  1. well i can honestly tell ya the loss at Logan, goes squarely on the shoulders of Ernie. he pulled the team out of the press and thus allowed Logan to get back into the game. i think Friday night's comeback from WS involved to things, decent defense on WS's part and then the fact that Blfd. was not as aggressive in the 2nd half as they was in the first half. i still think are PG (#21)is the most pitiful PG in the state, he throws the ball away way to many times for my liking but listen Rocks, i gotta head out and get ready for church, i'll talk wth ya more later in the weeks. keep safe man.
  2. i hear ya Rocks, well hopefully the boys will be up for the game. hopefully the tiredness wont make much difference. i just hate that WS/Blfd waited til this yr to start a home and home with one another. i believe the games could have been and would have been more interesting when WS first became a school than what they are now, but there's nothing we can do about it. + i drool at the thought of a Jimmy Hopkins led team against a Danny Gaither led team (Danny was still coachig when WS came about), i belieive they would have been very very interesting. anyways if you come over Saturday maybe we can meet then.
  3. sanctagon, you must be a real die hard Blfd. fan and that's fine, but i must disagree with you on the fact that Westside wasnt getting by with as many walks in the 2nd half as to what Bluefield was, especially their in the 4th qt. i mean dont get me wrong, im not saying because the walks wasnt called we didnt win, what cost WS the game was getting down as big as they did in the 1st qt. and then they fact we didnt shoot the ball well, had WS not allowed themselves to get into such a hole as they did, we wouldnt even be having this conversation. i'm just saying on the officals parts, and i say this about any offical in any game if they are gonna calll it tight in a certain area for one team, then they should call it tight in that same area for the other team, and i would say this no matter who it is playing, i actually said this when Bluefield and Logan played, and the calls that logan got that night Bluefield didnt get to fair of a shake on and i said that it was not right then. anyways Rocks, i did see the dunk that Dexter had, the place came unglued. as for the game next week, i believe it could be abother interesting one, a game that will be determined by single digits and if Westside is able to hit most of their shots, i wouldnt be surprised if they would win. safe travels to all who make it over towards Oceana and that direction.
  4. Rocks, i did not see you. i got at the game late, there was only 4 or 5 mins left in the first qt., Blfd was up 8-1 when i arrived! dunno if you seen me, but i had a white WVU hat and was wearing a baby blue dress shirt. anyways you guys had me really worried when you got up 20 something to 9 after the first. but Westside battled back, whether it was cause Blfd. got less aggressive or Westside stepped up on defence, i'm just glad we was able to get back in the game and make it interesting. in all honesty Bluefield ad East are the front runners in AA with Logan, Weir, WS, Tolisa being dark horses. Dexter Moore is one of the more pure shooters i've seen in awhile and he's just a great PG. as for the comment saying Nick Cook should have gotten T'ed up, i dunno about that cause he was complaining about legit stuff. i mean the same calls that was being made against WS in the 1st qt. (being called for a walk when down with the ball) they was letting Blfd by with in the 4th and yes i know its home court and home court advantage comes into play, but he had legit complaints, among a few other things. its heartbreaking to me that we had a chance at 3 3pt shots to tie the game or possibly win, but couldnt get the shots to go in...but as the saying is, they are all practices until March anyways, but all these close games that WS are losing are about to get the best of me. that aside it was a good game, and i look forward to the battle that will take place at Westside on the 27th (just hope it comes out different!) next up for WS is Logan @ Logan on Monday and Scott @ WS Tuesday Logan lost to Winfield @ Winfield tonight by a final of 79-86 after being down 20 pts at halftime. Logan coach Mark Hatcher made the team lay on the floor all through halftime with basketballs on their chest, apparently it worked as Logan got back within 4pts of Winfield, but the Generals was able to defend home court on this night. Logan is 6-3 as is Westside going into the game Monday night.
  5. i probably could use the directions to blfd. as well as i said i know how to get to Princeton, but never been further south than that.
