  1. ahhhhhhhh the refreshing memories of a 28-0 rout at the hands of the golden wave brings back fond memories. let us take a trip back in the way back machine and recall that fateful day................ The mighty bulldogs, 7 and 0 at the time and currently ranked #1 in the state of Virginia, by the way did I mention that they were on a 21 game winning streak and were defending state champs! Nonetheless, the powers that be chose this juggernaut to be the HOMECOMING OPPONENT for the struggling 2 and 5 Golden Wave. The rest my friends is history........28 to 0 (goose egg, nada, zip, zilch, zero.) By the way how many years was it after that before TAzewell beat Grundy again. 10 or l1 years???? Also, another intersting fact, Tazewell went on to lose the next 2 regular season games and lost in the first round of the playoffs. How is that for gettin' set back? Back to Today........... My passion for Grundy football isn't quite what it used to be and I would dare talk any smack on this message board, no offense to the current or referenced tAzewell team(s) and I wish the best to both clubs this Friday night. Play hard and stay safe from injury. Memories like that stay with you forever. Later
  2. I will agree with you on that. All that I have heard is how Hurley hasn't played anyone, although some of the teams that they have played do not have a good record, look at it like this. The Rebels have dominated every opponent that they have played they have beaten these teams soundly and that proves that although some of their opponents might not have good records they are much better than the competition that they are playing. After all they have whipped everyone they have played and thats what good teams do when they play a weak opponent. I will add this however, I really do not consider some of their opponents to be all that weak for a division 1 schedule. Ervinton has improved leaps and bounds, so has Big Creek, and Castlewood is twice the team they were last year. Nuff said Good luck Friday night
  3. Don't get me wrong I am pullin' for the Rebels all of the way on this one, it sure is nice to see a Buchanan County team making some noise this season. But I see the Rebels running into the "war of attrition" mode on this one. I expect the game to be close for sometime maybe into the 3rd and for Haysi to pull away. Expect them to get some junk TD's in the 4th quarter to make the game look a lot worse than it was. However, if the Rebels can get their starters some much needed rest throughout the game, a play here and there, they could find thereselves in a dog fight at the end. They could pull it out. Good Luck YOU GOTTA STOP THE KICKOUT !
  4. Not trying to add to the banter .....but the game was a REGULAR SEASON game, it was during the holiday tournament at Twin Valley that Hurley upset Grundy.
  5. Nothing against Dale, he is a great guy and a good coach, but to say that he deserves the job because he wins with guys at the lower level who do not win at the varsity level isn't a good reason. Winning ball games at the j.v. and youth level does not guarantee success at the varsity level. It is a different game and the kids have 2 or 3 years of weight lifting under their belt or lack thereof. Usually kids who are able to dominate at the younger levels due to their physical, God given ability, will continue to do so if they work out, but in all to many cases they don't do that and it turns them into just an average player. Don't get me wrong, I am not putting Dale down, I am just saying that success at the younger level doesn't always mean that the success would be repeated at the varsity level. I do however believe that Dale would make his kids work out and hit the weights on the varsity level, as does the current staff at Grundy. Good luck and ...

  7. "SHAKES HEAD IN BEWILDERMENT!" Greater Beckley Christian gets first-ever gridiron victory By Randall Jett Register-Herald Sports Writer HINTON — They had to go to overtime, but the Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders finally earned their first-ever win in football. The second-year program downed Twin Valley, Va., 32-26, in a hot, humid contest that tested all the players’ endurance at Garten Stadium in Hinton Saturday. “The heat and the conditioning was a big factor,” Crusaders coach John O’Neal said. “I’m just really proud of the effort. The guys went through a lot in August to get in shape. We knew that we didn’t have very many players. We didn’t have very many subs, so we really focused hard on conditioning this year. It paid off for us at the end of the game and in the fourth quarter.” Greater Beckley (1-1) faired better in the heat, which was key as Twin Valley (1-2) lost both quarterback Jeremiah Lester and top runner Wyatt Justus to heat exhaustion at the end of the fourth quarter. Robert Rogers led the Crusaders, throwing for 258 yards and two scores and rushing for a third. Rogers picked the Panthers’ defense apart, hooking up with four different