  1. That is very sad! Steve was a good player and a great person, our prayers go out to his family.
  2. VA High beat Honaker 68-47, good job guys. Congradulations Coach Mitchell!!! Keep up the good work!!!
  3. listen here, day after monday, if you know so much about how things should go then you apply for the job. the only way the kids will respect the coach is if the parents respect the coach. if seniors want to show leadership, they need to respect the coach and lead by example not by mouth. i think that vcats knows a little about sports and how the team concept is supposed to be unlike some of these people that just want to bash the coach. if you dont like the coach or like watching the team, then stay at home. the kids need positive feedback from their peers, parents and fans in order to become overcomers. at the end of the year would be a good time for you to voice your concerns. the coach and players had enough heart to beat richlands didn't they? did your football team beat richlands? did you bash him as well? what are we teaching our kids if we don't teach them to obey the rules? in life, if you are on the job and don't obey the rules you get fired. the same is true in school or in sports, obey the rules or suffer the consequences. Thanks again to coach mitchell for leading our kids and being a positive role model for our children.
  4. I heard that they are going to have intramurals for the 5,6,7 grades and let the 8th grade play jv. If that is the case it may not be all that bad. A 8th grader will have five years of learning the system instead of 4. But the whole thing is to cut programs and save money!! I thought taz. county's moto was "Its all about the kids"
  5. That hit the nail on the head babyblue. If you want to win then it is totally up to you. Don't blame the coach or anyone else. "If it is to be then its up to me". I hope our team shows the heart it showed in football. If we do that then we can get on the right track. Don't point fingers and dont be persuaded by people that talk negative about your team or coach.
  6. Congradulations to the VA High girls and boys on their victories last night! I also want to congradulate their coaches for having to put up with the crap that they put up with! The boys won and still someone has to question the coaches decisions. I think the coach should give back the $1,000 that he gets paid to coach.
  7. It sounds like VA High is having the same problems that Richlands is having. We are not winning so we start pointing fingers. the coach is always the easiest target.I agree with VCATS in that the players are responsible for the game. If you work hard in the off season then the in season will take care of itself. You get out of something what you put into it. You have your priorities, what is important? Swimming, hanging out at the mall, keeping the road hot or working out trying to get better?
  8. That is what true atheletes do juice dog!! They over come obstacles: not look for excuses. If you like the sport or even to compete then you learn to overcome the things you dislike. Life is not a bed of roses, but it has challanges each and everyday. Too many kids look for an excuse instead of trying to fight through adversity. Tom is one of the winningest coaches in Richlands history like it or not. If you are an athelete then compete if you are a cheerleader then cheer. Don't use the coach as an escape goat.
  9. I truely dont hate you or any other person mentioned, I once played for a coach that I couldn't stand either but I loved the sport and played anyway. I think you all did an excellent job in football, we are looking for an exceptional baseball team as well. I am just saying that if you want to do something then dont let anything or anyone stand in your way!!! I hope that everyone of you get to play in college (we all know how expensive it is now a days)
  10. I have several xbox games for sale. 1. madden 2003 (football) 2. slugfest 2004 (baseball) 3. nba 2k2 (basketball) 4. knockout kings (boxing) I will take ten dollars a piece for them.
  11. Does anyone know who won the girls jv and varsity between richlands and graham?
  12. Good job chump!! IF you can get some more people to talk to Mr.Hovis he will listen. I know him pretty good, he has the children at heart. He is a former coach and he knows the importance of weightlifting and conditioning. We can't just say we want it for football because then we would be cheating all the other sports. The more people it will help, the better the chance we have of getting this class. We need some female atheletes to get involved in this as well. Let's keep up the good work. Remember to be kind and considerate when emailing these board members. They are very professional and demand professional status. Thankz!
  13. That was an awesome hit!!!! I remember a playoff game at mitchell stadium when Bradshaw ran down on a kickoff and nailed the runner from (I don't rem. the team). It knocked the runners helmet about ten foot in the air and about five feet backwards. I am glad to see him getting some positive coverage. I hope he keeps his head on and stays out of trouble!!!!!!!
  14. Good job blues 56 we are on the right track. We need everyone asking the coaches what they think, we need th e parents to talk to the school board about implementing this program for the boys and girls. We all need to ask the principals to take a look at this. Let's all do our part to get this thing rolling. Don't expect someone else to getting it going. We need all the taz. county schools to reply to this! Thankz!
  15. It just makes sense for the kids (male - female) to have the opportunity to get stronger and faster in order to compete. Most of these kids have to work during the summer or after school and are not allowed the same chances as everyone to compete. If this class was offered during school hours it would help all sports programs tremendoously. It's good to see some of these other schools giving not only their atheletes a chance to better their body but for the entire student body to live a healthier and stronger life. I hope that we can get this started in Taz. county soon!!!!!
  16. SORRY BUD, THE GAME IS FOR 48 MIN NOT 46. We dont stop at 46 min and see who is ahead. I congratulate bluefield for finishing what they started. You can whine about the coaching all you want too, but who was in charge to get you too that point? Who led you to all the other victories? I congratulate the Weir coach for his accomplishments this season. I wish him the best in his life. That play may have been dumb in the fans eyes (mine included) but he is the one getting paid to make the decisions, thats what he done.
  17. I think the reason that gate city is so successful is that the coaches have complete control of their atheletes. The kids that play for them respect their coaches. The parents respects the decisions of the coaches and support them 100%. It just makes for a more enjoyable enviroment for everyone. The fact they have weightlifting and conditioning for their atheletes during school hours also is a big plus. Both girls and boys participate in this class. That helps as far as in season and out of season training as well.. You can't start in Aug. and compete with these teams that run their program year round. These classes would benefit every program (boys and girls). Let's hope that Taz.county catches on before long.
  18. I think Mr. Swartz does a fine job!! He has brought alot of enthuasim and intestity to band.. He really works hard and it shows. I take my hat off to him and the band. I think the parents of the band should be commended as well. They really give alot of time and effort to make RHS Band #1. Thank you!
  19. You have to love that about her, (good looking, good athelete, good student, good person) I can see why she made ALL SWD First Team as well as ALL Region IV in volleyball. Does she play any othe sports? I'd say she can get a scholarship in volleyball if she chooses.
  20. I heard that Nikki went to emory and henry this past weekend for a tryout. She is also going to bluefield sometime for another tryout. I wish her the best because she is a good student and a great person
  21. I think that somebody overslept this morning when they were suppose to be out checkin the roads. I seen several areas that cars had slid into the ditch. Their was a tractor and trailer that wrecked about 7:30 on the interstate to bland.
  22. that was the game without starting qb (Adam). Donnie done a good job in his place.
  23. They also shut out bluefield for three quarters after giving up 13 pts the first 4 min of the game.
  24. one team that has already been mentioned was the richlands '87 football team. They had 7 shut outs that year. The shut-outs came against some very top notch teams. Lord Botetourt, Northside(Roanoke), Giles, Lebanon, Grundy, Graham, and someone else but I don't remember. They didn't win a state championship like some of the other teams mentioned here but they would knock your head off.
