  1. I think they are asking for trouble if they move the 8th grade to the high school , unless they can show that research supports this crazy idea. I think that they also want to eliminate middle school sports, so is this really in the best interest of the students or is this politics. I'm sure we will be hearing much more on this topic.
  2. Taewell has 5 good player that the coach puts on the floor ,but has no depth at all.For Graham to win the rematch Graham must get to the Tazewells bench. It would also help the G-men if they learn how to play some defense. Last night it looked like they just showed up and the dawgs bit them good. Good luck to both teams for the rest of the season, and I look forward to watching the rematch. Graham feels Bulldogs' bite Posted: Friday, Jan 14, 2005 - 10:57:10 pm EST By LARRY HYPES Bluefield Daily Telegraph TAZEWELL, Va. - Tazewell's high flying Bulldogs are in a zone, literally. Tim Rasnick's team pushed Graham outside Friday and it paid off handsomely. Paced by Justin Wilson and Omar Reed the Southwest District leading Dogs (7-5, 3-0) cruised past Graham (5-6, 1-2) by a 71-51 margin as THS chalked up its third SWD triumph in the past week. Wilson tickled the twines for 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Reed patrolled the paint and added a double-digit double with 22 points and 20 rebounds. "It was closer at halftimethan we wanted it to be but we played an exceptional second half," Rasnick noted. "Wemade a halftime adjustment with our defense and I don't think they (Graham) expected us to do that." Eric Hoosier sparked the G-Men to an early 9-3 lead but was slowed by three first half fouls. Wilson, Reed and Justin Thompson shot Tazewell to a 16-10 first quarter advantage before Kevin Matthews, Jake Remines and Wills Murray answered for Graham. The G-Men outscored Tazewell 22-14 in the second stanza as Matthews and Thompson had 10 apiece at the break. Zone defense and cold shooting doomed the G-Men in the second half. "We just didn't shoot nearly well enough to win, said Graham coach Glynn Carlock Jr. "We couldn't hit and that has been our problem for the past couple of games. We want to get that turned around in a hurry." Tazewell opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run when Reed's free throw made it 39-32, but Graham again battled back. T.J. Carper went inside and banked one off the glass to pull the G-Men to within one at 40-39. Robert Henry tied the game for the last time when his bucket got the G-Men even at 43-43 with 7:40 remaining in the contest. Reed responded with eight of Tazewell's next 10 points as the Dogs put a 10-3 blitz on the G-Men. Wilson led the Dog fast break and kept the pressure going for the winners. The Dogs outscored Graham 28-10 in the final stanza to win going away. Matthews paced the G-Men with 14 while Remines added 12. Thompson also had 12 for Tazewell, which entertains Marion, Saturday at 5 p.m. Graham hosts Pulaski County at 7:30. Graham won the JV game 54-29 behind 14 points from J.D. Hunter and 13 by Obiye Kolokolo. Tazewell got five each from Scott Weitzel and Glen Blankenship. At Tazewell Middle School Graham (5-6).........10 22 9 10 - 51 Tazewell (7-5)........16 14 13 28 - 71
  3. G-Men outlast Beavers Posted: Friday, Jan 07, 2005 - 11:28:10 pm EST By TOM BONE Bluefield Daily Telegraph Tough game in the paint ... Graham G-Man Brandon Puckett (42) challenges a shot by Bluefield Beaver Tremayne Matthews (33) Friday night in action at Graham Middle School. Graham won the indoor Battle of the Bluefields 69-59 to earn a split in the season series between Bluefield's two high schools. (Staff photo by Eric DiNovo) BLUEFIELD - The Graham G-Men had the answer for everything the talented Bluefield Beavers threw at them on Friday night, taking a 69-59 win over their crosstown rivals on the court at Graham Middle School. Graham coach Glynn Carlock Jr. said, "This is the first time all season we've really put a complete game together, and we couldn't have picked a better time." The G-Men never trailed after breaking an 11-11 tie in the last two minutes of the initial period with a 7-3 run. The G-Men hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter. Bluefield pulled within one point of a tie on three occasions in the second stanza, but Graham closed out the final 1:19 of the half with a 4-for-4 performance at the foul line. Jake Remine's only field goal of the half finished a 6-1 run to conclude the period, and the G-Men held a 37-30 spread at the buzzer. The two teams raced the court in the third, combining for 41 points. Bluefield pulled together an 8-2 run in the middle of the period to threaten again at 43-40 before the G-Men scrambled back. Graham held a 56-49 lead with 11.2 seconds left in the quarter when Graham's Robert Henry was fouled on a drive to the hoop. Bluefield coach Ernie Gilliard argued with the official, drawing a technical foul, but each of the resultant foul tries missed. It remained for Graham's Matt Yost to hit a trey at the buzzer - his only points of the night - to give his team a 10-point margin going into the final frame. With three minutes left on the clock, Bluefield trailed 61-55, only to go 2-for-8 at the foul line in the remainder of the game. Graham was 6-for-11 at the charity stripe in that span. Gilliard said, "We probably had two possessions where we could've tied it up, but we didn't handle the ball well (or) didn't make foul shots. Our hats are off to Graham - they played harder than we did tonight. They played smarter than we did. "This is a learning process for us. We'll look at the film ... correct our mistakes, and get ready for the next game." Remines led Graham's scoring with 18 points, including 11 successful foul tries. Eric Hoosier added 13 and both Kevin Matthews and Mike Alvis scored 11. Johnathon Repass had eight of the Beavers' 22 field goals and ended with 20 points. Tremayne Matthews notched 14 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. Recounting his team's reactions at intermission, Carlock said, "I could tell by the look on their faces at halftime, I could tell they were ready to play for two more quarters." The Beavers, ranked third in West Virginia Class AA, will play at Shady Spring on Tuesday night, while Graham will be at Marion. 4. Just got back from the game 59-69 Graham.Graham played well tonight and had no problem with Bluefields press.Turn-overs killed Bluefield, and they didnt shoot well from the foul line.Good job G-men!
