  1. Our men can't get it done in what? Baseball: swept the Hokies 3-0 last season. Basketball: 6-2 over the last eight contests against the Hokies Men's soccer: 32-4-1 over the Hokies Keep digging the hole deeper, Hokie.
  2. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] if a 15-year-old Charlottesville girl had crashed a party, she would've been told in no uncertain terms to get out. In the end, it's just not in the culture at Virginia to have this happen. Private party, frat party, any party. [/ QUOTE ] Ride that high-horse Hoo-boy...no arrogance at all in that statement...I'd almost guarantee 15-year-olds have attended college frat parties in C-ville at one time or another...just because you think you're better than everyone else doesn't mean you are... [/ QUOTE ] What in the world do you mean by that statement? Where's the arrogance? Of course, there is none. I was simply stating an observation of mine about the party culture at Virginia. There's a palpable tension between the Charlottesville residents and members of the college; the residents feel like the students encroach on their lives, and the college students in general feel like the residents attempt to exert unneccessary authority over them. If a Charlottesville resident, or "townie", attempted to crash a college party, he/she would be told to leave, unless invited by a student. Just like a university student would be turned away from a resident party, given the circumstances. Several reasons, one of which is to prevent a big incident like the one little Vick is in now. Definitely no arrogance intended in this post. To another point, I'm sick of this babble. First, you have never met me in person, so how can you even in the least substantiate your bogus claims? I know several people on this board, and they would all refute your slander, that I'm better than everyone else. Complete ignorance. Your blind hatred of the University of Virginia and its supporters has made you look positively moronic, in this post and over the time I've started posting here again. You're far too smart (or so I thought) than to make such unsubstantiated, asinine statements like that. You act like such a big, bad boy behind that computer, when in reality, you're doing nothing but flaming like a hormonally-imbalanced teenager. You're 25 years too old for that crap. I'm finished with this thread; I've said all I need to.
  3. I'm sure the hardcore Duke and Carolina fans would disagree... But in the end, I'll make that trade. Gives me someone to cheer for between January and August. Heck, even as I type this, the Virginia-Virginia Tech women's basketball game went final. 70-57 in favor of Ryan's ladies. Life is pretty darn sweet.
  4. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I know that casual sexual relations are a part of college life. Duh. I didn't live in a vacuum for the last four years. I doubt it happens often at Virginia Tech, but 15-year-old girls certainly don't go to on-campus parties at Virginia. First, too easy to spot, if you talk to them at all. Second, student IDs are required, so that won't work well unless someone's borrowed/stole one; then, again, it's very easy to spot someone who's 16-or-younger by talking to them. If in fact Vick the Younger did that, he deserves every second of time he gets. Absolutely pathetic. [/ QUOTE ] You mean they are allowed to have "on-campus" parties at UVA??? WOW!!! I thought it was known as "the grounds". And I'm sure, IDs aren't required for all parties...maybe frat parties but other off-campus parties at someone's house/condo/apartment...NO. And if you remember the details of the MVII case, the allegations supposedly occurred at someone's "private home" where IDs weren't required. And no, I'm not condoning what he did...I just arguing the "legalities" that you've thrown out about it "not happening at UVA". [/ QUOTE ] What I said did apply primarily to frat parties, so it's valid to question off-"grounds" affairs. Thanks for that correction, too. You're exactly right: the Vick Redux incident was off-campus, and here's my analysis for that. I certainly know about the party culture at Virginia, and the off-grounds parties almost exclusively include groups getting together to celebrate: singing groups, service groups, bus drivers, you name it. Outsiders of said groups don't crash parties: they're either brought by members of the partying group, or they don't come. I recall one incident my first year when a football player tried to crash on of those parties. This player, not a starter, attempted to gain access to an off-ground event, and wouldn't leave when he was told to do so. In the end, this football player was stabbed by one of the party-goers, an awful thing. Moral of the story: don't go where you're not invited. Of course, this is a different matter: a football player being crashing an off-campus party compared to a 15-year-old girl crashing said party. Having been in a few groups who've had private parties, I guarantee you, if a 15-year-old Charlottesville girl had crashed a party, she would've been told in no uncertain terms to get out. In the end, it's just not in the culture at Virginia to have this happen. Private party, frat party, any party.
