, but there should be more emphasis on the passing game this year. I would guess instead of 90 percent run , you're probably looking at more like 60-65 percent run [/ QUOTE ] I'd say that's about right. The good thing about the wing T that we ran before is it's VERY similar to the single wing, big difference being the "blocking back" isn't there and you have an under-center QB. Jackson would like to run-pass 50-50, bit 60-70 run and 30-40 pass is definetly a little more realistic unless we've got some type of secret weapons at QB and WR.
  4. [ QUOTE ] Ali really showed what he can do when he has a good team around him. He showed off tonight and was awarded the South's MVP. Ansel was thrown to twice or three times and caught one pass for about a yard...the reason being Michael Scott of Nitro was the quarterback and Marcos Valentine, also of Nitro, was a receiver. Also, the second quarterback on the team was from Buffalo and couldnt throw the ball more than 20 yards in the air. Anyway, it was a good game. I was entertained. Cordero High did great. I hope he goes with his invite to walk-on at Marshall and keeps up with it. Like Ive said before in another post, he has the abilities to play D-1 ball, just who knows with his attitude and behavior. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah with Ali and High, it's a shame neither one of them had a very good team around them last year. It'll make it tougher for then to get noticed quickly, but they just need to stick with it wherever they end up and good things can happen.
  5. In other words you in the same boat as JM and Bluefield. Good players but a rebuilding year as well.
  6. BTW, how is Wayne looking this year? That's of particular interest in Monroe County right now.
  7. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] So when do June drills start? [/ QUOTE ] Next week @ JMHS; 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. I believe. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks a bunch.
  8. So when do June drills start?
  9. I grew up in the 80's and early 90's. Most of theat stuff was still going on around hear in my early years. Makes you think about how times have changed. And not for the better I might add.
  10. [ QUOTE ] Is the JM vs. Wayne game at JM? [/ QUOTE ] Sure is, September 5 at Lindside.
  11. [/ QUOTE ]Because Princeton didn't want to play...tired of losing to Graham EVERY TIME they played for the last 20 years...go ask Coach Spadero if you don't believe me... 2004...Graham 38 Princeton 7 1997...Graham 31 Princeton 10 1996...Graham 27 Princeton 0 1991...Graham 51 Princeton 0 1990...Graham 20 Princeton 12 1989...Graham 34 Princeton 0 1988...Graham 29 Princeton 0 [/ QUOTE ] Those are some pretty nasty whippin's. BTW, what defensive set does Graham use most of the time?
  12. Right now the James Monroe-Wayne matchup. This will be the Mavs first game back with the new offense, and unless Wayne is down, that game will show how good a job we've done at getting the team prepared. It would be a big win early in the season.
  13. Somebody's been talking with the WVSSAC. Hey that's not fair, we're supposed to be theonly state stupid enough to have an idea like that!
  14. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Don't pay any attention to GMan. Graham has done nothing to brag about. So he tries to bring everyone else down to their level... [/ QUOTE ] They've got more State Titles than James Monroe/Peterstown/Union combined... [/ QUOTE ] Only one of which was in the past 2 decades.
  15. [/ QUOTE ]You can take it as a knock if you like, but my point is you aren't supposed to score 50+ points on your opponents in the State Quarters, Semis, and Finals...unless your team is REALLY that good... [/ QUOTE ] I know your not usually going to put up that many points a the postseason, but my view's always been that if you take out the factors of special teams and turnover's (which I know you can't), a loss where you score under 20 points is the offenses fault, if you scored more than 20, the defense let you down, unless it's a bloout then you can usually blame both. One reason why the single wing never gained popularity in Monroe County was the fact that during that 5 year span, JM never lost a "shootout", the only games we scored over 20 in were 46-20 and 63-22 loses to Poca and Weir. Point is, you're not going to win very many games only scoring around 15 points. Coach Jackson let the Maverick's offense get too one-dimensional at times as well, especially in 2002, but most of the time you had to stop the run and the pass. quite simply, the air game's been the missing piece of the puzzle for several years at JM, God-willing we can get that taken care of.
