  1. I knew you were from the jump 😆 The Simpsons/Henrico School Board Prank inspired name was a nice touch tho. I found it hilarious lol As I said before you signed up and decided to troll the thread, officiating wasn't good, but it had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. We had 3 separate drives inside the Giles 15 with no points, and we didn't make the stops we needed to on Giles 4th qtr drive to get the ball back. You can keep trolling me tho. It's funny as hell lmao
  2. That would be Harner. At least I believe so, anyway. I noticed it some last night myself.
  3. Not the first time "Mike Hawk" exposed my ignorance. Just the first time it's been anything football related 😆🤣
  4. Everyone should care about "Mike Hawk" 🤣
  5. Relax lol! No one is blaming the officials, and they ultimately had nothing to do with the outcome. But fans from both communities will both attest to the fact that both teams had to deal with it. And both teams did. Still doesn't change the fact that it was by no means a well officiated game.
  6. Hey, we helped y'all a little on that drive in the 4th lol! Seriously, I credit your defense more so than your offense. We had three 1st and goal opportunities that resulted in a turnover, a missed FG, and a turnover on downs. Ball control in the 4th was massive as well, though. Just curious who you are referring to about the bitching and moaning tho? No debate...I just want to see things thru your perspective is all.
  7. Great game, and congrats Spartans. You're absolutely right...The coming years very well could make for some classics. Losses are always disappointing, but proud of our effort. Neither team played a perfect game, and it damn sure wasn't officiated perfect for either side lol! But it was a very good game to watch all the same. The final minute of that game brought back a lot of "big game" feelings between us two. Regardless of the outcome....That was awesome!
  8. Lol he’s not saying it sarcastically or insinuating that Carroll recruited him. Gosnell is a legitimate next level 4 star recruit who recently decommited from Ohio St.
  9. GW has not had a losing season in 25 consecutive seasons and only has 2 in the last 32. I understand at face value, with Harner’s win-loss record a lot of folks can’t understand why some folks from Wytheville have gripes. The truth is that we were winning at that rate long before Harner arrived. We certainly didn’t flourish overnight under his watch. There are some legitimate concerns as to why we haven’t gotten over the hump during his time here. Yes, some is due to competition (particularly Galax and Riverheads), but we have, in fact, had teams that underachieved. However, the man has maintained our ability to remain competitive. As I’ve mentioned, I feel like his best coaching jobs have been with our lesser talented teams. While I’m not sure he’ll ever be a guy that can get us over the hump like we’ve been able to do in the past, things aren’t as bad as some from Wytheville make it out to be. He’ll still find ways to drive me bonkers….I’m confident in that lol! But our kids still play hard, and that’s the main thing to me. GW very well might snap that 25 year streak this season. Time will tell. Between a beefed up schedule and a lack of experience, it’ll be a tough year. But we cannot place the blame on Harner if that doesn’t happen. As a matter of fact, a 5-5 season would be a helluva job on his part. Sorry. Off my soapbox on the subject lol
  10. Not a Harner fan here, but that has nothing to do with offensive play calling. Ironically, I feel like his best coaching jobs have been with his least talented teams. So glad this series is back! Giles has without a doubt been my favorite program to follow (other than GW, of course) since the 80's. Seeing a schedule with you guys and Radford on it just feels right. Good luck my Spartan friends!
  11. Ah, I do remember him. Yes, he was a damn good one as well.
  12. A couple of weeks after that game, I heard a story that the VT coaches/scouts/whatever were up in the press box for that game. As soon as he missed that kick, they packed up everything and left. One was supposedly overheard saying "He'll never kick for us" Now I don't know if that story is true or not. No idea. But one thing about that I knew for certain a few years later....He never did kick for VT lol
  13. Blacksburg really caught stride in the second half of the season and never looked back. They beat Courtland in the final, right? Now Radford? They beat the living tar outta us in 89 lol! I don't remember the score that night but they hung 40+ on us. Lewis Ramsey, Chad Phillips, Ritchie Delany, and Maceo Dickinson I distinctly remember from that squad. Ramsey was disgustingly quick at DE. Side note: One of the best HS football games I ever saw was in 91 with that Radford team headlined by Tommy Edwards going against a Jefferson Forest team with Byron Spinner and a sophomore Anthony Poindexter. Unreal game. Everyone on the school grounds knew that Edwards was getting the ball in the 2nd half, and JF still couldn't stop him after building that 21-0 lead. Raddy pushed it to OT only to have Edwards finally stopped at the 1 yard line on 4th down to seal the game.
