  1. nope - needed to stay home this weekend since Salem's coming up. Didn't hear any radio coverage last night - don't know if they had any planned for today or not.
  2. 1st Regional crown for the 24-3 Panthers They'll host Radford in the state 1/4's, prob. Sat. night in Clinchco. Girls final : Gate City 50, Haysi 39 Tigerettes travel to C'burg to play 27-0 Floyd Co., coached by W'wood native Alan can-TRELL (not KANT-rul)
  3. After three 2-and-out's in the past 7 years, a young lady has finally picked up a win at the VHSL state wrestling tournament. First, it was Shawsville's Andee Sears in 2000, then, last year, both Hadley Perona from Wytheville & Herndon's Firen Gassman were unable to out-point the guys. Firen, who's just a Soph., made it back this year as the #4 seed from the AAA Northern Region at 103. After losing her opener, she picked up a 10-7 decision in the first consolation round before being eliminated in round 2.
  4. IV girls : #7 Magna Vista (18-3) 66, Tazewell (16-11) 51 C boys: Glenvar (23-5) 38, Radford (19-7) 32 C girls : #1 Floyd (26-0) 68, Lebanon (21-7) 46 Lebanon earned their 1st trip to state Floyd will host Gate-Haysi loser @ C'burg And --- the Grundy G-Men ?!?!?!? http://www.roanoke.com/sports/highschool/wb/54159
  5. so, 2 champ. rounds Fri. night & Sat. starts with the semis, right?
  6. she "retired" a while back due to the injury - with AAU play coming up, it doesn't need to worsen. She was at the game and said her foot was feeling better.
  7. IV semis - boys : Bassett 61, Grundy 48 D semis - girls : Gate City 48, Twin Valley 35
  8. After spotting Grundy a 3-point lead after the 1st quarter, MV went on a 15-0 run, inc. a 2:00, 10-point streak by Ashley Norton, as the Lady Warriors easily defeated Grundy 66-38. After a pretty even 8 minute stretch sandwiching h/t, MV went on another 15-0 run to lead 56-26 with 6:00 to play. Norton led all scorers w/ 25 points while Latisha Belcher added 24. Kaitlyn Riley & Ashley Cook led the Lady Wave (19-4) w/ 12 each. MV (17-3) advances to play either Tazewell (15-10) or Va. High (20-3) for the Region IV crown Friday night at 7 at the Bearcat Den. The Wave boys have their work cut out for them Thur. night as they travel to Bassett. Word is that a lot of the Bengals were F-C football players a couple of years back. I just know they've been waiting to get another shot at us since we won the last football game ever played at F-C.
  9. IV boys q/f : Grundy 48, Lee 46 Theo Justus had 19 to lead 17-9 Grundy - Wave play at 13-8 Bassett Thur.@ 7 IV girls q/f : Magna Vista 66, Lee 24 16-3 Warriors play @ 19-3 Grundy Wed. @ 7. D girls q/f : Twin Valley 47, St. Paul 40 17-8 Panthers play 21-4 Gate City Thur. @ 7 @ Clinchco.
  10. semi in Grundy will be WED. night @ 7
  11. SWD semis are at Carroll Co. Go down 77 to exit 14. Take a left at the bottom of the ramp onto 58 East for about 10 minutes. You'll pass through Hillsville (be careful at the light - left-turning traffic just over the hill may not be visible), and the school is about a mile or two down on the left.
  12. I was told brackets are like this ... High 2 - Pied 1; SWD 1 SWD 2 - Pied 2; High 1 which would give us : Lee - MV, with the winner coming to Grundy on Thur. (since MV is a #1 seed, I'm assuming they'll host) Taze - Mart (with some Taze. fans saying this would be Monday night in Tazewell), with the winner going to Va. High. Only thing I'm SURE of is that Grundy won Thur. night
  13. Samantha Rice scored 15 of her game-high 18 points in the first half as the Lady Wave downed Tazewell 58-50. Grundy will have a first-round bye in the Region IV tournament, then host a semi-final game next Thursday night. Carroll Co. won the SWD JV tourney title by defeating Grundy 33-29 in overtime. Grundy 58 : Cook 13, Rice 18, Lindsey 10, Fletcher 6, K. Riley 4, Bowman 7, Hibbitts, Davis, A. Riley. Tazewell 50 : Hunter 7, Davis 11, Shephard 10, Muncy 11, Blackburn 4, Brooks 3, Matney 4.
  14. For the record, here's 2 changes for the consol. finals (3rd/4th place) : 119 Billy Owens, (Gru) def. Jacob Beasley, (CC) fall, 5:30 (ot) 125 Batgerel Batsakhan, (GRA) def. Michael Baumgardner, (CC) fall, 2:30 Also, I don't think Lamb (160) will be at Regionals - elbow injury.

  16. Grundy had 11 individual champs, 1 each for: Carroll Co.(Joe Ogle, 112) Graham (Brent Cook, 160) Richlands (Evan Simmons, 119) Grundy 279, Graham 165, Richlands 122, Carroll Co. 103, Tazewell 72 I'll type up match results and have them up around 10:30
  17. no one said. But I don't know if Carroll would want to play the next 2 nights after a play-off trip to Tazewell.
  18. starts Wed.@ 5 @ Rverview E/M. I'll post some results by 10.
  19. Lots of ticky-tacky fouls on Grundy - at least 2 each in the 1st & 4th while being statues. When you establish position at the foul line before the ball crosses half-court, then stand there with your arms up, how do you get called for a foul when the other girl makes contact? Grundy saw a 6 point lead at the half turn into a 6 point deficit with about 2:30 left. Cook's trey with :06 left sent the game into OT, where the Lady Waves ran the clock down to 3:10 before taking & hitting their 1st shot. Good ball control and D led to a shut-down of the G-Girls, who were outscored 9-0, as Grundy won 66-57. Riley-26, Fletcher-12, Cook-10, Bowman-8, Lindsey-7, Rice-3 Carbough-25, Bourne-20, Bennett-9, Sawyers-2, Wolkoft-1 Tazewell beat Carroll in the opener, 46-36. Thursday night @ Grundy : JV title @ 6 - Grundy & Carroll Varsity @ 7:30 ish - Grundy & Tazewell BOYS : if they beat Carroll Wed. night, semis will be at Riverview Friday night and the finals Sat. night.
  20. Grundy wins 58-52 - heads back to Taze. for Wed. night game vs. Carroll. I'll be at the wrestling tourney, so don't know when I'll get back to post the score. Off to the girls' game.
  21. Boys : Grundy 18, Graham 13 - h/t I'll post the boys final around 7:30, then head down to Riverview to check out the girls - should have those scores up around 10.
  22. I heard that Coach B. defected to a nearby NC powerhouse
  23. Monday night : 6:00 - 3 Tazewell vs. 2 Carroll; 7:45 - 4 Graham vs. 1 Grundy
  24. Someone wasn't very happy with the refs tonight. Don't know how, but Grundy wins 73-71. Wave gets a bucket AND 2 free throws with :05 left to get their first lead of the night and Richlands misses the last shot. I think the principals will meet Friday to determine who plays in a playoff game Sat. at Tazewell.
  25. Another call against us. Richlands gets a basket after the buzzer to maintain a 6 point lead after 3 quarters.
