  1. i think that graham and grundy droping down is a good move for those schools and will be a positive for the players. They will both be in the top 3 of their new districts, but like lance is saying if they are to have any success in the playoffs they need to improve. I personally am really glad to see grundy enter the BDD, this district is nowhere near as strong as the SWD but will still be a stern chalenge for grundy. At Haysi success is measured in district championships and region and state championships are a distant thought I hope with Grundy droping that the level of competition will rise and so will the expectations at Haysi.
  2. Hurley was given the same chance as every other school win your district and your in, doesent matter who else you played. Life is full of ups and downs and thats how it is, im sure those kids are taking it rough but thats life. They wont be taking it any harder than all of the other teams who didnt make it in, or the four schools in the region that wont be playing anymore after next week. and does the flu only affect hurley while haysi and honaker are completly immune to it? Because nobody told me. Hurley had a great season but wanting to call special meetings, crying and whyning as well as all of that other bs just cheapens this season and what those boys did. My senior year team had three losses to three good teams, the rest of the teams we played were soft. We missed the playoffs, oh well too bad! Enjoy what you had not cry about what you dont!! Hurley is a small school and falls back on its enrollment as a reason for only playing teams its size (an arguement I have made for haysi on many occasions) but clintwood has an enrollment of about 300 and JIB is just over 200, thats about hurleys size so dont talk about those schools like they are HUGE, they are just good. Thomas Walker and Lee play several KY schools as well.
  3. red v orange as much emotion and excitement as any rivalry in swva I cant wait GO HAYSI red 27 orange 13
  4. totally agree. It is really annoying that every year some fans cry and scream because their team is deserving and they didnt get in. Haysi missed the playoffs one year with a 9-1 record, as did honaker. Clintwood missed a few years back and they were 8-2, thats the breaks. if it is such a big deal with the weaker districts, well then lets redistrict. But no, nobody wants that. It really comes down to this; each team has its schedule laid out before it all they have to do is win.
  5. I think haysi being the superior team had a lot to do with the outcome!
  6. I thought it would have to be D1 and D2. Because it has to be both divisions I dont think it will happen. But one could argue that at least 5 of the D2 teams are deserving of a playoff spot.
  7. I know that each region can decide on their own if they would like to expand from 4 playoff teams to 6, but can a region expand in only one division? My reason for asking this is that the region D D1 has a lot of teams (13), justifying IMO an expanded playoff brackett. As where region D D2 has a small number of teams (9) and if the brackett was expanded then almost everyone would get in. The catch is I dont know that reg D D1 has enough teams in most years that really deserve a playoff spot, but I think it should be looked at as a possibility. This year for example if Haysi wins the BDD then hurley and appy are left out in the cold with good records and solid teams. This may not be a realistic proposal. I was just wondering if it was possible and what everyone thought about it.
  8. It should be a close game. I dont think the score will reflect the talent and skill of the teams as much as it will reflect how well hurley takes its loss to Haysi. If the loss broke hurley then it will be a bad, but if the rebels use it as motivation then they could pull out a win. I really hope they use the loss, its been a while since they beat honaker.
  9. Im not talkimg ancient history im talking about recently. Haysi has played castlewood on and off for years but its not a traditional thing like say Haysi and Clintwood. And I wasnt born in the 70s, I hadnt even been thought about, but I dont see how that has anything to do with the thread.
  10. should be a great game, i think the two teams are pretty evenly matched. Hurley has made it to this point with only one slip up, while haysi has payed a pretty tough schedule other than a couple of teams (hopefully that tough schedule will pay off for the tigers) two teams with very different styles and different things to prove Hurley tries to resurrect their program and the glory from yester year while haysi tries to show that they are still on top and hold on to control of the BDD I say 20-14 TIGERS
  11. travel would be my guess and why not just mix up the schedule. Castlewood has no traditional ties to either haysi or hurley. They were on haysi's schedule up until 4(?) years ago, have been off for a few and are now back on
  12. thank god the tigers finally won a game. Next up castlewood maybe the boys can get on a roll and get a little momentum before they open district play. Im a little suprised by the GC/Bluefield score thought it would be closer, still thought GC would win just not by that much. But they are a dominating team very physical and they just keep coming, always have.
  13. Holston is running the Split veer right? if so haysi's defense will do better than in previous weeks. The tigers have a small quick D that has been weak against the power running game. haysi 27 holston 20
  14. that could very well happen haysi has not really developed at this point as I thought they would (but the season is still young) the tigers could be 5-5 or worse (god I hope not) and make it in
  15. this is what im talking about this thread involves grundy and haysi, why does this guy take it so personally?
