  1. Maybe if we joined forces, we could knock off ODU for the Commonwealth Cup.
  2. So they're your friends, but that doesn't answer my question. You said you believe in freedom of expression and tolerance. Do you think interracial or homosexual relationships are okay? If not, you should take back that whole thing about "We live in America and believe in freedom of expression and tolerance". If you're okay with those relationships because they don't have an effect on your life and those people are just expressing themselves, then we can go back to discussing students. My money is on that you want to pick and choose what America has the freedom to express and be tolerant of, and if that's the case... then I rest my case.
  3. I would agree. But they do like to take advantage of the small amount of time they're allotted to you.
  4. There was a Supreme Court ruling in 1879 you might want to look into and another in 1947. That should take care of most of your bullet points. "The cheerleaders were EXPRES(s)ING "their" views, not the views of the institution!" Expressing their views individually is fine. Moment of silence, silent prayer, wearing a cross... totally cool. When the school permits the sign to be used at a public event for the public school on school grounds, then they endorse that message (intentionally or not), while some of the parents/tax payers do not. Again, revert back to the words of Justice Hugo Black, circa de 1947. "Furthermore, what if the instittution did support these views, is that so disgusting of a notion that we should "roll our eyes?" Whatever happened to embracing principles that are morally respectful and honorable?" Revert back to my post before about how I think the message was well intended. I roll my eyes that they honestly believe no one sees a problem with this action. I will finish by saying that the Court has not always upheld the constitutional principle as absolute, though I believe it should. I find it dangerous and irresponsible to subject children to teachings that do not adhere to the beliefs of the parents or that may be inaccurate to their own faiths. I think church, under the guidance of their care giving adult, is the better place and time for religion to be expanded to children. I do respect that you're religious and stand for something, and you a free to practice it however you please shy of harming, endangering, or making others uncomfortable. But also be mindful that Christianity shares America with many different religions.
  5. Highly likely, many are. But I think back to the events at VT a few years back. Chaos upon chaos and we had to finish our exam... some professors are hardcore at being professors.
  6. "We live in America and believe in freedom of expression and tolerance..." Do you believe black and white people should marry? Two men can marry and be publicly affectionate? Two women can marry and be publicly affectionate? If you believe these things, I will concede to you that your idea of a Utopian America is possible.
  7. GIGANTICALLY LARGE IMAGE OF A BIRD TO EMPHASIZE MY POINT I like pizza because I like the cheese. "What!? You don't like pizza but you like cheese?" No, I DO LIKE PIZZA! AND I LOVE THE CHEESE?! "This is why I can never trust you. Now you love the cheese because you hate pepperoni." No, I like pepperoni too. It's okay, but it's the cheese that does it for me. Why did you bring up pepperoni? "Because Obama hates America." I just paraphrased this entire discussion.
  8. Who said anything about Jesus? Jesus was a real guy. What if he was the son of God? I never debated the existence of God. Science can't prove or disprove that. The Bible on the other hand... it has some explaining to do.
  9. It takes about zero faith to look through a microscope.
  10. To answer every single one of your points, please revert back to everything I've already said.
  11. I am not kidding you. Ever see them try to take the Ten Commandments out of schools? Yeah, if their sitting on their hands, then they must have four arms. Your examples are of radical extremes are not what I meant by hostility, my apologies.
  12. Needs to be, must be, should be, could be, would be. Bottom line: It's a public institution. Doth not belongeth. Clear enough? I don't get your second sentence..?
  13. Because... that wouldn't go over well, and you know it. If it can't go over well for everyone, it should probably be left out completely. Just save it for Sundays. You have a whole day of the week to express all kinds of faith.
  14. Ever heard of molecular biology? The molecular clock? Mitochondrial Eve?
  15. I believe there is a possibility of a God. I believe "God's word" as you put it, or the Bible, is a nice substitute for the unexplained. But when science is able to explain those things, I think it's foolish to ignore it and pretend an ancient book written by men thousands of years ago can conceive what modern science can often prove.
  16. I'm not denying the existence of God... but to deny the existence of evolution and calling it "magic" because you know very little about it is... well, amusing, considering the exaggerated nature in all religious scriptures. I would think you would want to accept the intricate workings and beautiful complexity of evolution as a work of your Creator.
  17. No no no, you're thinking of Bill Nye. Also, science is real.
  18. Blame Obama, dude. Tell me about it. I was trying to find some scholarships for grad school (I'm mostly white but some parts of me aren't) and was having a whale of a time. Everyone kept saying, are you native American? "Well yeah, I'm native to 'Murica! What kind of question is that anyway?" Apparently that's not the right answer. How's that not the right answer? AMERICA IS ALWAYS THE ANSWER! Anyway, they determined rather quickly that I wasn't black or Hispanic, don't ask me how. I think it's profiling. Again, if Obama had closed Gitmo we wouldn't be having these issues, amirite? So there I sat, and finally the lady said, "But sweetie, you qualify for most all of these scholarships because you have a strong GPA and some really nice credentials on your resume. You can essentially go to college for free. Also, you can write a few essays and win other awards and actually get all kinds of money with a little extra work." I said to her, I said, LADY WHAT YOU MEAN WORK!? I have a blockbuster GPA and I'm white to boot, I don't need WORK! I stormed out. I was furious.
