VivaFutbol 10 Report Share Posted July 14, 2010 http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news;_ylt=AvAn8BjhVvO4K_CwEgf1sW85nYcB?slug=txnewyorkhenry Could this be the signing that pushes the MLS to a new level and attracts more players? I don't know. I can't stand to watch an MLS match because it isn't football. It's not like the European leagues, it's not even on the Brazilian and Argentine leagues. In my opinion, Henry has been the best striker of the past decade, and he could very well lead NYRB to a championship this season.
bhs7695 185 Report Share Posted July 14, 2010 I don't watch much MLS action for the same reasons. If the signing of Beckham didn't help the MLS that much then Henry won't do much better. The MLS, where the world's great players go to finish their careers.
vthokies4life 10 Report Share Posted July 14, 2010 The MLS is coming along. The games are fun (and cheap!) to go to and the football isn't terrible. I love Henry coming here. Definitely going to catch a couple more games now... even though it probably won't be so cheap anymore.
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted July 14, 2010 You are right...MLS isn't terrible...by American standards. However, after watching the World Cup, the MLS is like watching a high school soccer game. Also, the MLS is really "reaching" by signing these "washed-up" former stars of the European Leagues...kinda like some of those "rasslin' organizations" that keep bringing back Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan... VivaFutbol 10 Author Report Share Posted July 14, 2010 I wouldn't call Henry washed up. He still has talent. Enough to score a few times for the best team in the world FC Barcelona last season. The French coach was an idiot not to play him. New York got him off a free transfer and only have to play wages. I call it a steal.

vthokies4life 10 Report Share Posted July 15, 2010 Debatable. Not at all debatable. He's only 32 years old so he has a couple good years ahead of him still. Honestly, Henry (pronounced "on-Ree" for anyone unfamiliar with him) is kind of looking for a place right now. He thought a move to Barcelona would further his career, but it ended up backfiring. He's always talked about how much he loves New York, and, even though the terms of his contract weren't disclosed, he's going to be making comparable, if not more, money playing here than anywhere else he could have signed. I would say that anyone could expect at least 3 competitive, vintage seasons from him. After that, let's consider him "washed up".
VivaFutbol 10 Author Report Share Posted July 15, 2010 The only reason he hasn't been productive recently is because Guardiola has been playing him on the wing at FCB, not at his natural striker position. That's why his form has dipped. At NYRB, he will be a main striker with Juan Pablo Angel, giving NYRB the best striking force the MLS has ever seen. I think Henry is looking for anyplace he can right now since the last two teams he was a part of benched him and that has hurt his value. He still has talent, but no where near his prime and playing in the MLS, the talent pool is less than other leagues around the world. Stay tuned to see what happens.
