  1. [ QUOTE ] If Witt retired because of health reasons, then why would anyone think he would take the Giles job? Has everyone forgot about this? As far as coaches go, Donnie Jackson is just as good a coach as Witt. They both had the same problem, they folded under pressure. Both made stupid calls in critical situations. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, when you look at their records at JM, they're pretty close. I still haven't heard what "health problems" Witt had though.
  2. [ QUOTE ] I kind of think that the read/option spread is a version of the single wing. Just my 2 cents. [/ QUOTE ] The only major difference is the single wing is better for power running, the Spread is better for speedy teams, or teams with 1 exceptional player like Jordan Roberts at Scott. Both or similar in the fact that if you haven't extablished a passing game, your setting yourself up to be completly shutdown, but that goes for most offenses.
  3. Let's see, Jackson was 1-5 against Bluefield, Witt was 2-5, boy, what an improvement! Bottom line is that once the post-season started, both of them stunk it up. I'm personally hoping that James Monroe hires some new blood. I'm sure we coould have done alot worse, but those 2 could had been out-coached by a 10-year old in some of those playoff loses.
  4. [ QUOTE ] If Whitt gets the Giles job the James Monroe folks will be kicking themselves for years to come. The man is a heck of a coach, that turned an underachieving playoff program into a consistent postseason winner. [/ QUOTE ] And how many championships does he have to show for it? 0. And only one trip to Wheeling at that, we should've been up there the past 3 years strait, and should've won at least one of those. James Monroe would've won most of those games even if Witt hadn't been the coach. The junior and senior classes this year have whipped up on opponent's since they were in 3rd grade. There are alot of people that think the single wing has handicapped the Mavericks. I'm still neatral in that argument, but some type of passing game would've been nice. The lack of one was a major problem last year, especially against Bluefield and Magnolia.
  5. Didn't Richlands run a totally different offense than Giles? If they did, and whoever comes in trys something other than the single wing, they'll have to do some re-decorating in Giles county, it's all they've known there for 30 years. I'd be VERY surprised if David Witt doesn't try for this job.
  6. All of the sudden it hit me that Dave Witt might try for it. He was a Giles assistant for several years, and is the only head coach in the area with with significant experience running the single wing. He'd get alot more support running that offense at Giles than he did in Monroe Co. Call me crazy, but somehow I think Dave Witt might've known this was coming for a month or 2.
  7. Wow. I knew people had talked about this, but most thought it was 3-4 years away. Giles Football is definitly the house that Steve Ragsdale built. Anyone know of possible replacements?
  8. I think my wife will try to make a similar one for football games.
  9. That's close enough. Has the regional opponent been determined yet?
  10. All of the sudden my dismissal of man-made climate change in another post doesn't look that stupid.
  11. That's good news for all-involved in open wheel racing.
  12. Anyone heard about this? My dad told me last night that the Yankees will play Tech in Blacksburg for an exibition sometime this spring. It's supposed to be a fund-raiser for the Tech Memorial fund.
  13. [ QUOTE ] Yes, he received two technicals and was ejected. He will be suspended for 3 games. So he wont be available for the sectional game, regional game or first round of states(if we make it there). [/ QUOTE ] That's gotta hurt.
  14. [ QUOTE ] I don’t care how many people are thinking it...that doesn’t make it right. If fact, that makes it even more wrong because it shows how many racist people are truly out there. I’m not one to ever play the “race card†and I think all of the political correctness is sickening nowadays...but this is blatant stereotyping and it is just wrong. To be honest it plays right into the stereotype that people have of this part of the country...ignorant, racist, rednecks. [/ QUOTE ] If I were racist, I'd have made this about the color of his skin, not religion or name. I don't have a problem with a black man being president, or any other race for that matter. Die-hard Bush-haters are blinded by their hate and are willing to to completely look past Obama's record, and a family history that raises a few red flags given the war that we're in right now. At best Obama would be weak on defense and immigration, at worst we'll be seeing more terror attacks here as a result of that. You can call me "racist" all you want, but I brought up a point that alot of Obamaites don't like, and don't have an intelligent couter for. Like it or not, this probably won't be the last time it's brought up this year. If you feel you need to have the last word, hear's your chance. This is all I have to say on the subject, because the more responses I see to it, the dumber some people are making themselves look.
