GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted October 9, 2006 [ QUOTE ] I just wanna know how good of a chance we have at playoffs? [/ QUOTE ] Zero, unless you win out...then slim at best considering you play Grundy, Lee, and Marion...not a lot of points from Grundy and Lee...plus, playing THREE Class A schools hurts you guys especially when Bassett, Magna Vista, and Martinsville all play at least two Class AAA schools (mucho points...losing to AAA is as good as beating a Class A). bluekick 11 Report Share Posted October 9, 2006 If you get 12 points (as in playoff points) during your first game, 16 the second, and 12 for your third, you add them all and divide by the number of games played. 12+16+12=40 40/3=13.3 Your team's average is 13.3 points per game. Narz_Wave 10 Report Share Posted October 9, 2006 If I'm not mistaken, you get 10 points for beating a D1 opponent, 11 for a D2, 12 for D3....etc. You get one point for losing to a d1, 2 for a d2, 3 for a d3. You also get one point for each win that your opponents collect. So, let's take Narrows for example L to JM (Translates to a D3 in VA) I think-3 W over craig-10 L to Giles-2 L to East Mont-1 L to Grayson-2 W over auburn-10 Total 28 +7 for JM wins +0 for craig wins +4 for Giles wins +3 for East Mont wins +2 for Grayson wins +1 for Auburn wins That's a total of 45 points. You divide that by the number of games played (6) to get a power point average of 7.5. Ok, maybe my calculations are off here. I have a guy showing Narz with 50 points total. I'll have to recheck my point values...stand by.
Narz_Wave 10 Report Share Posted October 9, 2006 EDIT YOu get two bonus points for each win a team collects that you beat, but that still doesn't get me to 50 points. Anyone see anything I've missed or mis-valued?

VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted October 10, 2006 OK - lotsa mistakes. First, D 3 is worth 5 or 15, not 3 or 13. JM : 5 + 7 = 12 EM : 1 + 3 = 4 CC : 10 + 1 + 0 = 11 Gi : 2 + 4 = 6 Gr : 2 + 2 = 4 Au : 10 + 1 + 2 = 13 6 games, 50 points - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Zach - next Spring would be a good time to start - the new ratings formula next year will be simpler. bluekick 11 Report Share Posted October 14, 2006 [ QUOTE ] so we are second in div. 4? [/ QUOTE ] In this poll, but this isn't the VHSL poll. I'm sure you're still in 5th place in the one that matters and it's going to be some miraculous stuff if you make it to 4th. Looks like Abingdon's probably going to sitting home come the middle of November.
VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted October 14, 2006 this isn't a POLL - this is the ACTUAL RATINGS that are used to determine playoff seedings. Polls don't mean nothin'.
bluekick 11 Report Share Posted October 14, 2006 You're right. I thought this was a rating system that you had come up with. I didn't look familiar since you hadn't averaged the points. I knew it wasn't a voting poll though. Abingdon is still in 5th place and out of the playoffs as of now though.

jham 10 Report Share Posted October 22, 2006 wow abingdon movesfrom 5th to 2nd. also alot thought that the state semis would be a rematch in d3 but liberty may be in trouble. they are slipping with games against ( at heritage, at amherst county, and hame appomattox. they are 0-3 away this year. they could end up 5-5. will that get them in.
bluekick 11 Report Share Posted October 22, 2006 No, Abingdon is still in 5th. You to divide the total by the number of games played; 9 games for Abingdon; 8 for MV, Mavahi, CC, and Bassett.
jham 10 Report Share Posted October 22, 2006 you right forget about that his not divided yet
VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted October 22, 2006 You're both wrong - Abingdon stayed in 2nd in points. I don't post averages because they don't tell you what you need to know. If Bassett loses, how close will they be to Abingdon? Can you tell me by looking at the averages? I can tell by looking at the raw points - Bass. will get 6 for playing MV, which would get their 5th win, which would give Bass. 11 points for 132, or 3 behind Ab, with rider points not yet added in. Raw points tells you a lot more than the average does to me.
jham 10 Report Share Posted October 22, 2006 yea but is abingdon really in second. what does the vhsl go by averages i believe. if the season ended today abingdon would not get in right or wrong. i am used to seeing averages not total points. i understand what you mean though and we appreciate your hard work because you let us know the ratings before anyone else. thanks
pdfan 101 Report Share Posted October 23, 2006 Abingdon's total is divided by 9,Carroll's by 8, but MV,Bassett and Mavahi's by 7.All 3 Piedmont teams have 3 games left.
