  1. [ QUOTE ] Gmen screwed it up for the beavers!! We wanted the first L [/ QUOTE ] Hmmmm...all of a sudden the tables are turned...Blues are now in the spoilers role in this one. Stranger things have happened, and the sleeping Giant may have been awakened. Long way to go before this game...lots of things could happen, so don't get too cocky!!!
  2. [ QUOTE ] IMO it will be close the first half and then it will get blowed out the water... [/ QUOTE ] I think it will be closer than 40 points. I'm saying 27-13 Blues.
  3. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] 18 games ago the blues lost to turner ashby [/ QUOTE ] your point? [/ QUOTE ] He's probably referring to the 33 game winning streak. What he doesn't realize is that the 33 game winning streak was regular season games, not including playoff games.
  4. I've got a crazy idea? How about a playoff??? Na...that would make too much sense.
  5. [ QUOTE ] I have a question for some richlands fans. On the "other board" they are doing a tribute to Richlands or something like that and they said players were crying and all that? Why is this? I understand it was a hard fought game and they ended up losing it, But its not like it was a championship game or anything. Ofcourse a loss sucks reguardless of who it was against but I look for richlands to win the SWD and go on from there. I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything, Im just wondering why some people are taking this loss so seriously? [/ QUOTE ] Uhhhhhhhh...could it be because the 33 game winning streak came to an end???? Just a WILD GUESS!!! Good grief!
  6. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Congrats g-men on the victory... wonder what's being said on the blues personal message board tonight? [/ QUOTE ] Not sure what they are saying but it sounds like that board has been invaded by a bunch of crickets.... [/ QUOTE ] Probably too busy eating some crow on that side of Tazewell County today. Their reality check bounced. [/ QUOTE ] It's comments like this that create hate between the two schools. Absolutely classless. Everyone I know on the Richlands side has had nothing but good things to say about an absolutely great football game between two "warriors" on the football field. I am proud of the Graham G-Men for their victory, and I wish you all well for the remainder of the season. Maybe we will meet again, and if we do it will be another awesome football game. Both sides played their hearts out, and nobody is "eating crow"...we're supporting our team in defeat just as we did in victory.
  7. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I agree...now time to re-group. I listened to the game and it sounded like a typical Graham-Richlands slugfest. Lots of hard hitting. Not a lot of penalties either. Hats off to the Graham G-men...Congratulations to a better team tonight. [/ QUOTE ] All the hitting came from the maroon side of the ball. Not to belittle anyone but Richlands just isn't hitting anyone. Wicks had a couple of good shots but arm takling just doesn't get it done when they're running the ball down your throught. [/ QUOTE ] I didn't see the game, but it sounded like Graham just wore the Blues down. The G-men were bigger and more physical for sure, and that's their brand of football...also, it was a game riddled with mistakes for Richlands. Too many missed opportunities, and Graham took advantage of the mistakes. Graham sounded like champions tonight, and I believe they wanted it more.
  8. [ QUOTE ] Richlands did have 2 close calls the past 2 weeks. Might have been an omen. [/ QUOTE ] I agree...now time to re-group. I listened to the game and it sounded like a typical Graham-Richlands slugfest. Lots of hard hitting. Not a lot of penalties either. Hats off to the Graham G-men...Congratulations to a better team tonight.

  10. Great response...how old are you dude??? 12?
  11. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] i still have a right to voice my opinion, is that correct? [/ QUOTE ] You do have a right to voice your opinion, Adidas, but you also need to admit when you are just plain dead wrong. Have you seen anyone come to your defense on this post? Anyone with any football knowledge knows your statement about an onside kick at the beginning of a game being "unsportsmanlike" is absolutely ridiculous! You just wanted to voice an attack on Richlands and their football program, and that my friend is painfully obvious. Your opinion has no basis...it's WRONG! You don't know what you're talking about, and that my friend is very clear. [/ QUOTE ] Who you are and where you're from has nothing to do with it. I don't know you, and you don't know me...all I know about you is what you post, and that speaks volumes.