  14. 1989. You guys beat us 19-3 to snap a losing skid on your way to the 2A championship highlighted by Jerome Tressell and Jared Hamlin. I might have been there lol Those 16 points yall got off of us on turnovers in the 2nd qtr killed us.
  15. You're telling your age lol! Sounds like we might have played against each other in the NRD days
  16. That sounds about right with what I'm thinking! Thank you my friend.. Helluva ball game!
  17. You have no idea how much I love playing Radford right out of the gate every year. Win or lose, you guys always show us where our weaknesses are. 5-5 might be realistic. Between you guys, Galax, and Graham...plus tough opponents like Rural Retreat, Fort Chiswell, Giles, Carroll, and a better coached Grayson team, I'd be thrilled with 6 wins lol! I'm very hopeful and excited, to be honest.
  18. I agree to a degree. Our passing game does in fact need to get sync'ed up, and the only way to do that is thru repetition. But on the flip side, we do need to win. One thing I've noticed with this team is that the WR's block VERY well. We found some rhythm with in the run game with the motion handoff to Fowler and countered that with Luke on the keep. I agree...It's basic, and sure we need more going forward. But given the situation, I wasn't mad at it. I did see a couple of RPO wrinkles that left me encouraged. I'm with you that we have to get Houston, Kirtner, and Walters more involved to be more efficient tho. I don't hold that pick 6 squarely on Luke, either. That was a play action by design. All the safety has to do is not bite and the WR comes to him. None of those issues irk me more than our tendency to reverse/fake reverse kickoff returns, tho. That's a whole damn soapbox in itself for me.
  19. I actually remember. A few of us skipped a GW game to go see Richlands/Carroll in Hillsville. Richlands (I believe) was undefeated and hadn't given up a defensive touchdown. Carroll had their best squad in years, and I recall had a kicker recruited by Tech. It was 7-0 Richlands with seconds to go, and Carroll hit a miracle TD with seconds to play. Their highly coveted kicker.... missed. Richlands 7 Carroll 6 was the final. Don't ask me the year....I couldn't tell you lol! Mid to late 2000's if I had to guess.
  20. A coworker of mine from Hillsville was telling me about Gosnell a few weeks back....I thought he was FOS lol Of course, I've found out otherwise since. I can't make all the games, but that's damn sure one I won't miss now.
  21. I was impressed with a couple of FC linebackers myself. Safety made an excellent read on the pick 6. To be honest, the previous series, it looked to me like the slant would be there all day in that formation. Obviously, I was wrong lol! We still have a lot to clean up on the offensive side of the ball, but I can't take anything away from what Fort did defensively. I know what you're saying about Fort's offensive scheme as well. Not gonna lie, it was pretty evident to me early that we outmanned them pretty heavily on the edge. From that standpoint, I understand why their offense did what they did, but like you said, there was no counters, no "keep you honest", and no real threat of anything beyond Varney. 100% agree with you. And for the life of me, I do not understand why in the hell Fort decided to punt from our 35. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Brandon Harner outcoached Spider in that moment and left our punt return unit on the sideline. Spider got what he deserved there lol.
  22. We aren't. There's a bit of a youth movement going on here. Combine that with a tougher schedule, and I anticipate us taking some lumps this season. I'm still very excited to see some of your younger playmakers develop, though. As far as the Fort matchup, I see a close, competitive game. Can go either way.
  23. I'm not surprised I'm in the minority here, but I think it'll be a very entertaining game. Galax is more well rounded, but Brooks is very capable of frustrating the Tide and making this a game late.
  24. We are, and I'm excited to see what we do the next 3-4 seasons. Man, I'd sure love to have Thompson back for one more though lol
