pdfootballguy 10 Report Share Posted October 7, 2004 I bought an HP last summer and I hate it. Before that I had a gateway and all it did was crash just like this stuid laptop does. I'm thinking about switching to mac because everybody i've talked to claims that it is virtually imossible to get them to crash and from what I've seen I can still do everything I already do on a MAC. Lance, would you recomend a MAC over PC in the laptop department or are they pretty much just as reliable as the other?
Lance 228 Author Report Share Posted October 8, 2004 Two main issues have long been the drawbacks of MAC's: (1) price (2) compatability Price is still a factor, however compatability has been all but solved for everything but a few very industry specific software programs. With USB stepping up now in computers, most hardware is MAC friendly now as well. Gone are the MAC horrors of finding hardware and software of the old days. Most everything you will see now will work on both systems, or at the least both versions are carried by retailers. the main thing is price...for what you are going to pay for a good apple laptop, you can get one hell of a PC version...thats where the gap is. However, as far as virus problems and reliability goes, the MAC is the better deal I think. The latest OS from MAC is 10.3.5 and it's a good one...it's leaps beyond XP and is very user friendly. Once you spend a few hours on it and figure out where things are in relation to where they are on the PC, you'll be well on your way to a happy MAC experience. If you don't mind spending a little more, you will not be let down with a MAC laptop...also if you are in to doing film or music editing or creation at all, MAC is by far the best route to go...the iLife04 package, which you can currently get for FREE with OS X purchase at www.apple.com is amazing. I have one set up in my office if you are ever in Richlands and want to come in and surf around on it before you drop $1000+ on a laptop to see for yourself. If you are a student, Apple also offers a discount on hardware and software..so you can save a few bucks...
