They'll also have the Castlewood-Radford game. Beamerball 566 Report Share Posted March 7, 2009 As already posted, East Mont won over Appy. Floyd County 24 Honaker 18 at the half. Artrip playing in pain after hurting her ankle early in the game. Narrows 52, Council 36 GROUP A DIVISION 1 GIRLS BRISTOL -- Cameron Snidow came off the bench to score 17 of her game-high 21 points in the second half as Narrows shut down Council 52-36 on Saturday in a quarterfinal at Virginia High School. Narrows (19-9) will match up with Mountain Empire District rival Bland County for the fifth time this year in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Thursday at VCU's Siegel Center. Narrows (19-9) opened the game on a 16-3 run. The Green Wave held Council (24-4) scoreless for the first 3:36 of the first half, and the first 4:22 of the second half, when a 13-0 run extended their lead to 33-17 with 3:59 left in the third quarter. Council's leading scorer, Stephanie Cornett, scored 17 points on 4-of-17 shooting. The Cobras lost their third-leading scorer, and one of its best all-around players, Dakota Bostic, to a knee injury in the first quarter Bostic did not return. Burton 32 GROUP A DIVISION 1 GIRLS Morgan Brizendine sparked a 13-0 run early in the fourth quarter and Bland County reached the state semifinals for the second straight year with a 48-32 quarterfinal victory over J.I. Burton at Salem Civic Center. Brizendine finished with 10 points and nine rebounds for Bland County (21-6), which plays either Council or Narrows at VCU's Siegel Center at 3 p.m. Thursday. Laurel Hankins led the Bears in scoring with 12 points. J.I. Burton (23-5) got 13 points and 14 rebounds from sophomore Ra'Shelle Miller, who picked up three fouls in the first half. The Black Raiders cut a 27-18 halftime deficit to 33-30 before Bland County put the game away. Burton was 0-for-15 on 3-point goals and 13-for-53 overall. Floyd County 63, Honaker 41 Four Floyd County players scored in double figures and the Buffaloes forced 31 turnovers in an impressive, 63-41, win over Honaker in the Group A, Division 2 quarterfinals Saturday at Virginia High School. Foul trouble and Honaker's defense held Brittany Avancini, the 2008 Group A Player of the Year, to two points in the first half. Carmen Bolt, Brittany Bourne and Brandy Phillips picked up the slack for the Buffaloes' leading scorer. Threes from Bourne and Phillips keyed a 10-2 run as Floyd County (25-3) took a 24-18 halftime lead. Phillips canned three consecutive shots and Emily Thompson drained a 3-pointer in a 9-0 run that extended the Floyd advantage to 35-21 by the 3:52 mark of the third quarter. It can be said that Region C dominated Region D this year winning 6 out of 8 quarterfinal match-ups. The only Region D teams to win were runner-ups.