  6. i need directions to Bluefield State College, for the Westside/Bluefield, should it still happen tomorrow night. i know they are calling for a lot of snow starting Friday morning and all the way trhough Tuesday, if this does happen, not only could Westside's game with Bluefield be in danger of being rescheduled, but so could the Logan game that is scheduled for Monday Jan. 22nd
  7. score was actually 82-76 i really worry about Westside meeting with Bluefield. the talent pool is probably the lowest its been for the Renegades, since the conception of the school. yeah we've got Blankenship and Kyle Lsuk and even Eric Bailey, but our PG is just horrible and Moore will own him in every aspects of the game. if the three i mentioned can do well and get assistance from either Derek Adkins or even Cody Toler, Westside might fair well, but even then i dunno. i mean we barely beat Pikeview, a team that both Wyoming East (on two occassions already) and Bluefield has blown out of the water. so if determining how one game is gonna go, by looking at the scores of the Westside/PV and Bluefield/PV games, then the Westside/Blfd game will be a no contest. still hope the Renegades does/represent well.
  8. well the reason they keep on rolling is cause of the competition they are facing. as for the first team to knock them off, i think it could be JM or Tolsia, as Wyoming East has to travel to a very hostile enviroment that is known as Tolsia, and Tolsia is not the same team they was at the early part of Dec. if neither of those teams i think the only other teams that stand anywhere near a slight chance would be Westside or Lincoln.
  9. wow, seems as if Blfd keeps reloading, as one set of "stars" go out, a new breed comes in! things look as good for Blfd's future as it does the likes of Logan and even Wyo. East. any chance of Bluefield adding Wyoming East to their skd. in the future? wow that would be one of the more dominant southern AA skds playing teams like Logan, Westside, and Wyoming East twice, along with the likes of Mount View among others. would be pretty nice to see that.
  10. in AA i pick James Monroe and Wyoming East for the championship final. and think Hedgesville and Gilbertare the favorites for AAA and Single A btw anyone have any idea what the cost of tickets are? i might try and go up Tuesday evening and catch the two boys games.
  11. well two things gave the game away at Logan. no. 1 Bluefield came out of the full court pressure. no. 2 the officals missed/over looked a walk and two fouls at the end of the game. either way on paper and on a neutral site, Bluefield is the better team in all honesty and as far as the game with Wyoming East, had East made all their foul shots they could have easily won by 10-12 points if not more, so again for East is a thing of making their foul shots
  12. maybe Wyoming East has more than one weakness, i still believe one of East's big weakness is coaching, however maybe they are showing that they have another weakness, failure to perform in big game/pressure situations. what i mean by that is not making the simple baskets from the foul line. in some of their recent "bigger" games East has went 12-28 at the line against Logan, 22-35 against Westside, and i dont remember how they did from the charity stripe against Ravenswood, but i know its wasnt that great either. in the words of Wyo. East coach Jesse Lester "It doesn’t matter if it’s a state-ranked team or anybody else, 12-for-28 is going to have you in a lot of games where you may lose" so maybe this is the key to beating Wyo. East? make them shoot from the line....who knows? aside from this, it speaks volumes to me of how Logan was able to knock off Bluefield last week and had a 5pt lead going into the final minute of the game @ Wyo. East to only blow it, but i think that's cause of inexperience and not knowing how to finish out the victory. IMO Logan has nothing to hold their heads about, going into an atmosphere that is as bad if not worst than the Logan atmosphere and able to almost cause another upset Saturday through out AA, speaks volumes for this young squad. if you're a Logan fan you have to love the future and if you are not a Logan fan, you have to dread it, cause Logan starts 3 sophomores and many of the bench players are underclassmen as well.
  13. wow, that's a pretty amazing story there. especially in the fact that Van nor Big Creek is two teams you ever really hear much about in the world of sports message boards or even in the world of sports itself. i actually almost forgot both schools still had basketball programs, lol. how soon is a deal to be made on the construction of the Homer Hickom (sp?) High School, that will bring Big Creek and Iaeger together in consolidation and when is the school expected to be open?
  14. well its as i said over on your site BR "my hats off to Jason Mathis" i mean i think its just incredible what he's done with a team/school who was never really known for its basketball talent. i mean i always knew Jason was a special kind of player, when he played at Oceana, but never really knew how he'd do as a coach, ya know? but he has succeeded all expectations IMO, Wyo. Co. and Oceana/Jim Hopkins and Larry Mathis (Jasons dad) in general should be proud of ol Jaybird. i think the only way it could be or get any better is if Jason was coaching somewhere like Westside, lol. but i do i congradulate Jason on what he's accomplished at JM and wish him nothing but continued success.
