Texas Trouble

McCombs is a jackass!  He has his name on buildings on the Texas-Austin campus so he must feel he deserves some form of special treatment. Maybe him and Jerra can start a bowl game for just them since Jerra now thinks the NFL should expand the playoffs.

If allowed to do so, Charlie Strong will win a lot of games at Texas.  His ability to recruit will be a major advantage in a state with the caliber and sheer number of athletes Texas has.

High school coaches in Texas are going to love this guy.

Recruiting (getting the kid to commit) has NEVER been the issue in Texas. Period.  Selection of recruits has been the bigger issue in recent years.  Texas basically picks the kids it wants inside the state.  Its very rare they lose one.  You really dont have to have a staff of top notch recruiters at Texas as much as a staff of guys who know what they want in a kid because of that.

Strong is a good coach, but Im not sure about a great coach yet.  His biggest concern would be his personality fit for this job if he doesnt win quick.

I lived in the area for a number of years.  Texas has and will always get commitments from kids in state but its not as definitive as it was 5 years ago.  Texas has missed on developing the talent it has over the past few years and make no mistake, they get talent.  Just like Auburn, the talent on the coaching staff in recent years was not in the head coaching position.  Texas lost its top assistants after the national championship and they were left with Mack Brown.  He may have been a great coach at one point but not anymore.  Same goes for Auburn.   The talent within the coaching staff during the 2010 national championship season was in the role of offensive coordinator, not head coach!

Go read what other Big 12 coaches have said off the record about Mack Brown.  He became content after winning the national championship and the results on the field reflect that.

Charlie Strong is a great coach and will turn the program around IF he is allowed to do so.