  15. [ QUOTE ] OK, I played your game...now try mine. Will you please make a fist, place it in your chair, extend your thumb, and sit on it. Seems to be what you are doing anyway when it comes to your views about someones birth given name! [/ QUOTE ] And I sounded ignorant? R-Right. Like it or not, I just said what alot of others are thinking, if that makes me a racist, bigot or ignorant then oh well. I originally brought it up as a joke, but it does bring up an interesting point. We are fighting against radical Islam right now, and this man's family has a Muslim background, his name proves that. I think it's something that should at least be looked into, common sense should tell you that. I'll tell you as fast anyone that 80-90% of the rumors about Obama or any candidate are BS, but the fact that so many people have been mesmorized by a relatively unknown man is of some concern to me. Obama talks about change, but what kind of change? You can talk about racial and ethnic tolerance all you want to, but political correctness and letting down are garud got us into this war to start with. Demonizing me for saying that WILL NOT make the problem go away.
  16. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] I’m not saying that I will voting for the guy or that I agree with his views, but I think even considering not voting for a guy based on what his name sounds like is pretty ignorant and may even be considered bigoted. [/ QUOTE ] You should note the other reasons I listed for not voting for him. Trust me, his name has nothing to do with why I won't vote for him. And saying that could be considered bigoted? To say the least that's a bit of a stretch [/ QUOTE ] That'd be about the same as me considering you an ignorant redneck from Monroe County but that isn't so outlandish to say considering the statements you've made about voting for someone based on their last name. [/ QUOTE ] The big reasons I won't vote for Obama are -Top 3 liberal voting record -0 experience in an executive government positions -Complete lack of understanding on national defense, and very closly related, immigration policy A big reason why I like McCain is he doesn't try to blow as much sunshine up people's back side as many politicians. He won my vote when he went to Michigan and told them they needed to re-train the workforce because some jobs weren't coming back. It wasn't popular, but admitting that there are big problems are the first step in solving them. McCain made many in his own party angry by not bowing to their avery whim, Obama and Clinton are the polar opposite. Obama likes to talk about "change", but there are a couple of problems A-talk is cheap, and B-his record tells a different story. I won't be voting against Obama or Clinton because of their names, it's because I want to have a country 20-30 years from now, and with 1 or both of them running the show, I'm not convinced I will. Oh, and if anyone has any problem with me comenting on the name, BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA, please make a fist, place it at face level, insert your thumb into your mouth, and be happy. That's as close to me apologizing for that as you are going to here.
  17. [ QUOTE ] Actually, the had a paragraph write up of the game on the 3rd page of the sports page... Its called the Bluefield Daily Telegraph yet they didnt have any write ups of the game that featured 2 top 5 teams in AA basketball??? Give me a break... [/ QUOTE ] And you're surprised because???
  18. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Good luck to him, he's a great player. [/ QUOTE ] also Josh Colbertson who had been playing for UC... hope i spelled that right. they are the #1 and #2 backs in WV rushing history [/ QUOTE ] Not as familiar with Culbertson, he played on a better team than Roberts, but the fact he ran for that much yardage on a team that throws 25-40 times a game is very impressive. I was very impressed with Roberts, he had grat numbers against James Monroe and Bluefield, and that was with a very average team, he also ran out of the same system as WVU. I wish both of them the best.
  19. [ QUOTE ] Well Stewart failed to win it. [/ QUOTE ] Amen to that!
  20. He and Jason Taylor should've both went somewhere else years ago. The Miami ship has been sinking for quite some time now. Parcells has his work cut out for him
  21. My understanding is that the school board meets again on Tuesday, Feb 19. Don't know if this will be high on the agenda, but it'll be something to keep an eye on next week.
  22. They're now saying 5 people dead. This is another result of the moral decay of our country and of our families.
  23. [/ QUOTE ] I’m not saying that I will voting for the guy or that I agree with his views, but I think even considering not voting for a guy based on what his name sounds like is pretty ignorant and may even be considered bigoted. [/ QUOTE ] You should note the other reasons I listed for not voting for him. Trust me, his name has nothing to do with why I won't vote for him. And saying that could be considered bigoted? 24. [ QUOTE ] HUCKABEE!!! and i hope obama wins the democratic primary because all the redneck democrats in the south are gonna be to racist to vote for a black man and they will transfer there vote to a republican or an independent!! GO NADER! haha anything but a female democrat! [/ QUOTE ] In all honesty, Obama will likely be a more formideable opponent for McCain that Hillary. Hillary will unite the Republicans behind McCain quickly, I do think thow, that once they figure out Obama's pretty much the same liberal, it will have the same effect. I do think it's funny about the "redneck" democrats, I've heard ALOT of older democrats saying that they will not vote for Obama if he's nominated, and could even vote for McCain. Traditionally, older voters make up the majority, and if they sit out or crossover, it could be the one downfall of Obama in November. McCain's big strength is that he's not by any stretch of the imagination, a friend of the Bush administration, that relieves him of some of the unpopularity that the president has right now. Once his record is compared to Clinton and Obama, conservatives and centrists will have a harder time voting a democrat into office this year.
