  1. Thought you'd like to know that 2004 graduate Derrick Steptoe had a breakout game yesterday in Montgomery against WVU Tech. The Charleston freshman ran for over 110 yards on only 11 carries in only his second game playing offense for the Golden Eagles. While he didn't get into the endzone, he was crucial in giving UC the 28-21 win, their first winning season in 46-some years.
  2. don't know exactly what station it is on your dial there in Richlands, but it's channel 11 up here.
  3. Richlands fans, we're doing a story on you guys tonight at 11pm on CBS-59, just thought you all would like to know...
  4. [ QUOTE ] I seen 59 news there tonight but I agree we need some local coverage all the time. [/ QUOTE ] To be honest, we're never really sure how much you guys watch our station down there for VA Highlights, or even if you can get our station on the Dial! Most of the time we figure the Tazewell County audience just checks out VVA for highlights and scores. So, we figure our time is better spent elsewhere. When I used to work for Channel 4 in Oak Hill last season, I made it down to about 4 games in Richlands, but it was an awfully long drive for us (1:35 compared to VVA's :35) But if the interest is there, I'll definitely bring it up in our future meetings.
  5. I caught a little bit of the Liberty/MV Scrimmage (one of four on the day!) and I was impressed with what I saw from the Knights. Their tight end Shannon Thomas will be a Force, he's got the size and he even went deep on a few routes, so he's got some wheels. Their running game will be a question mark but their Defense was pretty stifling. Unfortunately, looks like Liberty will need a little luck if they want to make the playoffs for the fourth straight year. They are very YOUNG. How many games they win will definitely depend on the learning curve. Tommy Newman looked even bigger and ran the ball well as expected, but he's gonna need a little help. Both QB's need a little more time to mature...It's a shame Donovan Reeves decided to sit out the year and focus more on baseball, because they really play much better with him in the game.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if the crappy reception was our tower's fault and not Comcast's, but I could be wrong...We don't exactly have the greatest of equipment up in Oak Hill. By the way, we didn't have the time to show it in our highlights last night, but Danny Wells actually RAN the ball in last night's game, on a delayed lineman handoff on a third down and long and nearly got the first down. I don't think I've ever seen him handle the ball before.
  7. BTW: Big props to WVVA for showing ZERO highlights of the game and reporting nothing on the game. Instead it was a show filled with NASCAR B.S. [/ QUOTE ] You should've been watching us on WOAY-TV 4 (if you can get us that is!!) We had highlights from the first three quarters including a handful of beautiful plays from Rusty... I don't know whether or not Coeburn took himself out from QB'ing or not but Williams replaced him mid-series, two plays after he threw for a 15 yard reception...Either way, he made one defensive coordinator at Wesleyan very happy I'm sure. On a personal note, I know it's tough getting you folks in Bluefield to watch our station (WOAY), but over the past two weeks we've been to the North-South Basketball, Football, Softball, Baseball games along with the WV/OH Basketball Border battles, and even to the Beavers opening Summer practice (something VVA nearly neglected to mention, much less show up at)...If you guys give us a chance some nights, we won't let you down.
  8. I wouldn't read a heck a lot into any rumors concerning Adam Havens transferring to Bluefield...considering his father is his Head Coach and all. That would probably make for awkward dinner conversation.
  9. [ QUOTE ] At the beginning of the telecast, the anchor said Bluefield and Wayne instead of Weir. Come on. [/ QUOTE ] I know it's tough to actually sit through our News, but even though we're an hour away from Bluefield, we at WOAY actually spend more time at Beaver Camp than our competition. From what we saw, we had no clue what was going on when the fight broke out, although we heard it was set off by raucous fans. Bluefield PD said he wasn't going to be arrested, just detained, and no charges would probably be filed, that's why we didn't mention it. From a legal standpoint, he's probably OK for now...until of course, the school board and parents get on him.
  10. The thing a lot of people really don't give Bluefield enough credit for is their Defense. They made two crucial fourth and one stops on Martinsburg in the first half last week. However, they haven't really played a team with a strong rushing attack as Shady Spring. The Tigers have 3 capable guys in their backfield right now (4 if Jeremy Lynch is healthy enough to suit up) in Brandon Phillips, who had 230+ last week, Josh Mann, and Jerry Farrish. But Simon's boys are so disciplined on the other side of the line of scrimmage that I don't even know if that will make a difference. Much like the James Monroe game if Shady gets down early I think they can be counted out. Bluefield will most likely win...and they will most likely run the gambit until Week 10 where my most anticipated matchup will take place: Bluefield Vs James Monroe
  11. Regarding Bluefield players...From what I've heard, Lucas Stone might be signing with Pitt...Would add some local flavor on the otherside of the Backyard Brawl