  15. i'd be willing to say if im not able to car pool with someone to the game, that i will have to get directions. i know how to get to Princeton real well, but never had to go any further south, unless going out of state. i went to Graham, VA and watched Westside/Graham in Westside's first or second yr of existance, but couldnt remember how to get their if my life depended out. so as i said if i'm not able to car pool with someone, i'll more than likely be asking for the directions.
  16. well here is hoping they have that mind set next week against Westside, the young Renegades need a confidence booster via a win over one of the bigger boys of AA, oi course i know it wont be and that Bluefield will be more than up and ready for this game, if nothing else to take the loss to Logan out against another top 5 team in AA themselves. none the less i look forward to the game and the trip. might need to get directions to the BSC, i've never been there! came down to Bluefield once, to the semifinal Blfd/WS football game, but didnt drive, thus didnt pay attention to how we got there. anyways, i look for Blfd. to take the game. if nothing else on the fact they have a lot better PG than what WS could ever dream of having.
  17. i know you didnt say MV would beat East, i just stated dont expect the upset. and trust me when i tell ya, East has speed too. i've seen East play on 3 occassions now. against Tolsia, Ravenswood, and Westside, their speed off of defensive pressure turnovers is pretty good. I've seen Mount View play Mountain State Academy and Westside, in the MSA game they had the speed, in spots here and there against Westside they had the speed. Cordero High didnt do much in the MSA game only had 5pts, if that. Against Westside he done a bit better, but didnt perform to his ability. its as you said its all about team ball for them, as i said i seen it against MSA but not against Westside. as i said, should be interesting to see what comes out of this game.
  18. to answer Rocks question about Mount View. On the two occassions i seen them play, on one night they looked like a team that could hang with the big boys of AA (Bluefield, Wyo. East, etc.) and it made me wonder how they could lose to a Single A school like Greater Beckley Christian and struggle with the likes of Buffalo, but then i seen them on the very next night and i understood how. in essence they are your typical Mount View team. they have some decent talent, could probably go about 7 deep right now, the players on the MV team that stand out are; Cordero High, Deontae Baker, Thomas Bell, Bo Horton, Cory Hale, C.J. Wiseman, and Eric Smith. thw two games i seen Mount View play in was in the Holiday Tourney at Westside, the first night they played Mountain State Academy beating them 73-50 and then the next night against Westside defeating the Renegades for a 2nd straight time (going back to the regional game) by a final of 41-40. in the second game, it wasnt as much of a defensive struggle as it was a game of who could put the ball in the goal, cause it was definetly a night where it seemed like neither team could put one in the ocean. it's notebale that Westside was without one of their leaders, in Chris Blankenship, as his baby had just been born over the holidays. as for how MV is ranked, they didnt even make the others list in the first offical polls of the basketball season. and as for saying Mount View will pull out the upset against Wyoming East, dont be so sure on that, yes Mount View might beat Wyo. East in the athletic department, but East can match MV's speed. and as it was stated East has MV in the experience department, but right now if East has one flaw or weakness i believe it is their coach, Jesse Lester is just not a good coach, who makes to many bone head mistakes and has costed more than 1 team sectional or regional losses in his tenure as a coach. i honestly believe should the MV team that showed up against MSA would show up against Wyo. East that the game should be kept close, but if the MV team that played Westside shows up against Wyo. East, it could be a very ugly game. one thing is for certain it should be a interesting preview to what i strongly feel should be a regional matchup in the same building come March.
