I played in that gave vs TV (great game by the way), it was '02 and Britt Coleman was a brute, hard to stop and we werent ready for him. St. Pauls fields about as many players as TV or anyother small school in SWVA and have been more successful than most, IMO proof of Palmers coaching ability. With some work and a little time PH can be competitive in the HOGO, Wythe and Chilhowie are pretty good but Holston, Northwood and Rural Retreat are well within reach. 7-3 most seasons is an achieveable goal w/ an up or down season occasionally

Good, consistant coaching at those places. Parents from Pound drive their kids to PV? Thats a long trip when JJK, JIB and Clintwood are much closer. The FB from Clintwood is from LB isint he?

It seems like they only have 1 quality back, but they do have some size. I really think they need a coach who knows something about offense, the ones they have had seem to either run schemes that dont match their talent or oversimplify things. I dont think TV has and a team since their first capeable of beating Haysi or Honaker but they have had some that could beat Hurley and should have finished w/ better records than they did. The potiental is their, but then again I am an optimist. The Baldwin kid played TE too, I dont think they really tried to throw to him. Imagine covering a 6'7" TE on a quick seam pass!

TV had one good season. They could have been pretty good but their talent was misused IMO. Their backup RB could literally play any position on the field and he only came in on Offense to spell Coleman. They had no passing game and no other running threat but Coleman and JC would have been a fine QB. Would have gave them a passing threat and another running threat.

If they could get a coach to stay around for 5-6 years they could be successful, but it is a hard situation at LB but not impossible. Last I heard BI was looking for a change of scenery but thats been a few months ago. With WC consolidation the JJK/Pound school could be pretty good in football. The Balthis kid from LB last season was a very good RB but didnt have alot around him. Doensnt LB have another good RB, maybe a Fresh or Soph?

I dont mean that LB should win the LPD but Kelly, PV and Appy havent been world beaters and Pound couldnt compete. Pound should have really moved to the Cumberland or the BDD, but like you said it wont matter after this year. I dont think the VHS job is a bad one, lots of talent to work with, very possible for them to be competitive in the CMD every year and occasionally win

TV hasnt been too successful against the cumberland teams either. I dont know about triple reverse passes but theres nothing wrong with running a wide open offense

The sad thing is Pound has had size on the line and talent in the backfield. The problem is they have a football team and not a program, the weightlifting program is pitiful if not nonexistent.

I read an article a year or so ago from a newspaper around Richmond(I think?) it talked about how the Eagle mascot was the most popular among newly formed schools(consolidations or new openings). Patriotic school names were also popular i.e. Independence, liberty, etc. I despise conformanity, be original I think the most popular mascots are Eagles, Bulldogs and Tigers; all cool but overused. Our area is pretty diverse in terms of mascot usage and color combinations(now anyways) Cyclones is a pretty cool mascot IMO Where did War Eagles come from? Why not just Eagles?

Rumor is BI wants off of the reservation, so maybe It just seems to me that Thurmans offensive approach lends itself to having alot of talent, he does get the most out of that talent. VHS had some really good players it just never seemed to come together

Still some colors missing and a few mascots so obviously consolidation is not a big deal and definitely isint anything new to SWVA. A lot of the "consolidated" schools in this area arent thought of as consolidated at all. Lee high is pointed to as how bad consolidation can be and the people of Lee Co seem to be split on that. Powell Valley is a great example of how well it can go, the two schools were close together so that definitely helped but I really think it is all about how the communities approach the issue Is it just me or are the mascots Bulldog and Eagles really popular?

Just looking for everyones opnions but is he really as good of a coach as his record looks? Or is his success a product of great talent? Not trying to degrade the guy or anything like that just wondering

Anyone know anything about the following, Has Tazewell Co always been Tazewell, Richlands, Graham and Pocahontas? Has Scott County always been Rye Cove, Twin Springs and Gate City? Has Russell Co always been Honaker, Lebanon and Castlewood? Has Wythe Co always been George Wythe, Rural Retreat and Fort Chiswell? Have Bland/Rocky Gap always played sports as Bland County? Carroll Co was Hillsville HS and Woodlawn HS, any idea on mascots and colors? I have some other holes still not filled in regard to mascots/colors but I will put the missing stuff up later(when I get it organized lol). Does anyone else find this as interesting as I do?

I like the Navy and White, im just not a fan of light blue as a primary color. Silvers not bad w/ Navy either but I like Royal and Silver better

I really dont see as how it matters if Palmer was the 1st of the 10th choice, he is a D@MN good coach and is an excellent choice for PH. PH will probably run a multiple I formation offense w/ basic blocking schemes and throw the ball around a little. Expect good things and before anything is said I do not know Palmer and have never met the man

speaking of color changes, Coeburn went w/ light blue one year which I find kinda odd considering they REALLY dislike Powell Valley and thats PV primary color. Back in the day Haysi used blue/white w/ very little red, now its all red and little blue(none for the football team). Haysi has started using a little black and I absolutely hate it, stick to traditional colors and if the one that is the primary changes so be it. Hurley made a good choice sticking w/ the Navy/Red/Silver, its sharp Wiki says F-C middle school Cavalier Purple/Orange

Wiki says Laurel Park Middle school - lancers Powder Blue / Red im assuming that went for the former LPHS as well. Was Fieldale-Collinsville a consolidated school?

What school did they become? And colors and mascots for GWC and DM? Laurel Park?

Henry county is about as far East as I was in terested in. Lets try to keep it no farther East than the Roanoke area. What about Giles? Was it always Giles?

Where were GW Carver and Drewry Mason located and what became of them? Closed or consolidated and what schools did they merge with?
