I would say the coach has his good reasons for starting Monday, and given that nobody wants to see the team win more than him,I'm cool with it. I'm happy with the course we are on, and can't wait for some Graham football. If the youth comes on quick, and folks adjust to new roles, then we can be very good. I'm going,,,,,,7 and 3.
Virginia High has some speed, but are they ready to stop being Virginia High? Richlands ventured outside the kingdom and it showed, but is there still a Richlands as we've come to know it? This is an interesting game. If Richlands struggles with Va High's speed, then look for Bluefield to break out a homecoming queen on them.
What a classic in Princeton. But more than anything, for the love of all that is good about football PULL THE 95.9 BROADCAST! I was rushing to find the end of the game and couldn't find Nelson. Save us Jim Nelson, you're our only hope. This Graham fan took as much of a beating in the last 2 minutes of this game, as I took all last week!
I expect to see more passing. They will have some solid players to contribute to the air attack. I wouldn't expect a fantastic long range attack, but some creativity in the short to mid range stuff will make them respectable. The running game will probably be about crushing you for 8 minute drives. The loss of Hatfield in the defensive backfield is, in my opinion, the toughest loss they have. However, the development of some very good freshmen is the wildcard in all of this.
I couldn't make it to that title game, but I remember just being dumbfounded. Graham went away from everything that worked all year long, and when the play calls were there, the execution wasn't even close. And that converted fake FG...everyone but Glynn Carlock knew that fake was coming. It couldn't help that Harrisonburg's coach (Sarver) was from Bluefield. It also couldn't help that the team was shamefully cocky about it; I was in school at that time, and the phrase "set a scoring record" was mentioned by more than a few. Just a perfect storm for defeat.
I had to pick a weekend to be off from work that year, so I chose the Liberty-Bedford game over the championship game. Everybody in the state knew that the Graham-Liberty game was the actual state title game, except for Harrisonburg. Not to call you out again, but wasn't it a fake punt, called by Sarver, who actually executed a similar fake punt against Graham years before?
That doesn't match what Ahmad did to that poor Liberty-Bedford schmoe on the opening kickoff of that state semifinal game in 2001. Can't beat that one for "tone setter".
That was incredible, best high school hit I've ever seen. But, are you sure it was the opening kickoff? I don't remember it that way.
Princeton and Bluefield, VA, as well as Mercer and Tazewell Counties, had better get on the stick quick with similar ordinances or face an influx of pit bulls. For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would want an animal that presents such a personal liability. Fire away.
I don't think you can throw the blanket on all of Southern WV and Southwest Virginia. I think the gap exists between Bluefield and everybody else. The Beavers are very good, and should be for awhile.
I look for Graham to work on rough spots tonight. Starters may stay in as long as it takes to make sure they are executing correctly. May even see the same play several times in a row if necessary.
Graham had a chance to fight Fort off, but just seemed to start slow out of the gates. Fort's line played very well and created space in the middle for a good running back. Interesting to note was Graham's raw speed advantage. Good game though. My impression was that it was played hard, cleanly, and was well officiated.
Richlands was a good team all the way around. Good size, good toughness, but the poster is correct in his assesments of Edwards, Leggett, Palmer, and most certainly, Johnson.
