New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw has been jailed in southwest Virginia since June 15 for an undisclosed probation violation.

Lt. Jeannie Patrick of the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail confirmed this morning that Bradshaw remains incarcerated. Bradshaw's attorney, Charles Stacey, was not immediately available for comment.

Bradshaw was sentenced to two years of probation for misdemeanor petty larceny in 2006 while a student at Marshall University. He pleaded guilty in Cabell County Circuit Court (W.Va)., of stealing a fellow student's PlayStation video game from a dorm room.

As a rookie last season, Bradshaw led all Giants rushers with 208 in the postseason in helping lead the team to a Super Bowl upset against the New England Patriots.

No other details were immediately available.

The Giants released a statement about Ahmad Bradshaw a few minutes ago:

"We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Ahamd's legal representative. This situation is not the result of any recent incident. It stems from an issue that occurred prior to Ahmad being drafted by the Giants. Beyond that, we have no further comment.

A jail spokesperson told the Bristol Herald Courier that Bradshaw "voluntarily came into jail" because of a court order and "wasn't brought in by police officers and stuff."

We're told the probation violation comes stems from an arrest from when he was a juvenile -- and that file is sealed.

In a statement, the Giants said: "We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Ahmad's legal representative. This situation is not the result of any recent incident. It stems from an issue that occurred prior to Ahmad being drafted by the Giants. Beyond that, we have no further comment."

UPDATE: His lawyer tells TMZ Bradshaw is serving 30 days for a probation violaton, adding Bradshaw "has not been charged with any offense since being drafted by the New York Giants and is eager to put this matter behind him and begin training for next season."

Charles A. Stacy said in a news release that Bradshaw, who reported to the Abingdon Regional Jail on Sunday, is being held on a violation from the Tazewell County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Stacy said the underlying charge stems from an offense that occurred while Bradshaw, a native of Bluefield, was a juvenile.

"Mr. Bradshaw has not been charged with any offense since being drafted by the New York Giants and is eager to put this matter behind him and begin training for next season," Stacy said in the statement.

His office declined to release any additional information.

Bradshaw, a key player in the Giants' Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots last February, reported to the jail under a court order and is being held without bond, jail employee Stephen Clear said.

Bradshaw, who played in college at Marshall, rushed for 45 yards in New York's 17-14 victory against the Patriots. He also recovered a fumble.

The Giants said they were aware of Bradshaw's situation.

"This situation is not the result of any recent incident," the team said. "It stems from an issue that occurred prior to Ahmad being drafted by the Giants. Beyond that, we have no further comment."

After a dazzling career at Graham High School, where he rushed for 5,265 yards and 92 touchdowns, Bradshaw was recruited by and originally enrolled at Virginia but was dismissed from the Cavaliers football team without ever playing a game after pleading guilty to resisting arrest and underage drinking, both misdemeanors, and being placed on probation.

He rushed for almost 3,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in three seasons at Marshall after joining the team as a walk-on but also had another arrest, this time for allegedly stealing a PlayStation 2 video game.

He pleaded guilty in that case to misdemeanor petit larceny and was given two years probation. A 12-month jail sentence was suspended.

Does this seem fishy to anyone else? How the heck is something he did as a minor, prior to receiving probation while an adult at Marshall for larceny, retroactively affecting his probation? I've never heard of such a situation before...

From what I have been told from close friends and family, that story is 100 percent correct. Maybe as part of that he was to serve time and never did. Who knows, that is why it is sealed. Why is this even a story. There are no arrests, there are no accusations, just a young man voluntarily going to serve his time and put it behind him.
