redtiger 1,742 Report Share Posted November 16, 2014 Haysi lit it up against JI Burton to the tune of 54 points, Sykes was 22 of 27 for 369 yards and 5 TDs, Turner(RB) had 297 all purpose yards 3TDs, Hill(TE/WR) had 9 catches for 221 yards 3 TDs he also had a INT on Defense. The Tigers got a little off track against Honaker but appear to be back on the rails now. Covington "upset" Northwood by a solid margin. I know Covington runs a Spread/Single Wing with a lot of gimmick/gadget/trick plays mixed in, can anyone give me some details about what they run and who their playmakers are? hhstigers7327 217 Report Share Posted November 16, 2014 You know I was telling a buddy the other day when I played I would have liked to see haysi go 0-10 but now that I've grown up a little I have gained a lot of respect you haysi and coach colley and find myself hoping they win except for one game of course. redtiger 1,742 Author Report Share Posted November 16, 2014 Im the same way. Hated Honakers guts as a player but I root hard for them now, hope they go 9-1 every year. Time has softened us old guys! haha
Chappy 72 Report Share Posted November 17, 2014 Covington ran the single wing with a spread feel. They would have a split end or move 3 guys out, but it was mostly single wing. Who to watch, #21 hard runner with speed, QB #5or6 can't remember very quick he can run up the middle or fast enough to get outside (really good on the scramble) throws well on the run. A lot of team speed, they would set Northwood up running up the middle then bust out a toss for big yards. They were pretty balanced on O for a team that runs the single wing. I only recall a couple of "gimmick" plays, a lot of counters, and read option, a few reverses and fake reverse. redtiger

Ryan4VT 4,557 Report Share Posted November 19, 2014 Ryan it's a tough choice but gotta go watch the BDD boys! I think Haysi wins pretty easily. I think RHS and MSHS will be a great one. But that's just one mans opinion.
redtiger 1,742 Author Report Share Posted November 19, 2014 Covington worries me a lot. Not that I doubt the boys in RED, just that they upset the other set of BDD Tigers in the 2nd round last year. I could see it being a tight game. Of course I havent seen any film of them from this season and dont have much to go on
Tiger_Tilt 103 Report Share Posted November 19, 2014 I agree with you Ryan...I think the Tigers win easily also and I think the RHS/MHS game will be a better game...either way it's playoff time and we have worked every Friday night throughout football season and as of right now we are off...so we are heading somewhere to watch some quality football! hhstigers7327 217 Report Share Posted November 19, 2014 Yea redtiger so much for being rewarded for being the 1 and 2 seeds huh? Radford scares me too! But hey can't let them boys from up the road derail the chances of an all bdd state championship. ;). Would that be awesome or what?
redtiger 1,742 Author Report Share Posted November 19, 2014 Tough draws in the 2nd round for sure. Both teams are athletic and their strengths matchup well against the Tigers An all BDD state championship would be incredible but the odds are definitely against the Tigers but thats nothing new. Im hoping for all SWVA 1A and 2A games. Thats a long shot.
redtiger 1,742 Author Report Share Posted November 22, 2014 Tigers 35 Cougars 21 Covington had 1 Offensive TD, 1 Defensive, and 1 on Special Teams. Haysi played very well against a VERY athletic, VERY big team. I will say that without a doubt Covington had the worst sportsmanship I have ever seen. 3-4 of the players and a couple of the coaches were terrible. At the end of the game #71 took a cheap shot(very cheap) on our QB(he was holding the xp) and 2 of our linemen retaliated(protecting their QB) and there were several ejections(at least 1 of their players, 2 of ours and 1-2 of their coaches). Im sure there will be an appeal but if those 2 are out Haysi will be in a tough situation going forward. Hard fought ball game, shame it ended the way it did. Tiger_Tilt 103 Report Share Posted November 22, 2014 I missed the altercation....as soon as Haysi scored the final TD I headed out the gate and returned when I heard the fans going crazy...the refs already had the players separated and they were throwing the multiple flags on the coach from Covington when I got back inside the gate... I agree with you Tiger....horrible sportsmanship from the beginning until the end...taunting the fans as well as the players from Haysi the whole game... The funniest thing was the coach kicking the flag around the field...looked like my 3yr old when she gets mad...lol
redtiger 1,742 Author Report Share Posted November 22, 2014 It was terrible! their coach was a joke! His staff and players were out of control. Some coaches support that kind of nonsense and hes one of them btw change of plans,im gonna head over Big A and support Orange!
biggamesjames 18 Report Share Posted November 22, 2014 Absolutely CLASSLESS display by many Covington players and coaching staff. Their community should be embarrassed going out like that. Haysi should appeal the ejections and should win. Covington was out of it at that point and had nothing to lose by starting a fight except honor and respect. Haysi had a tremendous amount to lose. I believe when VHSL watches the tape they will see Covington was clearly the instigators and should rule accordingly. redtiger
biggamesjames 18 Report Share Posted November 22, 2014 I saw sooo many Honaker players and coaches come to Haysi playoff games supporting the opposing teams last year (Galax and Alta Vista) that it's difficult for me to go show support for them Redtiger...There was an entire cheering section of Honaker people in their stands in both of those games. I will be cheering for Honaker anyway though. Just silently from home :)

Even fans were comin down the bleachers that game!!! And I can speak for myself but I was pullin hard for the ole Red tigers(ugh...bad taste for some reason:)) last year but your home side was full last year pal, so either sit on the not so full visitor side or stand! Next time can I ll sit with you!!! I promise!!! Lol ... Anyway! See ya tomorrow Redtiger!! Hope we can make 2-0 for the BDD this weekend!!! biggamesjames 18 Report Share Posted November 22, 2014 I'm not just talking about Honaker fans sitting over there. I'm talking about those that created a cheering section for the other teams. I'm sure it wasn't everybody from Honaker but I do know a few for sure. One of them is a coach and co-worker of mine and he had quite a few players with him doing the same thing. I do know Honaker's QB was backing Haysi though cause he tailgated with us and stood near us. I know it wasn't everybody in Honaker. Doesn't matter to me anyway though, I'm for Honaker all the way tomorrow. Take Radford down!
