Was this AAA Patrick Henry from Roanoke?

Bulldogs did well considering that PH was undefeated and already had two games under their belt, while Martinsville has only practiced for one week with their full team. Five of the varsity players just finished football, including 3 first team All Region IV players Snook Hairston (RB), Tracey Hairston (DB), and J.D. Tyree (DE).

Va Preps came out with the AA state rankings and Martinsville was 1st. Hidden Valley was ranked 3rd. Magna Vista, Heritage, and Liberty Bedford all were in the top 25.

Halifax was a playoff team in AAA, and lost a close game. They are far from below average. Martinsville did not lose by more than 7 points the whole season. The Graham Martinsville game was not that close and we killed Carroll playing every player on our team! Good luck Basset. Congrats on a great season!!!!

Amazing. The rivalry is going to be unbelievably intense! I absolutely can not wait until 1pm Saturday for this showdown. You never know what to expect when these two teams meet in any sport. Congrats to both teams on a great season. I am sure all us fans will get more than our money's worth at this game. I will only hate to see one teams seniors play their final game. The PD players have proven how much athletic talent exsits in our little part of the state!

No homefield ref magic on this game. Martinsville dominated despite being penalized 100 yards! The refs seemed a little quick on the delay of game calls, but otherwise it was a very fairly called game.

27 Martinsville 14 Carrol

I hope this gets posted in the Bulldog lockeroom. If you honestly think there is a player on the MHS team afraid, you are sadly mistaken! Believe me, there will be plenty of mud left on the field Saturday to rub your face in! The field is a pool and to keep any player from getting hurt. the school wisely postponed the game one more day.

There is a great pool of coaches already on staff. As a parent I hope they stay within that group or pick someone that is a good fit with them. I have an enormous amount of respect for the coaching at MHS. These gentlemen have worked very hard to make each of these players perform to their highest level. I have kept my son at MHS because of the coaching he has received there in football and basketball. It is nice to be at a school where the coaches get along and help instill a team atmosphere. Any of the names listed above would do an excellent job, and would have the supportof the parents!

Is Carrol strong offensively or defensively? What part of their game do you see as better then Martinsville's?

Magna Vista will definitely beat Dan River and Basset can not get enough points to move from 4th seed, so that leaves Carrol and Martinsville to play in the first round of play offs. How do you think the game will play out? It wil most likely be played at Martinsville. Does the Carrol crowd travel well? I know Martinsville has been having great turnout since the team has gone undefeated thus far in the district. Martinsville still has a huge game against Basset on Friday. Looks to be some exciting football over the next few weeks!

At this point it looks like it's going to be too close to call numerically whether Carrol or Martinsville will be ranked 2nd in power points if Carrol would upset Graham and Martinsville wins out their next two games. This is big because it will determine which of the two teams has homefield advantage. First I thought it was Martinsville, then it looked like it would be Carrol, now it's a complete toss up!

I stand corrected, when I add up the numbers Carrol would have 193 if they beat Graham, and that would be enough for home field advantage.

Right now Magna Vista is 1st, Martinsville 2nd, Carrol 3rd, and Basset 4th based on the latest VHSL averages. Even if they beat Graham, Magna Vista and /or Martinsville would have to self destruct for much to change. It looks like these will be the four playoff teams in R4 D4.Home field advantage will go to 1&2. If things stay the same, Magna Vista will play Basset and Martinsville will play Carrol in the first game of playoffs. Anything could happen, but this probably represents the most likely senerio.

What a rivalry between Basset and Martinsville in football and basketball. Last year Martinsville had a heart breaking loss in the football playoffs to Basset and then the two teams had to turn around and play 5 times in basketball with the two teams final game in the state semi finals. That time it was a heart breaking loss for Basset. Alot of the basketball players were also football players so the competition was intense. I expect nothing less when Martinsville and Basset meet again, and possibly again!