  5. You've focused on the wrong part of the paragraph. The phrase "who was 17 when she filed the suit" is the subtle dig. 17 is the legal age for consent in the state of Virginia. By adding that phrase right after the 'Marcus won't acknowledge knowing the woman' phrase, it subconciously makes the reader both discredit the plaintiff and support Marcus; this journalistic ploy from this Hampton Roads paper doesn't surprise me. Apparently, it was so "subtle" that two straight posters missed it. But that's the goal. I know that casual sexual relations are a part of college life. Duh. I didn't live in a vacuum for the last four years. I doubt it happens often at Virginia Tech, but 15-year-old girls certainly don't go to on-campus parties at Virginia. 6. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] With one of those coming on November 22nd, 2008. [/ QUOTE ] Negative, Ghostrider...the Commonwealth Cup will remain in Blacksburg until the Chessmaster is relieved of his duties... [/ QUOTE ] Negative, "Runaway Beer Truck". Groh's here until 2011, sadly, but 8 straight losses just won't happen. Virginia, regardless of coach, almost definitely will not win the majority of the contests until Beamer/Foster leaves and Virginia Tech slips right back into the dredges of college football from whence it came. But, next year is the best chance for a Virginia win since 2003, given that the Hokies lose almost the entire starting defense. And if they beat the Hokies in Lane, the amount of crow to digest will be far, far sweeter than the four straight losses I've had to endure. In the end, I'm happy that Virginia's not a one-trick pony: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia-Virginia_Tech_rivalry
  7. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] hopefully Stinespring will pick up some slack this year [/ QUOTE ] Don't count on it...and the D won't be able to save his a$$ next year either... [/ QUOTE ] Exactly. It could turn out to be a 5-6 loss season with Stinespring handcuffing the offense and an inexperienced defense. [/ QUOTE ] That's what everyone in Charlottesville hopes happens. With one of those coming on November 22nd, 2008. But I digress. In all likelihood, the whole 10-win season streak will be snapped. However, the core of the offense returns in Glennon, Taylor, and Ore: with four linemen returning, that is likely enough to offset a relatively inexperienced defense...for the most part. Wide receiver play will be key, since the top 4 wide receivers on the depth chart (correct me if I'm wrong) are leaving. Little tidbit on the subject here: http://www.realfootball365.com/college/articles/2008/01/reloading_virginia_tech_must_r.html That is, if Stinespring doesn't sabotage it. I'd still trade Stinespring for Groh the Younger, in the end. My prediction: 8-4. [/ QUOTE ] I think we have seen the last run from Ore at Tech...I hope I'm wrong...but I think he's gone. [/ QUOTE ] Virginia Tech will be hurting if Ore decides to leave. What good is a solid offensive line in a smashmouth scheme with no powerful runner to take advantage of it? The second back on the depth chart is Kenny Lewis, with just 57 rushes for 205 yards last season. 105 yards of that was against William and Mary and Ohio, not exactly premium competition. If Ore does decide to leave, Virginia Tech might barely break .500. Yes, I firmly believe that.

  9. On the bright side, Virginia Tech plays Maryland again! With games left against a staggeringly-bad Georgia Tech team, and point-guard-less North Carolina State team, a rematch with Wake Forest, and a possible win at home against Boston College, 16-14 might not be impossible by the time the ACC tournament rolls around, which would lock up a postseason bid of some sort. That would be fantastic for the Hokies. That is, if everything falls just right...
