  1. [ QUOTE ] I've got something you can "suck up" on! LOL You playing tomorrow? I guess I'll be there. We've decided not to go to Klempson...going to my cousin's wedding Saturday afternoon (4:30) instead. Hoping for a short wedding and an open bar at the reception...I have more pressing matters in the evening and several good (free) stiff drinks might be the ticket for enduring it!!! LOL At least I'll get to see most/all of the UF/LSU game Saturday night... [/ QUOTE ] See you there! We will need all the alcohol we can get if we are going to watch Tech play as they have all season! haha
  2. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] No. A GOOD leader would trust the advice given to them by the people under them, or at least take it into consideration...Akers did neither...she wanted Havens to get the job so he got it... [/ QUOTE ] The hiring is total BS. They are denying opportunites to great people in this area just because they dont have an education degree?? The position is Head COACH for BHS not english teacher at BHS. What about students who want to major in Athletic Coaching...do they have to go to grad school for education just to be a candidate for any position around here? The same goes with being an athletic director. Akers has screwed Bluefield over in more than one way. I could be wrong but I would say that out of all the Mercer County schools that Bluefield basketball brings in the most revenue but we still have to play in an outdated gym while everyone else has nice places. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly right. Bluefield gets shafted on just about every end of any deal that runs through Princeton. Basketball is a great example. Bluefield is the only team in the county that competes at the state tournament regularly. Their gym had a leak in the ceiling a year or two ago, and all they did was patch it. The EXACT same thing happened to Princeton's gym and they get a brand new floor. If it weren't for June Shott then Princeton would be the only school in the county with brand new turf on their football field.
  3. [ QUOTE ] Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me. [/ QUOTE ] If you believe that Dr. Akers an honest person who puts Mercer County and its issues before herself.
  4. It is possible that they are going through the court process out of county because one and/or both parties possibly think their chances are higher of getting a more fair trial if they are out of their discrict. Moving the trial to a place where most people are not as familiar with the whole situation and do not know the plaintiffs or defendents personally would decrease bias in the courtroom.
  5. [ QUOTE ] I agree if one can do it everybody should be able too. But I suppose anything that Dr. Akers does she seems to think is justified for the best interest of the kids. You want Turner to make a hire that you and him think is in the best interest of the kids. So you are really saying that you agree in principal with Dr. Akers reasoning, just not with her choices. [/ QUOTE ] No I do not agree with anything that she does. She is just abusing her power.
  6. [ QUOTE ] I am not here to defend Dr. Akers but how can you people talk trash about her hiring practices when you want Turner to be able to do the same thing, ignore the protocal and hire whom he wants. [/ QUOTE ] If one can do it, then all should be able to. But as written in the MC codes it is "forbidden", yet he/she can do whatever they want.
  7. [ QUOTE ] You hear all kinds of stories like this, and the state of WV and the MCBOE wonders why we are so below average on the standards on the scholastic criteria that we are supposed to meeting. [/ QUOTE ] And with my terrible typing, I am making it look even worse! haha
  8. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] How about that halftime show UVA put on when they played WVU a couple year back.. That is very classy I must say. My experience..UVA fans are snob B's. No wonder eer fans are on your top!. [/ QUOTE ] Mountaineer fans are at the top of the list with just about every school they come in contact with. [/ QUOTE ] What about fans who have had pleasant experiences at Mountaineer Field?? They must be lying. [/ QUOTE ] I just stated a fact. Name one school that actually likes to go to Morgantown to play a football game. You can go to Morgantown and have a good time.. IF you wear something blue and gold. Most of the Jersey kids and the others from up north are the ones who really give WVU the bad rap. I have many friends that attend and/or graduated from there and they are good people. They are just overshadowed by the obnoxious, arrogant people from the north. The place has lots of positive things going for it, but they are overshadowed by the negative ones and brought to national attention. [/ QUOTE ] You are right...there are a lot of douche bags from jersey that cause trouble but look at SOurces statement about being from West Virginia. You can't label an entire fanbase by a few idiots. I read the WVU message board pretty often and I know of many instances where fans from other teams posted saying they had a great time while they were at Morgantown and that the fans were great. Some even talked about how they were invited to WVU tailgates. [/ QUOTE ] Speaking of Jersey kids and WVU, I'm sure you have seen the video on YouTube where the kids from WV are making fun of the Jersey kids. It is all over here at Marshall, and everyone loves it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=4JMOh-cul6M DO NOT WATCH IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED BY BAD LANGUAGE. But other than that, it is a good representation of all the Jersey kids at WVU. haha

  12. [ QUOTE ] And I have a story to tell later about how the hiring process of the Mercer County B.O.E., experience over everything else, screwed the best teacher I ever had out of a job and replaced him with an incompetent teacher. [/ QUOTE ] I do not doubt that at all. Dr. Akers is about as slick as you can get. When you get "initiated" into her clan, then you are a member for life. Princeton High School has a faculty that has been picked and chosen. No other school can honestly pick and choose who they want as a teacher, but when Mr. Dr. Akers got the principal job at PSHS his crew from Bluefield Middle has slowly, but surely, taken reigns at his new place. It is like a cult society.
