  1. I hope so Trumpet-----and I'll be there to enjoy every moment of it!----By the way--(Good Luck to the Vikings!)
  2. Wave61----You spoke what you felt----nothing wrong there pal no matter who it offended. And like I said before, isnt that what this forum is for? Then if not, just maybe we should not have it. When Ideas or thoughts are ridiculed by others that fair different, and are mocked to the point that we loose peoples true feelings for whom they appear on here for, then what is the reasoning for being on here? After all, it doesnt say(Richlands Football Message Board), or does it?
  3. Will be a fun and interesting game for both teams. Appalachia has the running game (down packed) and have advanced in the passing game putting yardage downfield quickly when least expected. This will be an interesting showdown because the Rebels have a few nice tricks up the ole sleeve as well. The Dawgs prevail in an early play-off thriller; Appalchia 28 - Hurley 17
  4. I agree BLUENECKNATION, but should be interesting never the less. See ya at the games!
  5. LOL----I still cant get over the fact that so many take evaluations on numbers, school size, team size, or how many A's represent a particular school, Division, or what have you. Being an old school football player from Appalachia with an enrollment of 200, we never judged if we could beat another team because of how big the school or how many players they had, we figured we could get it done (with 11 players at a time!), and we did.
  6. The VHSL Region D football playoff picture is coming into focus. The four teams in each division already are determined, but all the pairings will not be finalized until after Friday. In Division 1, the matchups are set. Rye Cove (7-3) is in as the Cumberland District champion and the fourth-seeded War Eagles will travel to No. 1 seed and co-Lonesome Pine District champion J.I. Burton (9-1). Hurley (8-2) finished third in the Black Diamond District but claimed the No. 3 seed thanks to its VHSL rating, earning the right to go to Appalachia. The Bulldogs (7-3) are the No. 2 seed. Pound was the unlucky dog this season, finishing with one of the top four power ratings but being shut out of the playoffs. The Division 2 pairings remain up in the air. The only seed that has been determined is No. 4 Powell Valley (7-3). The Vikings' opponent will be decided by the outcomes of Friday's Haysi at Grundy and Richlands at Lebanon games. Currently, Gate City is the No. 2 seed with a rating of 19.7 and Haysi is the No. 1 seed with a rating of 19.8. The Blue Devils (8-2) could jump to the top spot, however, after the season-ending game between Haysi (8-1) and Grundy (2-7). Conversely, the top three seeds could be scrambled if Lebanon were to upset Southwest District winner Richlands. Black Diamond champ Honaker (8-2) is currently the No. 3 seed with a 19.3 rating.
  7. I will not dwell on what school or team is bigger, nor will I dwell in how many A's there are that represents that particular Team, School, or Division. I will rely on what has always been a true source in any game, fight, or challenge. (It is not the size of the Dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the Dog.) This should be an outstanding game and goodluck to both teams!
  8. Nicely put WAVE61. It does appear that many overlook, if not squirm at the freedom of expression and speech on these forums. After all, isnt that what these sites are all about? Goodluck to all the teams who fought hard to make it to the play-offs.
  9. Can someone post the South West Virginia Football (Playoffs schedule) when they find out who plays who and where? Thank you.
  10. Answer to VHSfan999 on how many State Titles Tom Turner, who coaches the Appalachia Bulldogs has won. This is a May 2005 release from the (Virginia High School Hall of Fame.) Of course the wins have grown since May and he surpassed the 200 wins mark early in the 2005 season. I would like to add that the Appalachia Bulldogs will be in the playoffs this 2005 season as well. Thomas L. Turner Appalachia High School Over 25 years coaching football at Appalachia High School, Tom Turner has established a record of 198-103- His teams have won 11 regional championships, finished as state runners-up three times and claimed five state championships. He was National Coach of the Year in 1994. As a student at the school, Tom led both the football and basketball teams to state championships, winning All-State honors for himself in both sports.
  11. Like I posted in a previous post concerning Richlands, which proved true in the game against Carroll. Dont let "Over Confidence rule". (If you snooze, you just might loose!) Good luck to Richlands and opposing teams in the playoffs.
  12. Good Luck to the GateCity Blue Devils! (Go Get um!)
  13. "Big Game" indeed! I have watched both teams this year against various opposing teams. J.I. Burtons speed will challenge a strong Bluedevil defensive front line. But though the Devils lack the speed on offense, the muscle itself will be a factor when yardage is needed even on small gains down the field, or just enough to push the ball through the goal line. Here (in my opinion) is speed against muscle in what will surely be a hard hitting if not, the game of the week. (Good luck to both teams!) See ya at the game. Speed prevails in this one with a J.I.Burton win after a hard fought game!
  14. I can name three inducted into the (Hall of Fame) here in Southwest Virginia. All three have comemerable records in game wins, much less time (years) coaching. And to add a more favorable note: all three have coached "State Winning Teams" at one time or another. They are (in no certain order or fashion), and still active coaches: Tom Turner -- Appalachia Bulldogs Nick Colobro -- Gate City Blue Devils Phil Robbins -- Powell Valley Vikings
  15. My Predictions for Week #11 are as follows; J.I. Burton 21 - Gate City 14 Appalachia 22 - Powell Valley 20 Clintwood 16 - Pound 12 Carroll County 28 - Graham 22 Coeburn 20 - J.J.Kelly 6 Thomas Walker 14 - St. Paul 12 Haysi 21 - Ervinton 7 Ryecove 14 - Twin Springs 7 *(Two Games Of The Week)---"Appy/PV",..."JIB/GC".