  10. [ QUOTE ] Duke and Uva Play 2moro down in cameron! if sean singletary can score at least 25 pts. i think uva could have a chance otherwise no chance [/ QUOTE ] That's pretty much on the mark, and as a Virginia fan, I'll freely admit that. On the offensive end, Singletary needs a 25-6-8 night in order for Virginia to have a chance to pull out the upset. Mamadi Diane needs to take some of that load off Singletary from the 2/3 spot; he has the range to do it, but he's far more inconsistent than Virginia fans had hoped this season, though he is a staggering 50.9% from three-point range. Adrian Joseph has come on strong, averaging 12.6 points (2nd-team) and 7.7 rebounds (team best) per game; a big night from him is crucial, and if he gets the stroke going from the 3 and/or establishes an inside presence from the 4, this could help Virginia's bid for an upset. Calvin Baker has been welcome help off the bench, and Mike Scott has done well inside, with 6.2 boards per game. On the defensive end, I sure hope Dave Leitao lit a fire under their behinds after that shameful performance against Xavier. No heart, no fire on the court that night. Good, solid defensive play is Leitao's cup-of-tea, and I expect better at Cameron. Frankly, if Virginia can hold Duke to 65-70, an upset might be more likely. If Duke goes much over 70, Virginia doesn't stand a chance. I'm hopeful, but I certainly don't expect to see the team walk away with the win.
  11. Haha, we get it! Ore's not on trial. Sheesh! Regardless, good to see that he's keeping his nose clean. However, here's a suit that may pique interest a little bit more. Notice the subtle, pathetic dig from this tidewater-area paper in the fourth paragraph, trying to discredit the plaintiff. Juicy stuff from some bad Hokie seeds, I tell you: http://www.dailypress.com/news/local/dp-news_vickdepo_0112jan12,0,7992109.story
  12. I didn't mean to imply that you were discrediting Asheville. I spent about 20 minutes after originally typing my post revising it to take that sentiment out. Certainly not my intent, and I apologize for that. It just seemed to me that you thought North Carolina should have steamrolled Asheville, and that anything less constituted an off-night. That's definitely not the case. That's the only reason I upheld Asheville. Other than that, we're cool. Best of luck to the Tarheels, except the night they visit John Paul Jones arena!
  13. North Carolina having an "off night" is questionable. Defense, perhaps: Asheville shot 53% from the field. Offensively, I don't think so. You could make the case for individual players, like Thompson (3-14 FG) and Ginyard only being 1-4 from the line. Hansbrough had 23, Ellington had 19, and Lawson had 17. 93 points from the Tar Heels is hardly an "off night". Beats their season average, am I right? Personally, I think what happened was that the Tar Heels ran into an Asheville team that was better than anticipated. Yes, I agree that the game was never in doubt; from the scoring track provided by ESPN, it appeared that North Carolina got out to a lead and just kept Asheville at bay. However, senior Bryan Smithson lit the Heels up for 25 points on 67% shooting; he was totally on his game. Garland had 14, James had 11, and George had 14 off the bench on top of a game high 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. This team isn't a bunch of complete stiffs. Don't be surprised if Asheville gives Winthrop all they can handle when the Big South tourney comes around. If there is an upset in the making, that would be it. North Carolina is a superior, and perhaps even a national-title-worthy, team. No doubt about that. However, give Asheville some credit, too.
  14. Fair enough, but for the whole link, try: George has his fun between the :55 and 1:14 marks. Just like swatting flies! And, to be fair, North Carolina didn't kill them, either...
  15. I'd set the line at Carolina -4.5, given that everyone on the Tar Heels is healthy. I can't wait to watch this game: Carolina and Duke are heads and shoulders above everyone in the ACC. Almost everyone, except Kenny George from North Carolina-Asheville. The Tarheels had some fun with that!
  16. We all know who Skip Bayless is, right? That's the goal, my friends: it doesn't matter if your content's good. ESPN just wants him to loosely adhere to sports and bring in the ratings. Like you all, I agree with roughly 15% of what comes out of his mouth. But like you all, I tune in to see Jemele Hill, the Two Stus, or Jalen Rose make a mockery of him. The ESPN heads smile when the ratings come out. The world spins 'round.
  17. [ QUOTE ] Most famous - Bruce Smith Most infamous - Mike Vick [/ QUOTE ] I like that! But I believe the infamous trumps the famous by a decent margin.