  5. I think Bluefield will win by 10 .Bluefield is a team on the way to the top and well Graham will have a Major problem with the press again.Good-luck to both teams get out there and support your team.
  6. I thought Richlands would have been better prepared for the press. It looked like they (Richlands) didn't prepare very well.Better luck next game, but you better get the kids ready.
  7. Back in the mid 70's a kid by the name of Jerome Wolkoff.Led the team all the way up state.
  8. What a game for the fans. It was a tough one to lose ,but neither team has nothing to hang their heads about. Both coaches did a good job coaching and the officiating was ok too.Looking forward to watching the Beavers again real soon.Good job to both teams!
  9. Graham got beat by a good rebounding team, but the officiating was awful! Where do they get these guys from? Knights knock off G-Men Posted: Thursday, Dec 23, 2004 - 10:41:33 pm EST By BOB REDD Bluefield Daily Telegraph BLUEFIELD - For the third consecutive night, the contest at the Bluefield Kiwanis Classic came down to the final minute of play before a winner was decided. Thursday night at the Ned Shott Gymnasium, the Mount View Golden Knights came from behind and then held off the Graham G-Men for a 67-63 victory. Mount View drew first blood with a Shannon Thomas tip-in only to see Graham score seven unanswered to take a 7-2 lead. The Knights fought back and Adam McMillion's putback at the 3:19 mark tied the game at eight. A flurry of treys brought the opening quarter to an end. Jake Remines' second shot from behind the arc brought the G-Men into a tie at 13 and T.J. Carper's 3 gave Graham a 16-13 lead. Mount View's James Edwards' long shot drew the Golden Knights even at the end of the quarter. The G-Men built a five-point lead midway through the second on 3-point buckets. Remines hit his third and Eric Hoosier dropped two bombs as Graham forged ahead, 27-22. The lead grew to 10 on Remines' fourth trey of the half, and Matt Yost's shot from just across midcourt at the buzzer gave the G-Men a 39-28 halftime lead. Graham pushed out to a 13-point lead midway through the third stanza as Remines continued to provide offensive fireworks for Graham. The Knights climbed back into the game with a 7-0 run, with Thomas being a force in the paint. Graham took a 50-45 lead into the final eight minutes. The G-Men again ran out to a 10-point lead early in the fourth, but again Mount View answered. Thomas' putback with 4:15 to go in the game tied the score at 55 and Eric Smith's layup and free throw put Mount View ahead for the first time since the first quarter. Remines' basket at the 2:14 mark ended Mount View's 13-0 run and a 4 1/2-minute scoring drought for the G-Men. It would, however, be the final field goal of the game as the Knights held off a late Graham charge to take the 67-63 win. Thomas led Mount View and all scorers with 25 points, while Smith tallied 13 and Edwards 11. Remines paced Graham with 20. Hoosier fired in 11 and Kevin Matthews added 10 for the G-Men. 10. Coach Large if hired will do a good job.He is a hard worker and will put in the time.Go Beavers!
  11. Scott Stevenson 1972 still holds the scoring record at Graham.
  12. Scott Stevenson/ Goose holds the scoring record at Graham. He must make the list.
  13. I went up to see the game last night and was surprised that Graham hung in there as long as they did. Both teams need to work on the foul shooting, and Graham needs to work on the press break. If coack Carlock is smart he will pick Lee Walkers brain and come up with a better method of beating the press because what I saw last night was terrible. The Repass boy is for real and with him in the offense they will be hard to stop.Good effort and good job to both teams, i look forward to watching and cheering both teams on this season!
  14. The Dogs have had a great season , and Bobby Wyatt well if he doesn't get the coach of the year something is terribly wrong. After watching http://www.swvaol.com/forum/images/icons/cool.gif coolBluefield pull it out , anything is possible.Dogs will have to put up at least 28pts and the Defense will have to rise to the occasion.Good luck DOGS,we will see ya Sat.