  16. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Where we left off was an offense that averaged 15 points per game over the last 3 games. [/ QUOTE ] That's because you finally started playing some QUALITY competition...unlike most of your regular season schedule... [/ QUOTE ] So what your saying is we should've figured out before the season who the top 8 AA teams were and schedule all of them. Yeah, that's gonna happen. That being said, we did play the other 2 semifinal teams, Bluefield and Scott, and Liberty and Wyoming East made the playoffs too. Even Bluefield only 6 opponents make the playoff, and them and JM had 4 common opponents and 3 of them were non-playoff teams. Not sure what this little kick you've been on lately knocking JM is all about, but you need to get over it because your starting to make yourself look retarded.
  17. [ QUOTE ] The O-line will be the ? mark. You just don't lose the entire line and pickup where you left off! It should be interesting though. [/ QUOTE ] Where we left off was an offense that averaged 15 points per game over the last 3 games. I'm not trying to make light of the situation, but I've got alot of confidence in the team too, it's not like these kids that will be on the line have never seen a football before. I'm just saying we've been hear before, and it wasn't the nuclear disaster some thought it would be. Anyone who thinks the Mavs will be too far off from the last couple of years will likely have a long evening and a longer ride home.
  18. [/ QUOTE ] I think the main problem will definitely be the line. Worry, worry, worry . . . [/ QUOTE ] Don't know if it'll be a problem, definetly a ? though. We were pretty young on the line in 2005 and still did real good out of the box that year. If we successfully get a little bit of air attack going with quick strikes to the backs and TE's early on. it won't be as much of a worry.
  19. [ QUOTE ] I feel like it will be Ballengee's job to lose. I have a feeling they could put Robertson in some shotgun formations like they did Ben Thornton and give him the option of run or pass. [/ QUOTE ] That's probably pretty close to what will happen. They did that with Nick Newberry some too. Give you the option to run the spread without being over-dependent on it. The backfield should be fairly deep, barring injuries of course, Robertson, Keisel, and Thompsom SHOULD all get to run it fairly evenly. I'd say Robinson and Ray will be the main wideouts, but I've been wrong before.
  20. [ QUOTE ] Haven't heard who's in the hunt, but I'm thinking maybe Robertson or Ballengee (you know they were in middle school). Any other thoughts? [/ QUOTE ] Those were 2 I thought of as well. Don't know if he's ever QBed before, but Logan Ray's pretty tall, and pitches in baseball. Braxton Thompson used to QB some in middle school, I thought they might put him in a back up role. It'll be interesting to see what they do.
  21. With June drills only a month away, has anyone spoken with Coach Jackson on possible QB's for JM this season? I've got 2 or 3 in mind, just wondering what anyone alse has heard.
  22. That game was originally scheduled for Aug 29, anyone know why it was moved to Oct 10? Gotta tell you it would've been nice to have a game under our belts before Wayne comes to town, but I guess it is what it is.
  23. [ QUOTE ] Is it true that Eli Bookout transferred to Wyoming East to play b-ball there? [/ QUOTE ] If that true, that probably will hurt JM's B-ball team a good bit. Guess he did what he thought he had to due, and with the coaching contreversy and all last year, you can't really blame him.
  24. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Wonder where he'll end up...prison or some school that will take anybody regardless of character??? [/ QUOTE ] Beamer loves the "run and gun" types. [/ QUOTE ] Too bad Stiney doesn't know how to use them... [/ QUOTE ] It would be a "crime" for VT not to look at the kid. He'd fit right in with some of the other salt of the earth QB's they've had there the last few years. Hey, when all else fails, just blame it on there home life. That seems to be the standard excuse.
  25. Who would've thought a year ago that 5 out of 8 Mountaineers going pro could be from the defense, what a differnce a season makes.
