  14. I can't even keep up anymore. Makes me miss some of that nonsense from Falconman and Southbound.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well..........almost.
  15. "That was exactly my point, so we agree. And I apologize if my past experiences made me think poorly of your fans, but the letting the air out of tires and rock throwing really stuck with me. I should let that go and not think poorly of your fans today. Sorry." Sorry for my rant. One of my BIG pet peeves is when an entire group is judged based on the actions of a few members of that group. The group can be GC fans, a minority, "rednecks", or whatever. That has just never made sense to me. Of course I also can't stand it when someone uses almost all of the ice in an ice tray and doesn't fill it back up. Or, when someone leaves just a tad of coffee in the pot here at work. If you leave less than a full mug of coffee in the pot, pour it out and make a new pot. During the past 2-3 years, I have seen the police have to escort VA High "fans" out of the GC gym because of their behavior. One enraged "fan" tried to get on the floor. Obviously this doesn't make the entire fan base bad. Would also be crazy of me to judge any VA High fan, I might meet in the future, based on the action of these "fans".
  16. You know........it seems some people on this board need to take a step back and realize a few things. #1 You are not in High School anymore. Unfortunately kids in High School do things that we just can't explain. I'm guilty of a few of those myself. #2 Just because you have had a bad experience with some "fans" from another school, odds are the entire fan base is not "bad". ALL schools have their bad apples. No doubt a "bad fan experience" could be told about EVERY school. #3 You need to let go of things that happened to you in High School. Those days are over and gone. Heck, at one point you used to crap in your own clothes. You got over that. #4 How well your school does on Friday night or Saturday afternoon does NOT really change who you are. Well, it shouldn't. If it does, you probably need professional help.
  17. "Gate City's fans are far and away the most hostile and obnoxious and make our worst fans seem like choirboys." *Sigh* I was really enjoying you guys going after each other's fan base. "And yet when I played Basketball for VHS, we went up against Appalachia and had their students using the "N-word" at our black players, had Gate City fans throw rocks at our bus, and had the air let out of the tires there, but no, we're the ones full of "problems". " And once 45 years ago some fans of ????? High School called a red-headed kid on the basketball team a "Ginger", now all the fans at that school are "bad" for eternity. Geez. Hey.........I was helping coach GC's 8th grade football team many years ago, when our bus was hit with rocks going to a game at Pennington.........all Pennington/Lee High fans must be bad.........right? JOKE. " It didn't happen just in Appy/GC. I played for VHS in the late 70's to early 80s. One particular school of note (starts with a G) had a row of grown men hanging on the fence "counting crows" as we entered the field. The racial slurs were common place, multiple and for a bunch 16-17 year olds, sometimes scary." Again, stuff from 30+ years ago should be left where they already are..........in the past. BAD stuff happened at all schools back then. Why bring that stuff up now? Unless it is to show that you can't single out a school or two. That I completely understand, and agree with.
  18. "I can agree with that. But I can also tell you that "whining and crying" about it is always a lame position to take, no matter the circumstances. That's why I say, "Take your butt whipping, etc". You never look good complaining about someone running up the score. It's loser speak." Well.................I can agree with that.
  19. "I laugh every time I hear the "running up the score" argument in high school sports, especially football. It's a lame position to take. Own your butt whipping, and get better." It is not about owning your butt whipping. It is about a coach doing what is best for his team. Makes NO sense to keep your star player.....the player your entire team depends on......in a game late when the outcome has long been decided. If that kid blows out a knee, you have just let your entire team down. It is also pretty smart to get your younger players some experience. You never know when those players are going to have to play. Could be the following week. Now I am NOT talking about a coach playing his second and third teams, and allowing those kids to run plays. IMHO, that is what a coach should be doing. You shouldn't put those kids in and ask them to take a knee. Put them in and let them run some plays. That can only help your team in the future.
  20. "Totally agree....Old Spurrier rule applies also, My job to score your job to stop me....Don't get mad if I do my job better." Totally disagree. Doesn't make much sense to risk the health of your top player when the outcome of the game has clearly been decided. If you will watch teams that have a long, winning tradition, they almost always pull some, if not all, of their starters when the outcome of the game has been decided. They do this to not only reduce the risk of injury for their starters, but also to give the younger players some experience. Reducing the risk of injury helps your team this year. Playing some younger kids helps your team next year. Now maybe the coach was not paying attention to what was going on. Also totally disagree that Peoples having one more TD will have any bearing on his ability to get a scholarship. To think otherwise is simply naive. College scouts know how to evaluate a kid. The number of TDs a kid scores doesn't have much to do with it.
  21. My mistake then. My feet were cold and I guess I didn't pay that much attention.
  22. Battle fell behind quickly and GC totally dominated the game. Halftime score was GC 49-6. GC's first team offense played one uninspired series during the second half. GC's first team defense played the entire second half, but played a very "vanilla", base defense. Would have really liked to have seen Battle play their second team defense when GC played their second team offense. Give all the kids a chance to play. That helps build your team. Give those young kids a few minutes of game time. Keep them interested.
