  1. [ QUOTE ] true but how many people on here play on a golf team for there school? prolly not that many [/ QUOTE ] I know of at least two RHS alumni on this board who lettered in golf back in the day. One of them is yours truly. The other isn't.
  2. From the "My How Times Have Changed Department," we now focus on the fan base. Here is a group photo of members of the Krazy Korner (the 1980's predecessor organization to Rife's Raiders).... And here is a recent shot of Rife's Raiders in action...
  3. Still deviating a bit, here's a recent photo of former crackerjack Richlands News-Press correspondent Steve Frost....
  4. Catching up with former RHS hoops master Reggie Blevins....
  5. I've had great fun at the expense of others, so I feel compelled to share the following portrait of myself.... Olan Mills sure does great work.
  6. From the "Where are they now?" files, former Richlands hoops coach Lawrence Johnson....
  7. Candid shot of beloved Commissioner Johnny Altizer (left) and an unidentified VHSL staffer....
  8. Following up from earlier in the thread, an updated photo of Barry Yost....
  9. Donnie Belcher unwinding after an intense SWVA hoops contest....
  10. [ QUOTE ] We all remember former midget league coach Paris Parker: [/ QUOTE ] That one is begging for a caption.... "Listen, honey. You want to grab your jewels just like THIS when you box out. Got it? Are you sure? Are you positive?"
  11. And I find myself with nothing constructive to say. But at least I'm honest about it. How does my 100th post compare with some of the more prodigious actives here?
  12. [ QUOTE ] I don't see how it will be possible to impose a tax only on residents of certain counties. I think if that becomes law, there will be plenty of suits filed and it would likely be overturned. [/ QUOTE ] Without knowing exactly how enabling legislation for taxation works in WV, I tend to agree. This kind of thing would only fly as part of a referendum measure in VA. On the bright side, this idea of taxing people who are actually working makes our General Assembly's discussion of baggy pants seem a little less embarrassing by a degree or two.
  13. [ QUOTE ] Are you really this retarted?? Do you realize you prove it over and over that you know NOTHING about sports, you are scum, I despise you and I dont even know you, Do you understand that and what everyone else is saying?? You waste your time, your opinion doesnt mean anything to any of us, the only reason we reply to your idiotic posts, is we try to help you understand that your dumb to all sports, are you getting this tid dick??or is that too much for your peanut brain to process?? Lets hear a good reaction to this one!! [/ QUOTE ] Gee, gamecock. If you've got something to say, I wish you'd just come right out and say it.
  14. The late, great Greever Crouse.... (In all honesty, I feel kind of sacrilegious for posting this. Greever truly was a great guy.)
  15. Just for clarification, I thought it might be useful to add photos of some of the officials mentioned within this thread. Here's my contribution to get the ball rolling... -Sanders Henderson -Jeff Hurst
  16. [ QUOTE ] i really hope the blues bring back the trophy this year, i feel the Brad Strong Syndrom, (not beating Tazewell in a big game since him being there) is gone with the retirment of Big Daddy Lou [/ QUOTE ] I'm sure I could find it elsewhere here, but I'm too lazy to do so. Who's taking over for old Lucifer Peery in T-town this year?
  17. Batting 2 for 3 in the "that's just wrong" average today, OFISHE8.
  18. [ QUOTE ] Oh, does anyone know the ref, his first name is Terry, he is bald and has a fu man chu...? [/ QUOTE ] I don't know. That description sounds more than a little bit like Sanders Henderson. Then again, it could be Jeff Hurst. Haven't seen him in a while, but he'd be downright sporty with a fu.
  19. [ QUOTE ] Come on out there get some more names of BB or fb officials you think that or good bad or ugly. How about this blast from the past Richard Shrimp Buchanan [/ QUOTE ] Dan "the Man" Matthews. Sometimes good. Sometimes bad. No comment on his looks. Jerry Hagy. One of the good guys. Also one of the best groomed. Craig Barbrow. Without him, the whole of Smyth County would fold up and die. As for the gridiron.... Sam Cassidy. Excellent official, plays a mean guitar, and looks good in a Red Coat. Louis Callahan. Kept his refereee out of trouble on many a night. And quite possibly the best looking individual in the history of Caretta, WV. Yogi Price. Excellent official and responsible for every GOP election victory since Nixon. Mark Dunham. Beautiful human being all around.
  20. [ QUOTE ] They offered im pretty sure newayz, but he said better benifits and stuff at UVA so good luck to him. [/ QUOTE ] Pretty sure Tech did offer him. As a Hokie, I'm disappointed, but I think he made a good decision and I wish him all the best in C-ville.
  21. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Are we forgetting to include the infamous Charlie Warner on our list? Or the incoherent Carmon Bennett? [/ QUOTE ]I think Charlie was a great one in football. he got along with all FB coaches in SWVA. But if you could ask him he would tell you his favorite place to call would be Hurlety HS. for one of VA best coaches TOMMY GOOSE BLANKENSHIP! Just ask him [/ QUOTE ] Grundy was actually the site of a couple of his more memorable experiences. But yes, he enjoyed Hurley about as much as a reasonable human should. And I'm sure Goose is satisfied that he eventually straightened him out.
  22. [ QUOTE ] I would like to know what college games Young Hurst Called frat games at JMU or Flying Eagles Games at SVCC. And as for as ranking young Hurst I would put him up there with Bill Bunch Shane Scott and time out Tommy Ownes. What will young Hurst do when he can not ride Altizer's coat tails? [/ QUOTE ] Hey, those frat games are important. My unbeaten record as coach of my own fraternity squad still nets me free beverages at certain fine establishments in and around Blacksburg. As for the last statement, I thought that Wurst was really the power behind the throne, and that Altizer was really riding HIS coat tails. Those mortician types have powers beyond those of normal humans, you know. I'll bet Hurst is channeling Greever Crouse as we speak.
  23. [ QUOTE ] Are we forgetting to include the infamous Charlie Warner on our list? Or the incoherent Carmon Bennett? [/ QUOTE ] If we expand this discussion to football, then yes it would be a travesty to exclude Charlie Warner. And you'd have to throw in liberal mentions of Yogi Price and Buzz Warner, for that matter. Let's not be talking "jonk" about Bennett. 'Cause if you do, he's "gonna bust ya."
  24. [ QUOTE ] I agree Richlands Alum, Hurst has worked numerous State Tourneys and plenty of middle school, high school, and college level bball. His philosophy of "let 'em play" makes the game a lot more fun. [/ QUOTE ] And his level of personal hygiene is beyond reproach. I hear that Bud Gallimore taught him everything he knows. Including how to count to three.
