East @ Beckley March Regional TBA all in all a good looking schedule, I personally could do without seeing the likes of James Monroe and Pikeview on the schedule, Westside in times past has had its way with Pikeview and really though former Oceana standout Jason Mathis is coaching the Mavs, i dont look for them to much of a challenge for Westside seeing how in a scrimmage back in June Westside cut through them fairly easily I believe if Westside could take the likes of Pikeview and James Monroe off their schedule and add maybe a tough Single A opponet or another good AA opponet and maybe a good Triple A opponet Westside would have a great looking schedule then one thing is for certain, it will be interesting to see how things turn out this season for the Renegades, should WS make it to Charleston again i know teams like Bluefield, Logan, Ravenswood, and Weir wont be no push overs this years squad really does worry me a lil bit though we have a ton of experience from last yrs runner up team coming back still i worry, cause i know Wyo. East will more of a challenge than in yrs before and i really dunno who could step up and be the leader of the team like we will need, when Ryan Maynard and Michael Asbury graduated a few yrs back from WS everyone wondered who would take their place and it would be Robert Repass and Matt Lester, this yr i wonder who will take these guys place those we have returning Forwards Chris Blankenship, Kyle Lusk, Guard Justin Sizemore, Shawn Clark, Scott Roberts, and Marcus Gunter, and then Centers Derick Goodson and possibly the return of Center Aaron Stepp, and the possibile addition of Tyler Davis among a few others the line up looks good on paper, cant wait to see what happens, good or bad this season will be interesting and one i cant wait for to start
  2. if im not mistaken (and i could be) but i believe its simply called Raider Field
  3. you could be right, experience helps out a lot i believe the bluefield squad for this coming season will have a good bit of experience under their belt Westside scrimmaged on Saturday against 3 other teams (Champmanville, James Monroe, and Gilbert) they beat C-ville and JM fairly easy but struggled with Gilbert, beating them only by 6 but i hear Gilbert is gonna be tough, they have a Miller boy (Allen Miller's young brother) that is suppose to be a tough character for them this yr from what i hear whether its the fact that Gilbert was actually that good or whether Westside may have been tired or whatever i dunno, cause i wasnt there however i heard WS gave 110% in each game today and was quick on both ends, shot the ball well, and really hustled against popular belief in Wyo. Co. i believe WS will be just as tough competition if not tougher for Wyo. East this yr in sectionals than last yr but that's just my opinion all in all heard it was an interesting day @ the WS scrimmage i believe the up coming b'ball season will be another interesting one like last yr and am willing to say anybody could end up winning it this yr
  4. yeah BR as we've talked before i was very surprised with how Gilliard played his team against WS, i was really worried about playing them, but when all the beavs did was put up 3 after 3 after 3, i was like wow this is shocking, i believe had Bluefield something more than what they did, they could have kept the game close if not even have won it, i say for you fans sake that Gilliard learns from his mistakes and does better this yr when he gets to states....
  5. that's a pretty good outlook for the bluefield basketball fans for this up coming season i honestly believe should no injuries occur to bluefield during football season or even during basketball season that they will be contenders for the AA title this yr in b'ball does anyone happen to know what the competition that bluefield face was exactly like? i'd say by tehm score they had to be pretty tough anyways b'ball season should be interesting Westside has a basketball scrimmage this Saturday at Westside teams involved are gonna be WS, James Monroe, Gilbert, and C-ville i personally wouldnt have minded to see some other teams rather than Gilbert and Chapmanville but none the less it should be an interesting game come Saturday might be a first glance at what to expect from WS come B'ball season!
  6. hey how about "Westside, The Best Never Rest"
  7. guys as most of you all know im a big Westside fan but i aint dence enough to say Westside doesnt play a weak schedule cause they do i have predicted a possible 8-2 to 10-0 season however should they match up with someone like the Beavs, Weir, or Wayne they will be in trouble in football yes they will have experienced players but what good does it do to have experience if you aint familiar with the "quality" style play of quality teams this is where WS gets hurt at so much in football and i dont see it changing, i would like to see WS drop the teams like Pikeview, Summers Co, and Sissonville and pick up teams like Bluefield, JM, and some other quality team i mean WS would probably get slaughtered but would get them prepaired for the test of the playoffs, should they make it then i really do wish the Renegades the best of luck in football, but cant wait til Basketball, cause i know even if we have another season where we would make it deep into the playoffs it would be considered anohter "fluke" or something c'mon Renegades lets get a better football skd
  8. I believe Bluefield has the chance at being among the top 3 if not one of the top 2 teams in AA b'ball next yr however as things have been pointed out, there is much work for them to do i believe if they can get down some of the things mentioned by posters above then as been said AA better watch out the Bluefield that Westside faced in Charleston was not the Bluefield im use to hearing about and hearing others talk about, i was really disappointed, but i know if they work on these things they will be dangerous i think the CC will be an interesting one this yr with 3 of the best out of AA being involved in it along with Pikeview it should be interesting i just wonder who will end up against who? seems as if both Westside/Bluefield and Wyo. East/Bluefield have a nice rivalry going on could be interesting best of luck to the Beavs next yr!
