The bottom line is that the player using the illegal bat was cheating and he got caught. That player knew he was using an illegal bat and that is something you can't deny. I know that any high school coach...including the Carroll County coach.....would bring it to the attention of the umpire if an opposing player was using a bat that was illegal because of the competitive advantage it would give the opposition. Plus, the reason those bats are illegal is because of the dangerous exit speed of the balls coming off the bats. There have been so many injuries to pitchers from those bats that they are no longer allowed to be used. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Just get over it!

actually, according to my son, it has to be bbcor certified.....besr composite bats are illegal. But, the question that I asked you that you still haven't responded to is do you really believe the kid didn't know that he was using an illegal bat?? Does anyone think the kid didn't know he was using an illegal bat?? I googled the vhsl bat rule and found this interesting info below which supports the point that the umpire inspection has nothing to do with anything. 56-1-3 (Baseball) Pregame Equipment Inspection- It is the responsibility of member schools to verify that any equipment used by a player meets the quality and technical inspection standards dictated by NFHS and VHSL rule. While the NFHS rule book requires the umpires to check equipment before the game the burden for compliance rests with the member school. Student/athletes who participate using illegal equipment shall be ejected from that game and suspended for the next two games. Stop making excuses!!

Hmm.....So the kid was using an illegal bat and got caught and it's the umpire's fault because the umpire may have missed it in the pregame equipment check?? Seriously?? Do you really not believe the kid knew he was using an illegal composite bat?? I was listening to the game on the radio and when that particular pitch was hit it sounded really strange. Those composite bats make a different sound. But, I gotta believe that there is no way in the world that the kid didn't know he was using a composite bat. There is a reason those bats are illegal!

did anyone hear what they've decided to do with the SWD baseball schedule??? I haven't heard anything about it either way. thanks in advance!

according to the bristol paper abingdon has 9 district wins.....and i think tazewell has 6 wins...w/no losses. how could one of those 2 teams not be the champion of the district? why would teams with 4 or 5 or 9 losses have a new chance to win the district?? where is the logic??

do what??? that makes no sensse at all to have a tournament to decide the regular season when 2 teams are undefeated. how could that be fair to the two teams?? to my knowlege it seems that everyone in the district has 4 or more losses.....while Tazewell and Abingdon have not lost. Why would teams with 4 or more losses have a shot at being the district champion. How many district games has abingdon and tazewell won?? that just seems crazy, but that sounds like something the SWD would do!!

abingdon is young, but pretty darn good. They have pitching. As for Tazewell, they beat Richlands in the Coppinger...but haven't played a district game with them yet. It should be a wild two weeks in the SWD, but I think Abingdon and Tazewell are the only unbeatens left in district play....they should play this week...I think.

Tazewel, Richlands, Abingdon, and Carroll County should all be in the hunt. I think this is one of the strongest districts around. Big Lou has alot of good players...Richlands is good....Abingdon has played well....and Carroll County is always going to be in the hunt. Way too early to pick a favorite...but it should be interesting!!! Not to change the subject, but which team in the SWD do you guys think has the best field. Some guys at work were debating this one.

Actually you're wrong. The error you're talking about took place after the Falcons had scored 4 earned runs....all w/2 outs. I was listening on the radio. It sounded like Richlands did not play their best, but i could hear the ping of the bats over the radio...apparently they hit 4 or 5 rockets and shook up Keene.

The race for the SWD title will be a close one for sure. Lou had a young group last year and they've obviously developed quickly...Carroll is solid and Richlands and Abingdon are always tough. Looks like an exciting year for SWD baseball...Hey Tax...give us some details of the game!

im curious...ask the kids that play for graham who the better pitcher is...Malone or Barnett...id be curious to hear their response!!

Justin Malone was 2nd team all state last year and was also the shortstop in the commonwealth games this summer and I dont remember any kids from Richlands making that team. Justin is a stand out pitcher, but he was recruited as a shortstop. The Barnett kid is solid and he had a good season last year, but there is no question that the Malone kid is a more complete player!! I guess we'll see, but I do think it will be an interesting baseball season. Tazewell is a team to look out for too...Lou had a young club and I expect big things from the Dawgs!

He sure has done a great job!! It's especially nice because he is such an outstanding young man with excellent character and faith. It's great to see a coach doing things the right way and reaping the benefits of his labor!! Holston is lucky to have him!!

yea, from all ive heard, worrell was a heck of a man. his son is doing a heck of job at grayson. apples dont fall far from the tree!

well, i wasnt sure if they counted or not..so, in my boredom i checked on the online vhsl handbook..here's what i found: 54-6-1 Scrimmages-A scrimmage is a practice session between two or among three organized teams, or between groups of players representing their respective teams, or between one organized team and a group of players from another organized team which is representing its team in play. 54-6-2 Member schools are prohibited from participating in, or allowing their teams or players representing the teams to participate in, more than two scrimmages in any sport. So, yea, it does sound like to me...that if you were "just practicing" together that it would also be considered a scrimmage.....im starting to wonder if they really did just scrimmage, but use the ole "hey, we're just practicing together" line...but, even if they did that, it sounds like a violation. I think its stupid that the VHSL only allows 2 scrimmages, but i dont think it would be fair for any team to ignore that dumb rule, while other schools in the region actually honor the rule. what are your thoughts??

man, thats a serious claim right there...if that could be confirmed then they've violated VHSL rules...The coaching staff at VHS run a solid program and I don't see them cheating, but I guess if they scrimmaged those teams I would bet the other teams in their region wouldn't be too happy. But, at this point its pure speculation. But, I guess, all anyone would need to do is call the schools that you guys claimed have played them. I just hope this isnt someone starting rumors. But, if they're cheating they need to be called out on it. I hope its not true!

yea, thats what i figured..i hate when people get on here and claim crazy stuff...so, mister YOU KNOW WHO..name the 5 teams the Cats have scrimmaged. Bet you can't do it!!! I bet there's only 2!!!