receivers. Aaron Williams was on the receiving end of the first pass, a 57-yarder with 9:39 remaining in the first half, while Emmanuel Bland hauled in a 59-yard toss from Rogers at the 6:40 mark in the third quarter. “It just goes to show that Robert has really improved his ability to throw the ball,” O’Neal said. “It also shows that we have a variety of guys that can catch the ball. But the biggest difference over last year is our line protected him. That’s as big a factor as anything as to why Robert is throwing the ball better. He’s got time to get passes off.” While the Panthers were able to move the ball against Greater Beckley, they squandered several scoring opportunities. Twin Valley racked up 243 yards on the ground and 131 through the air but was penalized 16 times for 106 yards and turned the ball over twice on interceptions by Justin Clemins and Rogers. “I’ve been doing this 30-some years and this is the worst that I’ve ever felt,” Panthers coach Charlie Vandyke said. “(This was) the worst game that I’ve ever seen a team of mine play. Not taking anything from (Greater Beckley). They played hard and they did what they were supposed to do to win and we did nothing. “We had the ballgame won before we got here. We won the game on the bus or maybe won it this past week on the practice field. They found out you have to play the game before it’s won.” Twin Valley sent the game into overtime with a 13-play drive that began on its own six-yard line. The Panthers chewed up eight minutes of the fourth quarter with that drive before Lester found paydirt from four yards out. After forcing the Crusaders into a three-and-out series, the Panthers had one last shot at winning the game in regulation. But Rogers plucked an errant Twin Valley pass out of the air as time expired to send the game to overtime. “We made a stop on that last drive,” O’Neal said. “The kids just dug down deep and realized that it came down to that one series. We had to stop them.” Twin Valley got the ball first in the extra period, but defensive end Dimitri Carter sacked back-up quarterback Hunter Simpson on fourth down. The Crusaders took just two plays to reach the end zone. Williams danced around for 14 yards on the first carry and then scampered around left end for the final six. Williams would finish with 46 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and 151 yards and one score receiving. “I’m very happy for our guys, but I’m trying not to react too strongly,” O’Neal said. “We want to be competitive every game and we don’t think this will be the only game that we’re going to win. This isn’t going to be the last time we’re going to win a game, but we’re really thrilled that we got one today.” Greater Beckley Christian travels to St. Marys Friday. NUFF SAID
  8. Its my job to worry!!! They did not want to set up a tape exchange and therefore we were left out in the cold. I like to have tendencies for down and distance, strong weak, formation etc. The better prepared the defense is the better our chances are, that is why I am worried. I don't like leaving anything to chance. Nuff said
  9. What do they run, their defense, key players etc. Thanks
  10. Looking for some info on St. Paul. What do they run on offense/defense any threats etc.
  11. The Panthers dropped a close one to Bland County this past Friday night 21 to 14. Bland County executed well and took care of the football which was the difference in the ball game. TV laid the ball on the ground 3 or 4 times and had one pass go through the hands of the receiver and into the hands of an alert Bland County safety. Too many turnovers, you cant win a game like that and turn the ball over. Bland County was big and their running game did damage, especially in the first quarter as the knifed through the TV defense. The second half saw TV switch up their defense and they pretty much contained Bland County. However, BC also contained TV in the second half. Not sure about the stats I would venture to say that BC didn't have any 100 yard rushers, but they did their running by committee. So the numbers were good all around for them as a team. TV had critical mistakes early in the game as a 60 yard TD pass was called back due to a linemen holding. The hold came after the catch, which is why it was so devastating. Give BC all of the credit, Coach Hart and company stuck to the game plan of grinding it out and winning ugly. They executed the offense the way it was intended, eat the clock, keep the opponents defense on the field and win in a low scoring affair. All told the BC defense held us in check and limited our passing game to a few completions. Could TV have won? yes we could've, but we didn't! By the way Jeremiah Lester did play the entire game, although his ankle was bothering him somewhat it WAS NOT a factor in the game. Give Bland Co. all of the credit, they won the ball game. All that is left for TV to do is go back to work and fix things before St. Paul rolls into town. Go Panthers!!!!!!!