  9. WOW first off what a state tourney, i didnt get to go down til Thursday morning, but from Thursday all the way through the AA Championship on Saturday my butt was planted in the Charleston Civic Center was ball game on top of ball game i saw some good close games, some games that was already determined before the game started and games that had surprises filled with in them all the way through all in all for my first, of what i hope is many more to come, state tourney trips i totally enjoyed myself as for the games and the most exciting field i think AA won that area, although i said on other sites all along going into the state tourney that AA would be the better field, still though there was some good games in both AAA and A from the first game i saw which pitted Logan taking down Weir to watching Logan take down my beloved Renegades in the AA title game, i loved every mintue of the tourney (except for maybe the way it ended) anyways as for the games the Logan/Weir game had me questioning if all the hype about Weir that i had been reading was really true i mean i really thought they was gonna beat Logan and put Logan out early like Bluefield did last yr but boy was i wrong, right about when i counted Logan out the state tourney MVP (at least IMP) in C.B Green got fired up and netted 25pts against them to lead the Wildcats in a furious charge by the RedRiders to get to the semi-finals as for the next AA game i watched the Winfield/Phillip Barbour game was nothing sort of a surprise to me, i really thought Winfield would come out and destroy them but Mark Summerfield kept it close all the way through, tough player that kid is, still in the end the out come i expected the next AA game would be Bluefield/Braxton i really thought this one would be a lot closer than the final score, but boy was i wrong....Bluefield came out fired up and ready to play and just got it up and got it up quick on the Eagles, when i seen that i told my buddy i was with that this games over, he laughed and said why you think this, i said simply cause you dont get up that quick with out having the determination to finish what ya started and sure enough that's what Bluefield did after the game i told one guy from Braxton that was sitting near us, who obviously was upset with his team, i said, i dunno if its a fact of Bluefield's few having the experience of being in charleston and knowing what its like and Braxton not having that experience or what, but that Thursday night was just not Braxton's night for sure as for the final AA game of the night i watched the Renegades take a very early double digit lead in the first few mins of the 1st qt. against a team (Berkely Springs) that had one of the higher scoring threats in the state on their team and the Renegades never looked back just an incredible display by WS in the game, i told my friend if we played like that all week we'd be going home with a title but him being the negative one he is or the realist he is said it wouldnt happen (guess he knew better than me huh?..lol) anyways on Friday i got to see the 4 teams in AA go against each other that i wanted to see, in the morning/afternoon session you had Logan/Winfield and in the evening you had the Renegades/Beavers the first game was nothing short of thrilling once again C.B. Green proved yet again why he should be state tourney MVP netting 21pts against Winfield leading Logan to a thrill 2OT victory of the defending state champs (guess that shot BR's theory about Winfield being the favorite in the foot huh?..lol...sorry BR...you know i love ya man) in the Renegade/Beaver game, Beavers got just what they asked for when after there victory over Braxton they chanted "We Want Westside" i'll be the first to admit to ya, i was worried about the beavs though, after watching them play a solid but inexperienced tourney team like Braxton and all and knew what kinda schedule they'd played i was worried for the Renegades and at first through the game thought i had real reason to worry when it seemed as if WS couldnt pull away, but then they went into a zone defence and it seemed all but over for Bluefield, i am and was much like everyone when i say i dont understand the idea of throwing up some many dag done three's just didnt make since to me i mean i've heard of stories from BR and other friends of mine of Bluefield Basketball from yrs ago and just knew this wasnt their style....really hated to see the game and the season end for the Beavs like it did...i really thought it would have been closer, only with the same out come of WS winning...lol as for the championship for the AA title what can i say the WS fans cheered, much like Bluefield fans did for us, WS fans cheered "We Want Logan" and no need to say we got Logan i really thought we had a chance at winning the state title and bring the first one back to the Westside of Wyoming Co. since 94, but guess it just wasnt meant to be i honestly believe had WS been able to stop C.B. Green or even slowed him down some that they could have possibly pulled it out, but i guess Logan may have wanted it more, who knows? i know it was a good game to watch but a very disappointing end, at least from my stand point, but as i told many ppl before and after the game its hard to be a good team 3x's in one season, in our two previous meetings with Logan, Westside beat them both times by a final of 56-53, when at Logan it went to 2OT and when at WS we avoided a OT session and just ended the game with that final score so i know whoever would win would win by a single digit score, last time there was ever a blow out between these two rivals was when we faced each other for the first time and WS beat Logan by 30pts, but this was before the Green Bro. era also...since the Green Bros. came to Logan its always been close but i say congratz to Logan and as the old saying goes "there's always next yr" and i have this theory in our first yr Ws got to the first round and was beat out by 5 pts by Keyser, in our 2nd yr as a school we made it to the semifinals to only lose by 1pt to future state champs Winfield, this yr in our 3rd yr as a school we make it to the finals only to bring back a runner up trophy, maybe just maybe in our 4th yr as a school we can go all the way again but this time bring home to gold....guess time will tell a lot of stiffer competition will be out there next yr i believe WS will be among some of the top teams in the state but they will have a tough road to hold to get to Charleston again next yr i believe East will be really really tough in the sectionals and should we be blessed by God enough to get by them, i dont look for Mt. View to roll over for us, cause they gave us a real scare this yr in the first half of the regional game so only time will tell i believe the top AA teams next yr will Logan, Tolsia, Westside, Bluefield, Wyoming East, and possibly Weir with a few others thrown into the mix these are the stand outs for me right now as for the rest of the tourney no real surprise i figured Huntington would win AAA, but was really rooting for Beckley to pull it out and as for Single A, i think most all of us feel the same way on it, its just a Private School Invational that saw Wheeling Central win it for a 4th straight yr, however not without being tested by a pesky Charleston Catholic team Bo King really impressed me out of all the single A players, pretty nice game well these are my thoughts and comments on the tourney feel free to reply if ya want...look forward to football season and especially Dec. when b'ball season rolls back into town until then guess i'll keep checking back in from time to time take care RF oh and before i go one thing i noticed that i found a lil odd well actually two things 1. no stat girl this yr and 2. did everyone notice how that in both the girls and boys b'ball tourney in Single A the no. 1 ranked teams won, in AA the no. 3 ranked teams beat the no. 1 ranked teams, and in AAA the no. 1 ranked teams beat the no. 3 seeds go figure...that's kinda weird....huh?
