I realize I'm responding to an old post but hopefully you'll se it. An article in the Richlands News Press mentioned a recomendation to close Tazewell, Graham and Richlands High Schools in the next 10-15 years, and build two new ones. One would serve the east and one the west. I can see it happening. People have left the area in droves, and even the ones who have stayed just don't have as many kids as when these schools were built. I hate to see the great rivalries killed but I think we would end up with two strong programs.

I was born in Richlands and lived there till age 17 when I moved to Richmond. I spent 13 years in Richmond and loved it, but I did get tired of the pace and especially the crime. I came back to Richlands in five years ago. It took a little while to get re-acclimated but now I wouldn't leave here for anything.

Another BCS mess. While all three teams can make a case as to why they should be in the title game, it's obvious that OU should be the one left out. Not only did they fail to win the Big-12 championship, they lost the game by four td's. I have mostly been against a playoff system like the one used in 1-AA, but now I think something has to be done. Even a playoff with the top four BCS teams would be better than what we have.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not real sure about Carroll's secondary. We only threw 15 passes against them (6-15-113). Abingdon was 9-19-115 yards against Richlands. Also, They don't just run between the tackles. They love to get it outside as well. And they have the speed to turn the corner.

Don't expect CC to pass much PD. Against us they were 2-4 for -4 yards. MV's best bet is try and make them pass by stopping the run with 8-9 in the box. But don't over pursue, because they love to use misdirection. They will pound the ball to one side several plays in a row then run a counter the other way.

[/ QUOTE ] I think they match up pretty well speed wise though Magna Vista is bigger. Richlands defense did pretty well against MV for the most part but we had a lot of trouble against Carroll's misdirection running. MV will have to handle that to win the game but I think they can.

Both are very good. Both run the same style offense. Both kept the Richlands offense contained. MV and CC will both be trying to control the line of scrimage, and I expect the seconds to tick fast since niether team passes much. I predict Magna Vista to win a close one at "the hole".

Several others from Richlands were as well (most of the RHS coaches were there). I saw several people from Tazewell too. I think a lot of people wanted to see the "SWD Championship" and see Bradshaw.

Richlands travels very well. We outnumbered the home crowd at several games. Even took several hundred to Magna Vista. As far as fans visiting Richlands...Grundy and Graham both brought a bunch. Good turnout by Abingdon as well. Gate City probably brought the fewest but they were the farthest away.

Go see Bradshaw. I saw him twice this year and he's the real thing.

It was bad here in Richlands. I had 19 inches of water in my basement but i'm sure others had it much worse. Our neighborhood was evacuated, not so much because of the water, but a railroad tanker closer to the river than me, containing 15,000 lbs of propane was in danger of tipping over and potentialy exploding. Fortunately that didn't happen and we were able to return home this morning. Hope everyone here got thru it ok.

How does he keep doing that? Give him even the smallest hole and he'll make a good defense look silly. That second clip was awesome.

I never said the refs cost us the game. I never said MV didn't have penalties. I'm just saying the refs did a terrible job. I don't blame any MV points on the refs. I don't blame any points Richlands didn't get on the refs. I think Magna Vista wins the game anyway but it would have been nice to play the game without the bad/missed calls.

If #70 was going "on the snap" the rest of the line was going a second after the snap.

some of us felt the refs were making some "makeup" calls to cover for mistakes. And I don't think Richlands lost because of the refs. We lost because Magna Vista is a good team, AND because we were outcoached. I think your 2nd and 3rd TD's were aided by us going into "panic mode" in the 3rd quarter only down by 7. Back to the refs. You said you saw the tape. Look at the left tackle #70...he got an early jump on just about every play but wasn't called until I got the refs attention with my big mouth. Of course that also goes back to our coaching because It should have been Mance's big mouth that got their attention.

I think Carroll County can beat Magna Vista. They are a good team but I think you match up well. Just keep an eye on the officals.

This was a whale of a football game. Both teams played well. Richlands had a real chance in the fourth quarter (and no, I don't think MV slacked off), but as usual our inability to manage the fourth quarter of a BIG GAME cost us. The defense played very well and MV's second touchdown can't be blamed entirely on them. Magna Vista had a very short field to work with. Now, I'm not one to complain about officiating. But those guy's should be ashamed of themselves. the left tackle for Magna Vista was getting an early jump on every play and it wasn't being called. Finally in the fourth quarter I yelled to the refs at the top of my lungs to watch him. "Watch the him ref" "he's jumping every play". I know they heard me because they flagged him for it on the very next play. He stopped jumping for a little while after that but was soon back at it. Earlier in the game our SE was ejected for a fight started by the other guy. Add a TD catch that was ruled incomplete, and a blatant pass interference that wasn't called, and the refs really hosed Richlands. Magna Vista might have won the game anyway but it would be nice to play on even terms. Anyway, congratulations to Magna Vista. Good luck against Carroll County.
