  1. So wait did Grundy win 21-20 as was posted earlier or did Clintwood win 30 to 26???
  2. LOL you're crazy...Richlands wouldve won by 50 or 60...how come you always want to talk about the Grundy and Hurley games and never the Twin Valley games?
  3. Let me be the first to say congrats to Haysi, they flat out were ready to play and Grundy simply wasn't. Lance was correct that Grundy doesn't play well after an off week and it was very evident that was true. Haysi's running game surprised me, they have a good team. This is like exact opposites of the Hurley Grundy game, Hurley was favored but Grundy shut down their O and played tough D, Haysi is playing very well on O and as for their D... Hopefully Grundy can rebound next week. Good luck to Haysi
  4. Looks like it could be a wet one! I'll be listening to this one so I hope for the players and everyone who attends sake that the rain comes early or late and somehow gives them about a 3 hour break and is dry during the game.
  5. The QB for Haysi stats are rather impressive, but if they have to rely on him and their pass that much as was already said Grundy will dial the blitz from when Ward and Bostic were playing and it will get ugly fast unless they've got some really good screens and slants...Just don't see it going much different than the second half of the Hurley game...shut down the run with the Dlinemen then send them after the QB, the Dbacks will be about like they have all season may give up a few here and there but will cover well enough to not submit many points...Lenoard said it that the Wave is building steam weekly and their offense has to be on cloud 9 after what they were able to do to Hurley and having an off week to get fresh and hungry to win again...
  6. Oquinn is very good on both sides of the ball, but i think his skills as a receiver are being blown up just a bit...similar to talk of Cooper the week leading to the Hurley Grundy game...not trying to knock anyone down or talk poorly on either, each is a great student athlete with a bright future I am sure. Lance is right on with the way Grundy's offense works...of course they try to run first for all obvious reasons but they spread it around letting McClanahan, Travis and Oliver run it and throwing it to Oquinn, Smith, Oliver there's even one or two more that they throw it to and hand it off to every now and again but those 6 with Rife are the offenses bread and butter with that young line that is coming along nicely. Haven't heard anyone talk a whole bunch about Haysi's D line and defense in general. If they don't have the D to stop Grundy the difference in the game may be wether or not Grundy can go mistake free (no INT's or fumbles or muffed punts/kickoffs) and score on every possession...And if it's a close game or Grundy does get down as seen against Hurley it's not Grundy of old that let their mistakes snowball or just give up at half time, they'll keep coming and have shown they can score 20-30 points in a half... I think it will be close because Haysi isn't a team to get blown out and they have quiet a bit of offensive power...I don't think it's an OT or 3 point game though...I'll take Grundy by 7 and just a crazy amount of offense for both teams.
  7. Grundy's Dbacks aren't the ones I'd be testing...they've pretty much shut down all passing... I mean an All-District candidate at QB and an All-State wide receiver couldn't do anything...Covering the Tigers won't be nearly as hard as you're making it out to be, and Dillow and McCowan are going to come after the QB all night...IF Haysi doesn't throw Grundy's D off balance and get some points on the board early they could be in for a long night...
  8. Lebanon has some serious threats...looks like they played Union very well...could see them beating the banged up Gate City crew if they follow it up again this week with another tough performance but could also see it being a bit of a let down for them and letting this one slip away to a still tough GC...Should be fun to watch!
  9. Could you imagine going to see the TN playoffs?! I'm sure hey aren't all the same class, I think Maryville is like 6A but I mean It'd be like a Union vs Richlands match up every game of the playoffs! Shoot I'd go as far as to say, without any research yet, that Maryville probably plays at least 2 teams that are ranked in the Nation (probably low but still) I'm guessing Alcoa because they are a heck of a program year in and year out and then another team... Just goes to show how population and higher student ratios yield massive football teams with amazing athletes... I heard that Maryville had something like 8 kids sign D1 scholarships! EIGHT kids! Even Tennessee High had 4 kids sign with D1 schools after last year and two of those were to UT.
  10. Who is the best team in the entire state of Virginia for any class this year? This includes A, AA, AAA and Private schools...I would assume a school from the beach area like Hampton?
  11. OH MAN DOTSON YOU'RE SO RIGHT, Richlands would beat the piss out of Grundy, I mean just plum embarrass them JUST LIKE GRUNDY DID HURLEY!!!
  12. Very well said...Richlands has a huge feeder system pumping kids in year after year that are quality. Similar to a college program without having to recruit, a good kid graduates and they've got a good one behind him ready to fill his shoes. It'll be a while before Richlands declines with their recent success. Making the playoffs year after year and having multiple trips to State Title games and a State Championship in the last 5 years makes young kids want to play football (hence their feeder program) and it makes kids want to play and play hard at the highschool level... What I'm getting at is I'm a big Grundy and SWVA supporter but Richlands football is about like Grundy wrestling...noone around here is in their league right now and don't let the win over Hurley confuse you to think it is... a thing I love about Richlands is the schedule quality teams like Union and Pulaski county and that they let their back ups get reps, I think that goes a long way when a kid has played in 8 or 10 out of their 12 or 14 games and then that kid becomes the starter the next year...
