Russell Hammond: And you can tell Rolling Stone magazine that my last words were... I'm on drugs!

[crowd cheers]

William Miller: Russell! I think we should work on those last words!

Russell Hammond: I got it, I got it. Last words - I dig music.

[a few claps]

Russell Hammond: [beat]

Russell Hammond: I'm on drugs!

You all have seen Almost Famous, right?

likewise how can anyone expect them to control health care, or the financial, banking industries, the auto industries, the energy industries. These are the people and institution you would have America become dependent on as providers????

but we depend on them to run the military in a socialist way!

how are you equating the military and socialism?

That said there's actually lots of things the military does that are typical government, that goes with service, but even so the military does an undeniably very thorough job of seeking and destroying when that's the agenda and there aren't any politics or political correctness in the way.

Anyone who has served (in either peace time or during combat operations) knows and understands the need for a truly disciplined military force. One may equate or interpret such policies and actions to maintain this standard in many ways. Is it a “socialist†system? Perhaps. Is it a communist system? Maybe. Your lack of an explanation lends a hint of disingenuousness to your comparison.

Without a clear explanation from you, I can only assume that the social doctrines that you refer to are the privileges that are extended to those that serve. This, sir, is an honored tradition dating back to the conception of the American fighting force. We simply provide such things to those that are willing to take up arms in defense of this great nation. To attempt to extend these same privileges to the civilian sector would greatly diminish the desire to serve.

If, on the other hand, you refer to the doctrines by which we train our service members and high levels of discipline and commitment that such citizens are held to, you need look no further than those fighting forces that we have faced in recent years. Most have lacked the discipline necessary to sustain. Most have digressed into unruly mobs that adhere to no standard of respect for human life.

Define the Military in any way you desire, but understand that to inject the same operational doctrines used in our military onto the civilian population would likely result in revolt and civil war.

I disagree, the CONSTITUTION OF THE USA plainly states that one of the very few purposes of our government is to protect and defend the citizenry. This is one of the reasons that power was granted to the govt. Under the Articles of Confederation our government was too limited so, along came the Constitution.

I do not perceive this as being socialist in any manner, and I have never had a political science professor nor a history professor view it that way. Nonetheless, that does not make it so, therefore your opinion is deserving and thought provoking. I just don't agree with it ...........
