  1. PS:The VHSL has totally blown this whole alignment thing yet again...the new system sucks. Put teams in the districts they belong in, district winner gets an automatic playoff spot so it means something to win a district again...and then points for the rest...if they would do that and push for 8 team districts or so where it's possible and no more 3 team type Highlands district of old...then you would see a lot better games across the board and district rivalries...which is what high school football should be about anyway.

These guys making the changes do not get it...at all.

I don't really mind the new setup (with some exceptions of course) but you're right about districts in the regular season...if we keep them, then we need bigger districts. If we keep this new system, then do away with regular season districts and let everyone play who they want. Personally, I'd like to see the latter.

  2. Lebanon geographically is just right in the middle of SWVA and are on the edge of a lot of districts; BDD, Mountain, SW, Hogo and the Cumberland.

The Mountain will be a force in football. Im not really familiar with the other sports at the rest of the schools but Clintwood/Haysi have solid baseball and basketball programs. They are both pretty good in Girls Basketball too.

Im really excited about the overall potential of the Mountain

I really wish VHS could join the Mtn District. Would be really competitive in multiple sports, especially baseball.

  3. It's crazy to think that since 1959, Bluefield has only had 3 head football coaches while in the same time frame, John Battle has had.....well, a LOT more than that, lol. Then, of course, there's Lee's case since they opened in the 80's (??? correct me if I'm wrong). Stability at the top is one of the major keys to success in any program.

BTW, nice site. I know next to nothing about Bluefield (or any WV high school), but I just couldn't stop reading all the school's history on the homepage. I did notice a few typos, so you might want to proofread it, but other than that I really like it.

  4. What worries me is that the 5 terrorists that were released will surely rejoin al-Qaeda and plan more attacks on the US. This exchange means more possible civilian deaths and/or soldier deaths as they try to stop them (again). And all for a guy who deserted and apparently has anti-American views. I heard on the radio this morning that he had apparently left his base and gone AWOL once before because "he was bored".

  5. Can't find the article now, but there was one that I read which said he had sent his belongings back home and gathered survival supplies just before disappearing (leading many to believe that he did desert......though I'm not sure if him becoming a POW was planned or not). His father also had some suspicious comments on Twitter that he deleted (though nothing is ever permanently deleted from the Internet). Lots and lots of scary new details keep coming out. I really don't like conspiracy theories or anything like that, but when all the news outlets (not just Fox) are reporting the same thing, there must be some truth to it all.

  6. Redtiger, Lebanon isn't in the Mountain District. They are in the Southwest District. The other team you didn't mention in the MD is Central. I agree with your prediction though. GC and Union should vie for the title (for what it's worth) with Lee being a possible sleeper. Battle will be young and rebuilding while I think Central will be rebuilding as well since their coach went to AHS.

  7. From what I've heard, there weren't that many candidates to choose from for both the AHS and JSB jobs. Someone also mentioned on the MD forum that all Battle's assistants quit, but I don't know if that's true or not. Next year was going to be tough anyway because we'll be pretty young, but on the other hand younger kids plus new coach(es) might mean less of a headache transitioning to any new systems and they will adapt fast. I honestly don't know how any of this'll turn out, but I've already stated on the other forum that I'm not much in touch will Battle football like I used to be when I started filming and this most likely will be my last year doing it. Seen way too many coaching changes in only 8 years of filming and don't know hardly anyone in the program anymore. Time to move on (would have ended it last year, but some players asked me to do it a little longer). After this, I'll continue to support JSB football no matter what, but from a bit more of a distance.

  8. Just saw on ESPN that Jacksonville will bench Bortles for the season. Didn't listen to the whole story, so I don't know the details.

I was a little afraid too that Dallas might take Manziel. They REALLY need to build the defense, but to pick any offensive player, they made the right call. If anything, shoring up the Oline will allow Romo more time to work.....and if he can't do it now, then they really need a new qb (I'm still hoping they give Weedon a chance and that he can do pretty good). I'm really hoping that Dallas uses the rest of their picks for defense. Need linebackers, safeties, Dlinemen.....the list goes on. The offense is there (just not firing on all cylinders all the time), need to rebuild the defense.

  9. You have to understand as well that there are kids who start school a year later (talking about Kindergarten here). Me and my youngest brother have birthdays that were near the old cutoff dates in Washington County, VA, and we could have started a year earlier than we did, but we would have been some of the youngest in our classes. Instead our parents started us a year later and we were some of the oldest in our classes. I wasn't 19 my senior year, but I do know of two kids who were that age because one was older than me in the same class and started school late while the other was kind of in the same boat, but also was held back in elementary school (failed one grade for various reasons). It's not all cut and dry.

  10. The main reason Dallas even got Weedon is because Romo was still recovering from surgery (or whatever he had) and they needed someone to play qb for preseason workouts/camps. But I hope they at least give him a chance in the preseason games or the regular season.

  11. Dallas really needs to focus on DEFENSE this year.....especially after the guys they let go. The offense is ok (could be better for sure) but defense is horrible and it'll be worse this year if they don't do something. I've like Romo since he started, but he's just not getting it done when it really counts. If anything, Dallas needs to draft a good qb who can back Romo up and learn from him (and even compete with him....taking Romo's place if he's good enough). Seems like the only backups Dallas gets are whatever qb's are available when they need someone (mostly guys near retirement or guys no one else wants). But this year defense needs to be the main focus as well as the OL and DL.

  12. Just another year that Dallas doesn't try to pick up a good qb and instead grabs ANOTHER wr or rb. In all seriousness though, I am a bit curious about where some college players will land. I'll watch it until I don't recognize anyone's names, lol.