  13. No kidding! Grundy lost last week and rebounded to beat a good Hurley team...like what was already stated I think they've got potential to win another 4-6 games if they play like they did in the second half... Hurley isn't done yet, they can easily rebound just like Grundy did and hang a big win on someone next week...I look for Church and the linemen to watch A LOT of film and DO A LOT of work this week and I also look for Cooper, Waynick and Berglowe to be hungry to score LOTS of points next week...This may be a spring board for both teams, a good hard loss for Hurley to come off of and perform well and a big confidence booster for Grundy to put it all together and cut out the mistakes to win out or at least put at good 7 or 9 win season together... Can't be any happier for an off week for Grundy though, McClanahan can rest up, Rife can work with his receivers, the linemen on both sides of the ball can get some good work in...And they get a week to enjoy the win and then another week to prepare for another opponent. Just a great time for an off week for Grundy in my opinion. Lance you may agree or disagree but I honestly think with Ward playing college ball pretty recent and being from a younger generation he sees what the kids like and what the kids need better maybe. He knows how important hydration among other small things are from his own experience with his team at VMI as well as he knows how to motivate this young team because he is younger himself and knows them better (see their play after halftime and his halftime talk)...
  14. Love it Lance. Can't wait to see the pictures from this one. You do a great job on this site with info. and witch pictures, I really appreciate all you and some of the other guys do on here for SWVA football. Dotson, I can see where you're coming from saying that you feel like Hurley gave it away, I mean they did get 2 INT's inside their own 25 to save Grundy scores in the first two offensive possessions for Grundy. They also recovered a fumbled punt just before the half inside of Grundy's 15. Oh and don't forget the FG that they blocked to keep Grundy scoreless in the first half. I mean honestly if I had Cooper and Waynick and I had 4 attempts inside the 15 of my opponent I'd be pretty upset if I couldn't hand it to an All-State quality running back a couple times and get it in or if I couldn't throw it up to my All-State wide receiver who's about 5 inches taller than any of the Grundy defenders. I'd also be pretty upset that Grundy scored 4 offensive touch downs in the second half and Hurley failed to score an offensive touch down all night. I'm sure Hurley's kids played as hard as they possibly could, and it showed in the first half when they made some great defensive and special teams plays it also showed in the 4th qtr. when the kid made the big return close to the end of the game on the kickoff after Grundy's 3rd TD I think it was. Hurley never seemed to give up and seemed to play very very hard. In all honesty the bottom line is, Grundy's defense shut down Hurley's offense all night from start to finish and Grundy's offense moved the ball all night, in the first half they made some huge mistakes that could have put the game away in the first qtr. had Hurley capitalized more. Bottom line: Grundy wanted it more in the second half.
  15. I'm interested to see if rebel1 and dotson will give credit to grundy and talk about the game with us of if they'll disappear for a while lol
  16. haha I was wondering when the Rowe stuff would start coming...I think Ward is going to be very successful...he's 2-1 in his first year as a HC and he's got a ton of young guys starting on both sides of the ball...
  17. What a great game...I have to say Cooper and Waynick were better than I thought in all honesty. Two great athletes there. What about Grundy rebounding after losing the way they did last week to beat what I think is a much better Hurley team?! and holding Berglowe out of the endzone?! Is Grundy a BDD title contender???
  18. Grundy adds another TD run by McClanahan to make it 26 to 8...Grundy scored every point of theirs in the second half and Hurley has failed to score a single offensive point... If someone offered me a $100 bet that Hurley wouldn't score on offense, or in the second half at all and that Grundy would score 4 times and all 4 in the second half and would win after throwing 2 INTS and losing a fumbled punt AND having a field goal blocked in the first half I would have doubled the bet on my end that you were completely and totally wrong... Gotta tip your hat to Grundy and their D...
  19. Nick Travis broke a run up the middle for another TD and Grundy makes the extra point kick to make it 19 to 8...Hurley has to score twice now
  20. Grundy scores on a wild play...Rife throws to Oliver, Oliver fumbles in the end zone and McClanahan recovers for the TD. Grundy up 12 to 8 at the start of the 4th
  21. 8-6 Hurley still up on Grundy but Grundy was able to march down and score after the half and stop Hurley...but Grundy is about to punt with 2:53 in the 3rd...
  22. Hurley is up 8-0 over Grundy at the half. Grundy has thrown 2 INT's inside the 20 of Hurley one of which Waynick returned for a TD and had a 25 yard field goal blocked AND fumbled a punt inside their own 10...and still no offensive points. Their D has shown up so far and is containing Berglowe and Co. pretty well. It's wild, Grundy could be up as much as 21-0 if they hadn't made a mistake on every offensive possession they've had. BUT at the same time, Hurley could be up 21-0 if they had capitalized on anymore of the Grundy mistakes...I don't know for sure that it wouldn't be 0-0 if there was anyone at all in front of Waynick on the INT he took back for the score.
  23. Grundy marches down the field again inside the 20 and gets stopped, they go for the field goal and it's blocked...still 8-0 Hurley.