  13. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] are u really that simple minded? looks like people would do it every single kick off if that was the case... but they show class and use that strategy when it is needed... all im saying is put ur self in that situation and how u would feel about it.. its my opinion and very good opinion i think, but like i said it was last year it dont even matter, we will just have to "agree to disagree" [/ QUOTE ] Adidas, let me see if I can explain this to you from my piont of view. There is a risk when you try to execute an onside kick...nothing guarantees you that you are going to get the ball, even if, as you say, you win the coin toss. If Richlands had kicked the onside kick and NOT recovered the ball, it would have been the other team's ball in GREAT field position. That's why it's a risky play, just like a fake punt or a halfback pass or a reverse. All these plays involve risk, they are not automatic, and you have to execute the play to make it work. With that being said. I know you're not going to agree with me either, so I'll just make this my last attempt in trying to explain my point of view. Kicking an onside kick to begin the game is in no way unsportsmanlike, and you are the one who is "simple minded" if you think so. [/ QUOTE ] ur not coming from where im coming from on this, and im not gonna try to explain it to u anymore, u wont convince me otherwise because its my opinion just as u have yours, and im not trying to convince you... thanks and have a nice day.. [/ QUOTE ] Any well coached team will tell the front five not to drop back to block until they are 100% sure that the ball will be kicked. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that the Richlands coaching staff picked up in film study that the front five guys were flying back to block leaving the area open for a successful onside kick. Nothing unsportsmanlike at all about taking advantage of that especially on the opening kickoff. Great coaching on one side, and poor coaching on the other. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly! I am just flabergasted that anyone would call an onside kick at the beginning of the game "unsportsmanlike". It blows my mind!

  15. [ QUOTE ] welcome blueinbama.your right about the kids doing their best for the school they go to and the community in which they live.but you will find smack talk anywhere sports are discussed, its just nature taking over.hope you dont get offended too much on here.lol again welcome to swvafootball. [/ QUOTE ] Believe me, I know about smack talk...I live in Alabama, and there are two schools down here that absolutely hate each other...I'm sure you've heard of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers. This rivalry never ends...it goes on 12 months a year, so yes, I know about smack talk. I do realize there is going to be heated discussion whenever sports, especially football, is discussed, I just don't like the name calling and the personal attacks that have been voiced on this board lately...it's totally unnecessary. You can support your team without all that childish banter, that's all I'm saying. I intend to participate in discussion on here, but with class.
  16. That's where you're wrong, adidas...if someone did it to Richlands on the opening kickoff I would understand that they are trying their best to get an advantage...to try and win a football game. Nothing dirty or unsportsmanlike about that period. That's just football.
  17. Thanks for the welcome! I'm glad the smack talk problem has calmed down. That was a little disturbing to say the least. I believe everyone has a right to voice his or her opinion, but keep it civil. No need for name calling and disrespecting another school. After all, the kids that are playing this game are putting it all on the line for their school, and they all are to be commended for their courageous efforts. We as fans and parents don't need to cheapen it with smack talk.
  18. Hey guys...this is my first post on this board, so don't rip me to shreads...First off I need to state that I am a Richlands graduate way back in 1969, and I am proud of my high school and it's football team. I am also very proud of the entire SW District of Virgina, where some of the toughest and grittiest football players that have ever put on pads have hailed from. I am always proud whenever I hear of a SW Va. football player advancing into the college and pro ranks. That being said, I would like to address a previous post. I don't think calling for a fake punt in the closing minutes of the first half qualifies as running up the score. As a coach in that situation I believe you try to get as comfortable a margin as you are able to in the first half, then play your second and third stringers in the second half to get them some experience. Coach Mance might have believed that punting the ball to Tazewell at that point might have given them an opportunity to score before the half, giving Tazewell momentum going into the second half. Instead, he ran a fake punt, and I believe scored before the half making the score 35-0. Call me crazy, but I think any good coach worth his salt would have made the same call if he had the confidence in his team to pull it off.