  13. [ QUOTE ] BHS has no tradition as a basketbell school. A couple of kids had a bit of game so Bluefield thinks they deserve the last 4. [/ QUOTE ] As I have said earlier, I guess a couple of the kids who had game the last couple of years didn't impress you all with the dunks, the defense, and the double digit wins against you all did they?
  14. [ QUOTE ] From what I've been told Webster, Willie Ellison, and stat-man John Hess plan to resign their position in protest of the decision. It's absolute crap that the morons at the B.O.E. have such an outdated hiring process. The job shouldn't go to someone just b/c they have tenture over someone else, the job should go to the best person possible. If the school's administration recommends someone for a position the school board should okay the hire. Of course, the Mercer County B.O.E. is just a bunch of envious Princeton people trying to screw over Bluefield. It has happened time and time again in the past 15 years and continues to happen. I have been told also that a Havens' hire would possibly bring Gaither back as an assistant. [/ QUOTE ] The Mercer County B.O.E. is like a communist government. The dictatorship of the "Akers elite" makes me sick to my stomach.
  15. [ QUOTE ] What happened to Havens being the head coach and Gaither being the asst. coach? [/ QUOTE ] That is what Bluefield_Rules is saying. If Havens gets the job, then Gaither could possibly be the assistant coach.
  16. [ QUOTE ] UK will win the SEC east. Go Cats. [/ QUOTE ] Sure, and Marshall will win the C-USA. Go Herd.
  17. [ QUOTE ] it's kinda hard to find 10 schools who are fairly local schools and are talented. plus rome wasn't built in a day. we have consistently been improving our schedule. over the past few years we have dropped teams like Richwood, Summers, Pocahontas, as well as a couple Single A teams. i guess that people have to find something to criticize us about. thoughjavascript:void(0) [/ QUOTE ] It's not that Bluefield fans are criticizing.. They are just stating the obvious facts that James Monroe plays a weak schedule.
  18. [ QUOTE ] Who does Tech play next week? [/ QUOTE ] @ Clemson
  19. No matter how hard Tyrod tries he can never be as bad as Sean Glennon!
  20. I have been saying it all along ever since the beginning of the season. I called it, but WVU fans thought I was crazy.
  21. Bluefield High soccer always had contact. That is why we always played. If it wasn't a rough game we always tried to make it that way. haha Like the time we played at Shady Spring and the game was called with about 11 minutes left to play due to a fight that involved both benches being cleared! Ahh, those were the days!
  22. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Someone from James Monroe is trying to give advice on basketball? Laughable. Let me give JM some advice, stop modeling your basketball program after the look and style of the movie Hoosiers. [/ QUOTE ] RUN THE PICKETT FENCE!!! haha [/ QUOTE ] I do have to admit though, the lines James Monroe gets into to practice bounce passes and chest passes they do in warm ups before the game is just textbook.
  23. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I don't take much stock in j.v. outcomes...some teams use their 10th graders, some don't... It's hard to judge upcoming talent by scores of these games. [/ QUOTE ] That's true...a bunch of 10th graders beat the defending State Champions last Friday night... [/ QUOTE ] No, that team has moved on they beat a very good Richlands team but not the State Champions. [/ QUOTE ] No matter how many players they lose they are still state champions until this year when someone else wins.
  24. [ QUOTE ] Hey schoolmarm. Don't be decieved by sheeps in lambs clothing. The teams from the past 4 years have been real real real good. To be or not to be this was and is the question. State Title, sorry they didn't deserve it. As a matter of fact with the last coach they went farther than they should have. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah I guess you are right. After all, they didn't beat James Monroe bad enough to be state champs. The only reason they were remotely close games were because of coaching, or lack thereof. Anyone who knows anything about basketball would defintely agree, also. Bluefield overmatched just about every one they played at every positon, with the exception of coaching, and to say they that the last coach took the team farther than they should have been just shows your ignorance.
  25. This year's team will still be very competitive with the talent level of Ansel Ponder and Craig Ponder, Shaun Brooks, Turquan Casey, Marcus Patterson, and some others. They won't have the true basketball skill for the most part as did last year's team, but they are still every bit as athletic. They should still be better than most AA teams in the state.