  19. if they lose to anyone, i say it will be Grafton or Bridgeport, Magnolia isnt as great as in times past, a possible contender in their region with Weir being up and down at times, but still if Lincoln loses to anyone it will be one or both of those teams (Grafton/Bridgeport)
  20. unless Logan has some other sort of Saturday Shocker/Surprise/Miracle in them, they should lose to Wyo. East as they battle one another on the 13th @ Wyo. East. it is very possible that both Wyo. East and Lincoln could be undefeated or at least have 1 loss come time for their match up with one another on 02/17/07 @ Wyo. East. noteable teams that East faces before that match up Logan 01/13/07 @ Home Tolsia 01/27/07 Away (could revenge be a factor?) Mount View 1/30/07 CC (this is Wyo. East/Mount Views only meeting in the regular season) and Westside 02/09/07 @ Home noteable teams Lincoln plays before that game... Bridgeport 01/23/07 @ Home Grafton 01/25/07 Away Magnolia 01/27/07 Away Robert C. Byrd 02/01/07 @ home Grafton 02/06/07 @ home Magnolia 02/09/07 @ home Bridgeport 02/13/07 Away Robert C. Byrd 02/15/07 Away should be interesting to see how things turn out. i believe everyone in AA will have at least two losses before tourney time. * CC = Coal Classic
  21. [ QUOTE ] He's just tryin to make the point that what happened the first game doesn't gurantee anything in the 2nd. [/ QUOTE ] well put TaX, that is exactly what im saying, and Rocks i get that you guys beat Graham by 30pts, but i can bout gurantee you aint no other head coach gonna abandon his team on a night they play someone, especially a rival to go watch another team play. but as the saying is, to each his own, i almost gurantee Danny would have never done that though!
  22. well i was just curious, most coaches sends a few coaches or folks who are close to the program who they can trust with info and what not, to scout a team.... especially when their team is playig on the same night, kinda makes me scratch my head at the fact he was at the game with Graham. as Grundy said he was hired and is payed to do a job and to miss a game to scout another team just makes me wonder some things about Gillard.
  23. "We blew a 6 point lead...If we lose, we deserve it" not toally true, yes Blfd's coach took them out of a very effective full court press that had Logan dazed and confused, but the officiating helped Logan secure the 1pt win as well i mean the officals gave Logan control of the ball after callling a backcourt violation after an inbounds pass to Moore, some how they made it as if Dexter touched the ball before going backwards with it when he did not. in the final seconds before Logan's player would score the winning basket, he would come up the floor, stop and take three or four steps before dribbling the ball again and no walk was called! the officiating was even tanted in the JV game, as a matter of fact one of the officals for the JV game was an assistant coach on the Logan softball team!!! so to say you deserved to lose, may be a little harsh. ___________________________________________________________ "Not to logan...Because now i have to hear the Wyoming East fans talk about why they deserve the #1 spot now because we lost...Damn you graham, its your fault... I think if we would have been fully rested. We probply could have pulled this game off by 5-10 points easily." in all hoensty WE will probably become the new no. 1 in AA, with Bluefield falling to no. 2 or no. 3. although i know you was/are being sarcastic with the comment to Graham, you cant blame them that much, Logan had a game the previous night as well against rival Chapmanville in small/cramped/hot gym. but i do believe like you on a neutral court or even at your place you will beat Logan by double digits __________________________________________________________ "Didnt Logan lose earlier in the week to somebody??" Nope, Logan is 6-0 now. ____________________________________________________________ and i'm like BR i think back to back games help prepair your team to know how/what to expect come Tourney time. Blfd will be ok, as its done and been said let Wyo. East go ahead and take the no. 1 ranking for now, as i've been saying for sometime, i believe Blfd/W.E. are on a collision course with one another and it should come to ahead in Charleston come March!
  24. i was at the Blfd/Logan game and set close near Westside's coach Nick Cook as the game took place, Wyo. East sat a few seats over from us, their coaches/players/fans or parents was all huddled together. either way i never seen that happen, although i didnt really pay much attention to what took place around me cause i was more interested in the game, lol. not saying it didt happen, but i never noticed anything of that sort. i know East seemed pretty happy that Bluefield lost to Logan, they was giving high 5's to one another and all sorts of different things. i know right now its seems like Bluefield and Wyo. East are like the two trains leaving from two different stations at two differents times on a collision course with one another. Very tanted victory for Logan, but they got the win. i sure wish Wyo. East and Bluefield had scheudled one another for this season, would have made for one whale of a game! and just curious but if Bluefield/Graham had a game Friday, why was Gillard @ Westside/Wyo. East instead of the Bluefield/Graham game?
  25. seeing how Woodrow joined the MSAC conference it would make it hard, seeing how they make sure each team plays the other thats within the conference, but i agree i miss the Blfd/WWHS games, i only seen one myself, but enjoyed reading the many stories i read on them im sure the Blfd/WS games will prove interesting, as good as the Blfd/Logan games from last season. Hopefully they will continue the home and home games for many moons to come!