  18. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=280030259 Hey it's gotta suck to have your most famous player to be in jail in the state that just stuck it to the chokies in Blacksburg. Also that was their 1st BCS win. That has got to feel great. I could talk about the idotic tech fans around here.......but you know.....I'm happy beating Oklahoma.....winning a BCS game.....again. I'll leave all that whining to you ladies who need something to cry about. [/ QUOTE ] Bruce Smith is VT's most famous player... [/ QUOTE ] Before the incident, I might agree with the two posts before me. Very debatable, even if you adhere rigidly to the definition of "player". Now, if you're not, of course that statement is NOT true. I haven't seen Bruce Smith's face plastered all over NBC/ABC/CBS/CNN/etc. lately. Yes, Bruce Smith is the NFL's all-time sack leader (though he had to play on fumes for a few years to break the late, great Reggie White's mark), but you go up to a random person, ask them who Mike Vick is, and your response will likely be: "The dogfighter? Man, he's pathetic". You won't get the same level of recognition for Bruce Smith, especially among women (more than half the population, I might add). Guaranteed. Not only is it almost irrefutable that Mike Vick is the most famous alumnus of Frank Beamer's football academy, but it is very likely (with all his media exposure) that Vick is the most famous person to have attended Virginia Tech. That's debatable, but the first is a no-brainer.
  19. He probably realized that it would be absolutely moronic to leave a warm climate, a fantastic recruiting base, and a team that is a lock for 9 wins minimum and 10 most every year for a chance to coach a professional team that is a train wreck at a place where his "rah-rah" routine would definitely not work. This whole thing failed the common-sense test: why take a crappy job ill-suited to your coaching style when you're basically this generation's Bear Bryant?
  20. [ QUOTE ] The first part of the post was meant to be stupid since some fool called VT fans "classless" in this post. There was nothing classless about any of the posts. I just wanted to give him what he wanted. I don't have any pent-up hatred for UVA...I wear my emotions about them on my sleeve. I let the world know what a bunch of arrogant SOBs UVA fans are...but MOST of people already know that. And, if you don't believe their is any hatred for VT from the UVA crowd, just read LeSabre.com...plenty of snooty, hatred there. As for Jacksonville, ANYTHING is "far, far better" than Boise...I guess its all a matter of where your are accustomed to going...its definitely a step down from New Orleans, Miami, and even the ATL... [/ QUOTE ] The first part of your post stereotyped Virginia fans, while you attempted to defend the stereotype given to Virginia Tech fans. Basically, you did the exact same thing that you blast Virginia fans for. Not only is that simple hypocrisy, but it's fairly classless. Second, you lump all Virginia fans into the "arrogant SOB" category. That's like me saying that all Virginia Tech fans are toothless hicks. Of course, I would NEVER say that for two reasons: I, with all my heart, don't believe such a statement; and, it's impossible to substantiate! You believe that TheSabre is an accurate sampling of Virginia fans, when it's truly not. Most of the posters do not take part in Virginia Tech bashing. Those people who do are often the most near-sighted fans who have nothing better to do than blast Virginia Tech at every available opportunity. Every fanbase has that. I'm dealing with it right now... Man, if anything's apparent, look at what Virginia put on in Scott Stadium for you all this year. When I go to Lane next year to support my team, we'll see if any of that "Virginia Pride" is reciprocated. We all know it won't. And we're the arrogant SOBs... I wasn't speaking about Jacksonville being better than where the team was "accustomed to going". I was speaking in terms of the city itself: I had a bad dinner experience, and I sprained my ankle, but I enjoyed my time there very much. If you want to talk about where Virginia is "accustomed to going" for bowl games, we'll do that. Virginia has been to Boise just twice, Charlotte just twice, but has also been to the Gator Bowl twice, the Sugar Bowl once, and the Peach Bowl three times. That's a fairly wide variety of places, don't you think? Even Virginia goes to the places the Hokies are "accustomed to going". Kind of shoots that statement down before it even gets off the ground. Give me a Florida bowl game on New Year's Day, and I'll be pleased. Even if the loss was heartbreaking. At least I'm not alone today in bemoaning a heartbreaking loss.
