The Mavericks outplayed favored Sissonville in all categories Thursday evening at Appalachian Power Park, taking a 7-2 win over the Indians in the Class AA semifinals at Appalachian Power Park, to reach the championship game in their first trip to the state tournament.

 

James Monroe head coach John Mustain said, "These kids, they've risen to the occasion when they've had to, all year long."

 

Ian Dransfield (8-4) threw an even 100 pitches, handling all seven innings and striking out six Indians. He helped his cause with two doubles — his first two of the season — going 2-for-3 and driving in three runs.
