I was wondering if VA high school football is the same as WV in the sense that WV has a single A, double A, and triple A champion of the entire state. I was under the impression that a team like Giles for instance does not play for a state championship but rather is single A champion of their region. Would appreciate some clarification.

There is two state champions for each group. Two A state champions, two AA state champions and so forth. Each group is split down the middle by enrollment numbers. So in a sense you have small A and big A and so forth. A team like Giles can play would play someone from the other side of the state in the championship game.

Virginia is divided into classifications of AAA, AA, and A just like WV. However, for football only they also divide each classification into two divisions, which are based on enrollment numbers. So they crown six state football champions.

A

Division 1

Division 2

AA

Division 3

Division 4

AAA

Division 5

Division 6
