The Media Sucks: Exhibit MMMDCCCLXXXVIII

Recommended Posts

This story represents everything WRONG with what is called "media".

This kid is guilty of no less than three felonies (if in VA): grand larceny, assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, and probably some attempted murder/manslaughter/wounding charge. The kid's looking at 3 years in prison at a MINIMUM. Sadly for the kid, the use of a car as a weapon justifies the use of lethal force in defense.

BUT OMFG THE DAD WAS JUST TRYING TO TEACH HIS SON A LESSON!!! EVERYONE FEEL SORRY FOR THE KID WHO JUST COMMITTED THREE FELONIES SERIOUS ENOUGH TO PERMIT DEADLY FORCE IN DEFENSE OF SELF!!!!!111oneoneone

Of course, Gawker makes you click through links to find the good stuff.

"McPherson reportedly followed the vehicle initially before activating his emergency lights. ... Comstock, at one point, is accused of stopping the vehicle and reversing, pushing the trailer into the police car and partially onto its hood, according to police.

Comstock then sped away again, police reported, running a red light and becoming unhitched from the trailer ... and eventually north on Morrill Road – against one-way traffic in the bike and pedestrian lanes, according to police.

Witnesses told police that people were jumping out of the way of the truck, which then jumped the curb onto a grassy area north of the university’s Campanile. McPherson unsuccessfully tried to ram the vehicle to get it to stop, police reported."

I am very sorry the young man died but the facts are he put the lives of others in extreme danger, showing little regard for the lives of others. The officer did what had to be done.  How different would this story have been if he would have hit 3-4 people while he was driving down the sidewalks?

Just a thought, but how close was the officer when he opened fire and where exactly did he shoot, the cab? Couldn't he have tried to shoot out the tires or do something else to disable the vehicle instead of shooting the kid? I've heard a lot of people ask the same questions about the woman who police shot and killed in DC not too long ago.

Legit question but once someone is driving like that its about the same as pulling out a firearm and firing a few shots, they are using a weapon in a dangerous manner. It truly becomes about survival and protecting those who could be harmed.

A lay explanation that's pretty close on the legality...
