Sources: Dismissed LSU QB Perrilloux failed drug test

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux, who had legal and disciplinary problems throughout his college career, was kicked off the defending national championship team Friday after he failed a drug test.

Ryan Perrilloux exhausted his chances to remain in good standing with coach Les Miles' LSU program.

LSU coach Les Miles did not offer details, but sources within the program told ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach and ESPN's Joe Schad that Perrilloux failed a drug test.

The drug test result led Miles to dismiss Perrilloux on Friday morning, two sources close to the situation told Schad.

Perrilloux, who had been suspended three times in his college career, "didn't fulfill his obligation as an LSU student-athlete," Miles said in a statement. The school said Friday that Perrilloux is expected to finish out the spring semester.

"Ryan was given every opportunity to be a part of this football team," Miles said.

Perrilloux was a backup to Matt Flynn for the Tigers, who defeated Ohio State to win the national title.

Miles suspended Perrilloux, whose father died Feb. 7, in mid-February after he missed a team meeting, skipped some classes and was late for a handful of conditioning workouts.

Perrilloux had to meet academic requirements and do extra conditioning work before he was reinstated April 6, in time to go with the Tigers to meet President Bush at the White House.

Perrilloux was not allowed to play in LSU's spring game.

A person close to Perrilloux told Schad that the quarterback hopes to transfer to a school in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA), where he would have two seasons of eligibility left and could play immediately. Were he to transfer to a Bowl Championship Subdivision (I-A) school, he would have to sit out a season.

Before his last reinstatement, Miles said Perrilloux had been doing better with his classwork. During the spring, redshirt freshman Jarrett Lee and junior Andrew Hatch split time as the quarterback of the Tigers.

In 12 games last season, Perrilloux completed 51 of 75 passes for eight touchdowns and two interceptions. He led LSU to two victories -- including the Southeastern Conference championship game -- when Flynn, a senior, was injured during the 2007 season.

Now, the Tigers will need to defend their title with either Hatch, a former transfer from Harvard, or Lee, who reminds some of Flynn.

Perrilloux, who also was suspended by the Tigers last summer, was on the fringe of a counterfeiting investigation and was caught trying to enter a Baton Rouge casino with false identification. He also was involved in a fracas at a nightclub in November, but was cleared of wrongdoing.

I was just getting ready to post this but you beat me to it. Here is another link off LSU's Scout page too...

Perilloux is Gone

Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has been dismissed from the LSU football team, head coach Les Miles announced on Friday.

“Ryan was given every opportunity to be a part of this football team,†Miles said. “In the end, he didn’t fulfill his obligation as an LSU student-athlete. We hope that a new beginning will benefit him.

“I wish Ryan and his family nothing but the best in any of his future endeavors.â€

Perrilloux is expected to finish out the spring semester at LSU. Miles said he would have no other comment on the matter.

It would be a "crime" for VT not to look at the kid. He'd fit right in with some of the other salt of the earth QB's they've had there the last few years.

Hey, when all else fails, just blame it on there home life. That seems to be the standard excuse.

Perrilloux is a great talent so any team would be stupid not to give him a glance. However, with his record of being an idiot, it would be a huge risk for any team to go further into him than just a glance.

My post wasn't a bash towards Perilloux in any way. I only say that Tech shouldn't be interested because they have 2 very stable quarterbacks with a few years left on them. Not only that, but I don't think even they would jeopardize their image with taking him due to the negative image they already have with the law. Taylor and Glennon both more than compensate for Perilloux's talent in Blacksburg.

I said he should go to Marshall with my tongue in cheek because they are known for giving athletes with a couple run ins with the law a second chance (see Randy Moss and Ahmad). I would take Perilloux with open arms in Huntington!

Just for laughs.................smile when you read this smile.gif

Who brought up WVU? Just because Tech was brought up doesn't mean WVU needs a bashing.

By the Way Stew boots them out of the stadium...for good. Stewart actually kicked off possible starters in DE and LB positions and a back up at RB which would have gotten some carries this year. Stew uses no excuse.

