So we've had the discussion all season about who's played who. And SOS so I took the time to look at the remaining 8 teams in 1A West. I came up with playoff teams played and opponents W-L record. Do what you will with this info lol.

#1-Galax 8 playoff teams played 66-42 opponent W-L SOS 41.9

 

#2-GW 8 playoff teams played 45-53 opponent W-L SOS 33.4

 

#3-Hurley 5 playoff teams played 39-69 opponent W-L SOS 18.7

 

#4-FC 7 playoff teams played 63-44 opponent W-L SOS 39.5

 

#5-Chilhowie 7 playoff teams played 50-58 opponent W-L SOS 30.6

 

#6-PM 3 playoff teams played 29-72 opponent W-L SOS 25.2

 

#7-PH 7 playoff teams played 48-58 opponent W-L SOS 27.1

 

#8-Jib 6 playoff teams played 44-63 opponent W-L SOS 21.5

I figured Galax would be at the top. My question is how does PM have higher sos than Hurley?

VHSL put a higher premium on in state competition would be my only guess. And if you take the top 5 rated teams each played PM'S opponents are higher rated.

That is very interesting, especially wihen you think about a few scores, Chilhowie 33, Castlewood 28, Hurley 60, Castlewood 16, I guess that is why they play the games.

I'd imagine PM's win over 3A Rockbridge contributes greatly to SOS.
