edrforshey 27 Report Share Posted February 27, 2007 please contact Parkersburg High School Athletic Director Mr. Richard Lance at 304-485-8010. Parkersburg is trying to locate an opponent to play Beckley Woodrow Wilson on that date. Parkersburg has been invited to play in a National Event at Massillion, Ohio on that weekend, but first must find a replacement game for Beckley. buzzsawBeaver 12 Report Share Posted February 28, 2007 I have no say in the matter for bluefield but don't all teams have an open date, seems if beckley had an open date that matched with either of bluefield's they could have that aug date open and schedule bluefield the other day. Good fortune locating a team though, seems to be a good opportunity for parkersburg. Who would they play?
edrforshey 27 Author Report Share Posted February 28, 2007 We would get to play Massillion Washington Tigers. Paul Brown was their coach decades ago. Earl Bruce coached there in the late 60's, early 70's. Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Tigers, seats 18,000. Its 1 of 2 sites used for the Ohio Championships. The other is at the NFL Hall of Fame, Fawett Stadium.
buzzsawBeaver 12 Report Share Posted March 1, 2007 I recognize the program, if I'm correct they were on that top 10 national rivalry list that bluefield graham were on. Massillion against canton mckinley, maybe rated the 2nd biggest rivalry nationally or among the top on that list. I know they have a lot of tradition, kids had tiger tattoos tattooed on their foot when they were born, at least they used to, real tiger for a mascot, big crowds, ect., that would be quite an opportunity for parkersburg. Good fortune if yall are able to.
edrforshey 27 Author Report Share Posted March 2, 2007 I've been to several Massillion Tigers vs Canton McKinley Bulldogs games with Mike Hayden when he was the Athletic Director at Parkersburg. Mike was an assisant coach at Massillion under Earl Bruce for a few years. His wife is from that area. This game is always played the last week of the Ohio season at 1:00pm Saturday. I had a cousin that played for Canton McKinley in the early 90's. 20,000 people at Tigers vs Bulldogs is a small crowd. Massillion's Football Weightroom is bigger than their basketball gym. buzzsawBeaver 12 Report Share Posted March 2, 2007 that's impressive. how big are those schools enrollment wise, and what are their classifications and how big are their classifications in oh?
edrforshey 27 Author Report Share Posted March 2, 2007 Just for comparison: Parkersburg 1530 Massillon Washington: 568 boys + 493 girls = 1061 Division 1 in Ohio, biggest division in Ohio Canton McKinley: 779 boys + 817 girls = 1596 Division 1 in Ohio, biggest division in Ohio They both play in the same district in Ohio, and often meet in the Ohio playoffs, cause Ohio takes 8 teams from each of 4 districts for their playoffs.
