Maybe they should "unsolidate" and make two decently sized A schools. Region D needs the numbers and my knowledge of that area isn't that great, but I'm pretty sure Pennington Gap and Jonesville have had seperate high schools before.
Of course that is not a serious suggestion, but a thought none-the-less.
Speaking of which, Beamerball, when those old high schools were around, what were their colors and mascots? Just out of curiosity...
-
Better look again then. Honaker is the smallest D2 school in Region D with 400 studnets, if Lee has over 800, then they're twice the size of the entire Cumberland and Black Diamond districts and 2/3's of the LPD. They shouldn't even be single A, at least not in this area. They're bigger than most AA schools around here. 34 varsity players?? ONLY 34 VARSITY? So thats not including JV? That's more than most teams in SWVA dude. Even if it was 34 altogether its as many as probably half the schools. They were decent in the late 90's, why is this program so awful that it has to drop classifications to earn any respect?
-
Six OT's in a JV game? And it still ended in a tie? Put this on YouTube STAT!
-
Isn't Lee almost twice the size of the rest of Region D?

Chevy...
Clapton or Hendrix

To ammend that, PH was the biggest school in the Hogo for several years. Still close and probably not worth busting your balls over, but the enrollments I've seen for this year have GW at 468 and PH at 466. But, I think we all see your point. Still a sizeable school with an itty-bitty football team.
-
Yeah, you can't really measure your football team based on a benefit game and/or John Battle. Agreed, it's a good way to start off your season. It builds confidence and it gets you a W over a D2 school. Awesome for Abingdon. And you were overwhelmed in a benefit game on your home-field by another D2 school. So what, Chilhowie isn't a bad team. Have you ever beaten them in a benefit game? I think you came close maybe once. It's ok. You've started out this way since 2005, and each year you've yielded a better record. All that the benefit game and the John Battle game mean is that you're doing what is expected of Abingdon this season, which is a good first step for any team. You'll probably roll over PH as well (also expected). Late September 12th/early September 13th we'll know whether or not Abingdon is executing.
-
I agree with that. It is a very overlooked rivalry. It's perhaps the closest rivalry around in terms of scores year in and year out and the winners of the games are usually difficult to predict.
-
Wasn't Chilhowie predicted to win by the Roanoke and Bristol papers? Was Marion supposed to fare well in the SWD this year? Chilhowie might go 9-1 this year, but they have probably the weakest schedule in the Hogo besides Holston.

Haha yeah really, go Tazewell. Who saw that coming? And Fort Chiswell too, gonna be a wild year boys.
-
Agreed, I too will be there. Looking for a great game, this might be a year both of these schools get back to the playoffs together since what? 2001?
-
Since the name of the thread is "hurley@ervinton", I would assume Ervinton, but maybe the original poster was wrong...
-
I'm having the same issue.

ervinton wouldnt consolidate simply shut down with some kids going to clintwood and some to haysi and some would sureley go to st paul and coeburn
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah thats what I meant. Who would they consolidate with I guess would be more accurate.
So they would have to go to a bunch of different places, does this seem like a likely possibility in the future? Or is the low football team numbers not indicative of a declining enrollment and just a bad football year?
-
If she's interested and is playing for the right reasons and not because someone is pushing her to do it, she should be fine. There was a set of twin girls a year behind me that played little league football with us and definitely started on the line and owned but their mom pushed them a little hard because she wanted to make some kind of feminist statement and they eventually quit. Had they been left alone and played in high school, who knows, I'm sure they would've done fine.
Hopefully that won't happen in this girl's case.
-
I heard they had like 13 come out, don't know if that number has gone up or down. If Ervinton had to consolidate, who would it be with? Clintwood?