  12. Got this straight from the HORSES MOUTH....Coach Rowe himself! 1. Grundy did scrimmage! 2. The team they scrimmaged used double slot shotgun set and ran the no-huddle! 3. Their opponent had an awesome QB 4. Grundy had a hard time defending against them I didn't bother to ask him anything about their offense or how they fared, but they DID SCRIMMAGE! Good luck to everybody this week and heading into game 1

  14. Things went well Monday at Twin Valley. The practice session saw 25 players suited up and ready to go. The roster should top out at 28. Two players are still out of town should be back by Wednesday I am told and one transfer should be suited up on Tuesday. Don't know much about the kid, except that he is 6'3" and about 240lbs his family is originally from here and apparently he played varsity ball last year somewhere in NC. Numbers are up and enthusiasim is high. This is without a doubt the best that TV has ever looked during the first of August. Only time will tell if the team can make some strides. Plenty of linemen all told 14, the rest are backs and receivers. Pretty good mix of talent with several returning starters. Defense will probably be the strong point of the team this year as it may take the offense some time to gel. Replacing Brandon Helton, Chance Hamro and Derek Keen will not be an easy task. Heard Honaker had 49 out the first day, what about everyone else in the BDD? Keep on Keepin' On
  15. Just in case any of you might be interested in participating in the 17 and under division this weekend at the TWIN VALLEY TOURNAMENT, you do not need to have a coach present to play. There already is a team from George Wythe who got together on their own and entered the tourney. Just thought that I would pass this on to you guys. If you are interested just EMAIL ME coachmoore@twinvalleypanthers.com
  16. In regard to Bostic being the best QB in the BDD, I have to make the following comment. I agree that he is far from having the best arm, I think Lester problem has the best arm but I am somewhat biased seeing that I coach him. But Bostic on the other hand reads the option as good as any high school kid that I have seen in this area, he understands the mesh and his eyes are always on the correct man. He reads the DT very well and when he pulls the ball out he reads the DE as good as anyone that I have seen. This is his most valuable asset in that it plays into his strentgh which is his speed and quickness. The young man truly understands the option and is very good at what he does. Earlier, in his career he liked to scramble to much but he has matured a great deal now that he is the starter. In my opinion, and that is all that it is....an opinion, he is the best mobile QB in the BDD an I will add that he reads and runs the option as well as any that I have seen, he is a natural when he is allowed to run option game. As far as arm strength, Jeremiah has the strongest arm in the BDD now that Colley has graduated, I'm not sure that he didn't have the strongest arm last year. His accuracy needs to improve and it will, especially if he gets a couple of good targets to throw to. The Kid from Hurley who QB'd most of last year before the injury, was a more complete QB, arm strentgh, accuracy and mobility. He may have not been the best in either category but he demonstrated a more complete package. So as far as the BDD Qb position goes I think that everyone has something worthy to bring to the table, we aren't hurting for QB's, I don't however know what Haysi will bring to the table in '05 at that position now that Colley is gone. Just a few thoughts, KEEP ON KEEPIN ON

  18. It's good to hear the football talk heating up again. Being a Coach I will have to admit that Wyatt Justus from Twin Valley will be tough to contend with this year. He is a sophomore and he works like a dog in the weight room, he is now benching 320 and should be around 350 by August. He needs to work on his running skills,he still doesn't get low enough, but defensively He could be the best in the BDD if he continues to improve. I enjoy listening to your comments and hope that the entire BDD gets some of the much needed and deserved respect it has coming to it this year. Good luck to all, Just my 2 cents worth.................

  23. Twin Valley passed a major Gut Check this Friday night. Trailing 8 to 0 at halftime the Panthers regrouped and made some key adjustments and came out in the second half and exploded for 33 points. The halftime stats saw TV with 8 yards passing and only 7 yards rushing. TV was also having trouble stopping Pocy' on some rather simple plays. The first half was very sluggish and it appears that TV was taking Pocy for granted. All of that changed in the second half. The Panthers went into the game shooting for 250 yards rushing, which was one of the offensive goals for the night, in the second half they put up over 260 and managed to accomplish that goal, Brandon Helton had a superb game in the second half as did Wyatt Justus and Chance Hamro. The passing game also picked up and Jeremiah Lester managed to get over 125 in yards which was also a pre-game offensive goal. The defense on the other hand didn't play pass coverage very well and the Indiands were able to take advantage of some out of position Panthers. This is something that had been looking very good, Friday night however, it had instances where it let down the TV defense. I am sure we will work on pass coverage this week and improve in this area. The Panthers are off to the best start in school history and they are now facing the MEAT of their schedule, Haysi, Honaker and J.I. Burton. Win or lose these 3 games could make or break the Panthers as far as morale and encouragment goes. A good showing could be all the panthers need against these 3 teams to maintain their confidence, but an upset or two would do wonders for the program. Glad to see Hurley representing well, I expect them to take Big Creek next week. OUt!!!!!!!!!1
  24. Twin Valley improved to 2-1 on the season with a 13-0 win at Big Creek W.Va. The Owls are much improved from last year and are playing with more players, around 30, they are also playing what may be their final season at Big Creek High, they will consolidate with Iaeger High. Being at TV for my second season, I would have to say that this past Friday night was the first time they actually looked and played like a football team. The Defense pitched the first shut-out in TV history and they had set that as their goal for the game. The offense was ravaged by penalties, 19 for 145 yards!!!! Big Creek by the way had 3 penalties for 15 yards, the third penalty came with less than a minute to go in the game when they jumped off sides. Talk about some home-cookin'!!!! Mr Click and the officiating crew were TERRIBLE!!! The Panthers finally established a strong running game and Jeremiah Lester pickedthe secondary apart on some nice passes. The Panthers had several scoring opportunities thwarted by very questionable penalties, YOU SHOULD SEE THE GAME FILM, clipping penalties called on players who failed to make contact with anyone during the plays. Holding penalties on pancake blocks, etc. etc. The Panthers have their hands full with Pocahontas in two weeks as they hope to heal some minor wounds during the bye week. out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  25. Does anyone have any info on GBC? scrimmage info, numbers, offense, defense...anything?
