Nah, the referees wont let us stay that close to Gate City. Just like last year, we will play good and then lose late on some questionable calls.

Dumb mistakes happen, especially in a first game of the year/rivalry game, and they happened to us last night. The talent gap is MUCH closer than the score indicated, but I dare say that if Abingdon plays Tennessee High, the score is no closer than it was for us. In all honesty, if we score the TD in the 2nd qtr before Messer gets picked, to make it 13-7, we have the momentum and the games outcome might be different. We'd stopped them before that when the offense didn't make a mistake, so the defense can't be faulted. With respect to the PH game, we outgained them, not by a ton, but the PH QB was running for his life out there and it wasn't until we called off the dogs in the 3rd qtr did they sustain any sort of drive and finally score. Special teams was much better for us in that game with the blocked punt and decent returns, plus the defense had the PH QB frazzled. You can defend them all you want and point out the slight disparity in yardage, but my god man, even when PH cut the lead to 7 in the 3rd, they never really got any momentum and the outcome was never in doubt. It's a moot point though. We beat PH and played well, we lost to THS and underachieved.....it happens. We'll regroup, put 40 points on Battle, then get ready for you guys in a few weeks.

[/ QUOTE ] Actually, yes, the downward trend is expected to continue, unfortunately. From last year, to this year, 45 were lost.

[/ QUOTE ] Actually Lance, our enrollment is 40 below the AA level, and we just have a hard time competing week in, week out, at AA. A move to the Hogoheegee would be perfect. We have natural, interstate rivalries, with a couple of those schools, and geographically its much closer than the LPD. Besides, the LPD doesnt offer Soccer or Swimming, 2 sports VHS excels at.

Morrison, the starter, made a brief appearance, but should be back for the next game, versus Carroll County in two weeks.

Tennessee High 40 Virginia High 12

Have the 87th V-T game tonight. THS comes in top 5 in the state in AAAA, and has looked like a small college team. We come off a let down game against Graham. Is there any chance we are able to keep it close or pull the upset at home tonight against them?
