Yes, in case you haven't heard, Bluefield is looking to start a wrestling team. Judge Frazier has approached the board about starting teams at all four high schools in Mercer County, and helping raise the funds to get the necessary items to start. Bluefield had a sign up sheet to see how many were interested, and there were 45 that signed up. I'm not sure that it will happen this year, with the season starting in approximately a month. I think this will be a great addition to BHS Athletics.

Graham will have a good team this year... With Chase Stasheen, Ben Gross, Austin Bokish, Charlie Holbrook, and Casey Barerras all returning, they will have a good year. With the new regional alignment, having Grundy, CBurg, BBurg, Abingdon, Marion, and other strong teams....it will be tough to win in the regional tournament...

Tech ends up with 2 all americans! David Hoffman(141) placed 8th, and Mike Faust(285) placed 5th. Virginia native Brian Stith (Arizona State) was in the finals, and ended up placing 2nd. WVU had one all american.

ogle had a good tournament. He placed 4th.

The Region IV Wrestling Tournament will be held this weekend at Abingdon High School. Wrestling begins at 4pm on Friday and starts at 11 am on Saturday. Top 4 individuals in each weight class qualify for the State Tournament in Salem on March 3 & 4. Wrestling Teams in Region IV In ( ) are the number of wrestlers that will represent that team: Highlands District: Abingdon (13), Marion (12), Virginia High (11), and Lee High (14) Southwest District: Grundy (14), Graham (13), Richlands (12), Carroll County (10), and Tazewell (5) Piedmont District: Martinsville (12), Patrick County (12), Magna Vista (12), Bassett (11), and Tunstall (8) Should be a really good tournament!

Some weight classes are pretty tight! 130-Hankins and Wilson, 140-Barreras and Landis, 160-Owens, Lamb, and Cook, 171-Owens,McDaniel,Williams,Short(all four tough), 189-Lee,Hubbard,Strothers 215-Stiltner and Barreras, 275-Stiltner,Martin and McGraw. It should be a good tourney!

I think they are the team to beat at the state tourney! They are very solid from 112 through 152, and have a very good 215 and really good 275. Coach Boyd, and Crockett have done an outstanding job with this squad, and I hope they win in all!