  21. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] VT didnt execute...Thats what cost them.. [/ QUOTE ] Don't agree totally. The quarterbacks didn't execute, that's for sure. Glennon's completion percentage was under 50%, and Taylor completed as many passes to the Jawhawks as to the Hokies, with one more touchdown to the Jawhawks. I'll give you that. However, Tech's defense held Kansas to 24 points, which should've been enough to win the football game. Ore averaged right at 5 yards a carry and had an exemplary game (23-119-1, in just three quarters of work). Frankly, I believe there were two differences. One, Kansas hit Virginia Tech square in the mouth and barely flinched when Virginia Tech did the same. Second, awful offensive game-planning. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with almost all of that UVAObserver, except for the fact that Virginia Tech backed down after being punched in the mouth. With the exception of the interceptions and blocked field goal, there wasn't really any actual discrepancy of Virginia Tech getting hit in the mouth. VT's mistakes were mostly caused by themselves and the blame lies squarely on their shoulders. I will most certainly agree to disagree on this topic. Virginia Tech had Kansas exactly where they wanted them at the beginning of the 2nd half when their defense came out firing, along with the punt return for a touchdown. All they had to do was finish the trifecta and get their offense to click. In my opinion, Stinespring did not put his offense in the best position to win the game. [/ QUOTE ] Never said Virginia Tech backed down. Beamer teams seldom do that, except in Baton Rouge, LA. Kansas socked Virginia Tech, Virginia Tech returned the punch, and Kansas (though shaken) didn't drop. I could've been clearer, I admit.
  22. [ QUOTE ] VT didnt execute...Thats what cost them.. [/ QUOTE ] Don't agree totally. The quarterbacks didn't execute, that's for sure. 23. [ QUOTE ] Big East 3 straight BCS bowl wins: 06: against Georgia (SEC) 07: against Wake Forrest (ACC) 08: against Oklahoma (BIG XII) We've beaten all the best conferences..... Big east! Big East! Big East! Big East! Big East! [/ QUOTE ] Forgot the Pac-10 and Big 10. Likewise, the doesn't mean the conference is great. It means that one team in a given conference is great. Regardless, congratulations to West Virginia on a great season. The Mountaineers did not play up to their potential at all times (Pittsburgh, South Florida), but did have a superior level of talent, solid coaching, and one heckuva chip on their shoulders. Well done, and frankly, I'd like to see this streak continue.
  24. [ QUOTE ] So we all jump on this guys bandwagon because he got his team ready for one game? We will see how he does when he has to get his team ready for a 12 game season. [/ QUOTE ] Bingo. Boy, this was a premature hire if I ever did see one. West Virginia had a huge chip on their shoulder, and played to their potential, which strangely enough does not include Steve Slaton. I'd take it as a sign that him going to the NFL may not hurt West Virginia as much as many of the fans may believe. However, the hiring may be the right one. Frankly, Terry Bowden, Bud Foster, and Butch Jones weren't the right fit for the job. Stewart definitely has knowledge of the system, and that is quite beneficial with the players in place for that offensive scheme. Frankly, if I were West Virginia's athletic director, I would have waited to evaluated Stewart more in-depth before hiring him, but hiring Stewart may pay dividends down the road. Give him a chance. The alternatives were no better.
  25. [ QUOTE ] ever since the bowl games were announced all I had heard from VT fans is of how they were gonna roll over Kansas. How they wished they would have gotten a better opponent because Kansas just wasnt worthy. Now I believe they wish for a different opponent but for other reasons. VT got straight outplayed just like I thought they would in my prediction in the bowl pick 'em. I cant wait to see my Tech fan buddies sometime tomorrow and just ask them how they handled watching VT blowout Kansas tonight. [/ QUOTE ] I remember well the few Virginia Tech fans that thought that Virginia Tech would "win big" and "roll over" the hapless Jayhawks. Oops. Subpar play from the quarterbacks tonight. Glennon and Taylor both had interceptions. notably Taylor's pick-6. Glennon looked especially shaky: staring down receivers for seconds at a time before releasing passes to them, which Kansas generally defended quite well. Stinespring did call a pitiful game tonight. The 11-carry drive from Ore late in the second quarter exposed the smaller Jayhawk defense as extremely vulnerable to the run. Ore routinely broke 5-6 yard runs, and with 2nd-and-4 situations, the offense definitely has the upper hand. Yet the Hokies continued to pass, pass, and pass more. Baffling. And I DEFINITELY know something about bad offensive coordinators... Regardless, I congratulate Virginia Tech on a nice season. Two ACC titles in 4 years definitely looks nice (which is as many as big brother has total), as well as the fourth-consecutive 10-win season, matched only by Southern California.
