Idiot, huh. I played 4 years of high school ball against your great Grundy teams and we never lost to them. No, not a VHS. You figure it out since you are so smart. Now, I have a son playing for VHS and it pisses me off when people bad mouth these kids teams, especially people who probably don't have kids playing sports, so therefore they don't have a clue what parents with kids playing sports are feeling. I tend to agree with what CAVDAD said on an earlier post about you. But, I will digress and be the better person here and let you call me an idiot or whatever else you would like to call me. Lance, an off week gives you time to heal and prepare. It is usually considered an advantage...unless you're from Grundy and lookin' for an excuse for why we played Richlands better than you guys did. I've got an Idea! Why don't we ask the Richlands people on here who have played us both to compare the two teams! Please help us out here Richlands fans/players/anybody who saw the two games. Nice post BEARCAT

My point is that people, including you, get on here and bad mouth and talk sh** about other teams and how not to "get excited" about playing certain teams. Well, I no for a fact that the kids from VHS have bust their butts this year and yes things have not always gone their way in games, but they have not quit giving 110% each and every game. So, if you can't get excited about playing VHS in a couple of weeks, stay home and that way you won't have anything to complain about such as the refs and/or how terrible some other schools team is other than the great Grundy team this year. And by the way, ask any Richlands fan or player about not "getting excited" to play VHS. And I beleive we plyed Richlands a hell of alot closer than Grundy. Find some other team to bad mouth and leave VHS alone.

Virginia High will scrimmage Lebanon Saturday, August 14 at Lebanon, I think starting at 10:00am. The bearcats, with new coach Terry Smith, have approximately 60 kids out and a renewed excitement. I hope coach Smith turns that program around and gets them back to their winning ways. At least more kids have come out this year.

There is only one of the assistants that applied for the head job and he only got an interview out of courtesy. I am sure he would take the position though if offered now. alot of talent just sitting around that needs to be in the weight room. I know all of the assistant coaches do not coach another sport but none of them will take the initiative to open the weight room. Then they sit back and wonder why they cannot win.

The school board was ready to announce the new head coach at the next scheduled board meeting; however, the coach that was picked from Franklin County I had heard called Wednesday night at 10:00pm and decided not to take the position. Now, they are back to scrambling to fill the position. This was a done deal until the last minute he decided to change his mind. Need to get a coach in place real soon, if not sooner. Should have had one in place already. If anyone else knows of any new developments, please post.

Coach Carlock is no longer in the running for the head football job at VHS. They had a second round of interviews and have narrowed it down to two candidates. Word has it that both are exceptional applicants but time will tell. Whoever gets it, with the 2.0 grade scale, drug policy, and the attitude of Bristol kids, they will have their hands full. Hope all programs at VHS get turned around. Can't wait until basketball season for Coach Mitchell's sophomore year as coach at VHS. Interesting to see if he can turn it around. Alot of turnaround in the coaching ranks at VHS. Something wrong somewhere.

It depends on how many of these kids go out. Alot of the kids have stated that they are not going to play because of the new drug policy that has been passed by the school board to test athletes at VHS. I foresee alot of kids transferring to Battle and other schools just to be able to play sports. Along with the new drug policy and 2.0 GPA alot of kids will leave and play elsewhere.

I think it was a disgrace to Virginia High basketball and atheletics in general that Brad McClanahan was left off of the Highlands District team. Word has it that coach Mitchell did not even nominate him on his ballot. The only one he nominated was Slagle. Correct me if I am wrong but was not the McClanahan kid the leading scorer on the team, most consistent and best all around player for VHS this season....when the "great" coach saw fit to play him. Damn, I believe Virginia High coaches could take the talent on Oak Hills team and turn them into a loser. No wonder the halls at VHS are filled with talented players who decide not to play because of all of the "political bs" that goes on at that school and no wonder students are transferring out of there like rats on a sinking ship. Someone better wake up....real fast. You go from a Freshman class of 220 students to 109 by the time that freshman class are Juniors something is wrong. WAKE UP ROSIE AND SMELL THE COFFEE BEFORE IT IS TO LATE.

I tend to agree that it is probably coaching. As bad as I hate to say it, even when coach Lee was in charge, he had some concept of what was going on. Now, they just run around in circles until someone gets open. Then if you are open after the first pass you cannot shoot because you have to pass the ball. Feed the post. Our post people can not catch the ball or do anything with it when they get it. When Mitchell was first hired everyone was told that they would play an up tempo game. I haven't seen it. That would suit the makeup of this team better than what we are trying to do now.. which I have yet to figure out what that is. It would be nice to gave gotten a coach that could have got the most out of these kids and the kids enjoyed playing for.

Last night Vhs basketball lost AGAIN. This time to Abingdon by 25 after being tied at halftime. I don't understand what is wrong with this program. Could it be coaching? How can the McClanahan kid go for 25 against Graham, who by the way be Abingdon twice, and only score 2 against Abingdon? Maybe because the coach barely played him against Abingdon. Don't understand...frustrated...need answers. Is it time for a change already in the coaching ranks for Vhs basketball. By the way CONGRATS to Vhs girls for winning district. At least we have one good coach in basketball.

Virginia Highs basketball game has been postponed tonight at Graham due to the weather. No makeup date has been set. VHS is letting out of school early due to the weather and according to the Superintendant, no after school activities can be held.

I think in the first two ballgames that they played as a team and that is why they won. After that, they have been playing selfish and wanting the headlines for themselves. They had a kid, the McClanahan boy, that made the all tournament team for the Pepsi tournament, and he has been getting alot of write ups in the paper. He does not care how many points he scores as long as they win. But several kids on they team have stated that they will not throw him the ball anymore and they have been throwing up junk just so that they can get their points and get there names in the paper. Consequently, they have lost and unfortunately they do not care. The McClanahan boy was averaging 14 points per game, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, and did not even start until the coach finally woke up after the 4th game. Now tell me, someone that is helping your team that much, do you exclude him from your offense or create opportunities for him? Coach Mitchell needs to wake up or he will not be there long. Several players are already disgusted and ready to quit. Players at Virginia High do not want to win. All they care about is self gratitude. Just look at the football team. Enough said.