Just kidding man!

please go away forever.

If VT is open for bashing, why can't WVU be? Your logic needs some work. After all this is a issue of LSU doing what they needed to do to release a player that was hurting their team and player, and LSu doing the right thing and letting him go.

No need for bashing a VT program, that despite a few players is a generally good program. Mind you, they dropped Brandon Ore without ever being charged of any police matters at any time, which deserves some merit on their part.

Honestly....your gonna give me that crap? My reply was the one and only guess who. I always get whined to because I bring up VT or someone else does and I add to it in that same fashion. I made a little joke at his expense because he always...ALWAYS ....give me crap because I may do that. So I do what the "master" does and it's wrong? Please. And by the way, Tech has to now. They haven't had a good track record in the recent past. They didn't have the option if they wanted to keep some sort of dignity and respect in the college football world when it comes to player discipline.

I agree with what Les Miles is doing too! I wish all programs had that type of discipline. Where did I bash VT in any of that before my previous reply?

I did that...Mavsrock brought up VT and Gman replied with WVU blah blah blah blah......so he did bring them up in response to a VT jab by Mavs. I just simply jokingly gave it to him like he non jokingly gives it to me when I do the SAME THING! So I was only giving him a hard time for it. I even said smile and joke. Some one is a little too tense in here to lock the beerman for that.

[/ QUOTE ] You are kidding, aren't you? Les Miles gave this kid chance after chance, because he didn't want to lose him. The only reason Miles has kicked him off the team is because he had no choice. I lost a lot of respect for Miles when he didn't stick to his guns the first time he kicked this guy off the team. He caved in and brought him back, only to get burned again by this loser.

I retract my last post then. I knew he had been in trouble and suspended once. But I'm glad he did it now. Some coaches / teams would keep him going to get one last season out him if they didn't have anyone else ready to play. I do get what your saying. I guess it can be a person by person situation based on what trouble they have been in, you are right...should have been gone before now.

WVU has just as much relevance as VT does in this thread - which is ZERO. It was a post based on ignorance from MavsRock and GMan decided to give a little bit back to him. Just read into posts and use a little common sense... Oh, wait...

In case anybody missed this at the beginning of this thread:

LSU says coach Les Miles has kicked quarterback Ryan Perrilloux off the team.

Coach Les Miles said Perrilloux, who had been suspended three times in his college career, "didn't fulfill his obligation as an LSU student-athlete," but did not offer details.

LSU said Friday that Perrilloux is expected to finish out the spring semester at the school.

Miles suspended Perrilloux in February, shortly before spring practice began, for unspecified team violations. Perrilloux's former high school coach, who remains close to the quarterback and his family, has said Perrilloux missed a mandatory team meeting, then missed classes to attend his father's funeral without notifying coaches.

It was the third suspension for Perrilloux, who was considered the favorite to succeed Matt Flynn after leading LSU to two victories -- including the Southeastern Conference championship game -- when Flynn, a senior, was injured during the 2007 season.

Perrilloux, who was also suspended by the Tigers last summer, was on the fringe of a counterfeiting investigation and was caught trying to enter a Baton Rouge casino with false identification. He also was involved in a fracas at a nightclub in November, but was cleared of wrongdoing.

I cant truly blame Miles for giving the kid a second chance, he is a kid, and everyone makes mistakes. That being said, i can also see the points for dismissing him from the team in the beginning of the whole situation. In the end hindsight is 20-20, and maybe he should have been kicked off the team.

But in my mind, i wont condemn Les Miles quite just yet, if actions are repeated with him and his players, then maybe i will...

I don't blame him for giving the kid a second chance either...but after the first screw up, he gave him a second chance, and then after that he screwed up again and he gave him another chance after saying he was gone for good. If you're a coach of young men and you have to be a disciplinarian, and you can't afford to play favorites like Miles did in this situation. If the kid was a third string QB I guarantee you Miles wouldn't have extended the same reprieve.
