  1. Abingdon HS is hosting a 7on7 Tournament and BigMan Competition on July 14th. So far the following teams are confirmed: From Virginia- Abingdon Richlands Holston Christiansburg Radford Galax James River Thomas Walker Battle From Tennessee- Elizabethton Dobyns-Bennett (2 teams) Tennessee Volunteer Cloudland West Greene North Greene
  2. Elizabethton, Magna Vista, Martinsville, Radford, and Richlands to name a few.
  3. Abingdon HS is hosting a free 7 on 7 tournament and linemen competition on Wed June 18. Teams from Johnson City to Roanoke are signed up and we only have a few spots left. If interested contact Adam Ferris at (276) 739-3200 or email at aferris@wcs.k12.va.us
  4. I'm glad to hear the players are lifting, but the program needs a head coach. I don't understand what is taking so long.
  5. Are the players currently lifting? Is equipment being ordered? Are fund raisers being scheduled? Are assistant coaches being hired? I would bet "no" is the answer to all of the above. The longer they put off selecting a head coach, the further they get behind.
  6. [ QUOTE ] Top 5 Sanders Henderson-the man just shows charisma. George Brown-Steady as they come John Altizer-Always on top of the situations Mack Shupe-the man is an institution Junior Salyers-He's usually consistent Kuczco-Honorable Mention 5 worst- 5 is just not enough [/ QUOTE ] Altizer could be ok if he didn't think he was the greatest thing around. Junior has great mechanics, but does not call a very good game in my opinion. I agree about the 5 worst. The problem is, they don't get paid enough, so it is hard to get intelligent people to ref. There also needs to be a better evaluation system so refs can get some feedback, not just from other refs, but from coaches as well.
  7. The problem is, when the coaches get together to vote for all district players, most don't go in with the mind set of identifying the 10 best. Many coaches think it is their responsibility to do what they can to get their kids in. A coach should fight for his kids, but only if he truly thinks they are legitament 1st or 2nd teams kids.
  8. Hidden Valley goes down to a very athletic Brunswick team today. HV controlled most of the game but lost the lead with a few minutes left in the 4th, then went stone cold (especially from the foul line).
  9. [ QUOTE ] Why thank you there, Do you like my pocket protector too? [/ QUOTE ] just don't offer me any sunflower seeds
  10. [ QUOTE ] Well now ever since I been down there eatin' sunflower seeds and fillin' up the water for them boys I can say one thing about that Ferris fella, he works 'em. And most importantly. THEY IMPROVIN!!! Peace from Pattah County! [/ QUOTE ] Nice Socks Coy!!!
  11. [ QUOTE ] what about adam farris? [/ QUOTE ] what about him?...and I think he spells it Ferris
  12. Yeah, something has to be done in the youth leagues around here for the girls...develop them earlier. [/ QUOTE ] That is the key...and I think it all comes from the high school program. The youth programs in an area are the farm teams for the high school programs and the head varsity coach has to have a hand in how things are run and what is taught at the lower levels.
  13. anyone who takes jabs at Compton for his playing, has no clue. I don't care if the guy was 4th string and didn't play a snap...he was in the league! That is an amazing accomplishment and the dream of probably everyone that posts on this board. Cut on him all you want in regards to his lack of coaching experience, but dude was on a pro roster.
  14. do head coaches have a say in who gets hired...yes, at most schools. Do head coaches hand pick everyone they want...no, not at most small schools. Compton will be limited to those already on staff and any teaching openings the school has for next year (which at this point are none). If all of those people mentioned are going to PH, then they are going without teaching positions. If they teach in another district, then they will not receive coaching stipends. And for whomever said Brian Johnson is going back to coach at PH is an idiot (if it was meant seriously). Johnson is the Principal at the technical school, and I seriously doubt he is going to take a pay cut to move back into the class room just so he can be an assistant coach at PH. Also, keep in mind that their isn't a single person in all of Washington County that thinks the Principal has the slightest interest in football.
