  1. Yes. They’re in the AAC.
  2. What’s the plan for middle school & JV games?
  3. First Friday night game wasn’t played here until 2007 when they finally got lights installed.
  4. “BLUEFIELD, Va. — Town officials in Bluefield, Va. are seeking a resolution to the ongoing stadium usage impasse that could effect where the home games of the Graham G-Men are played. However, officials with the town of Bluefield, Va., are concerned about the loss of revenue to area businesses if the Graham High School fan base would have to travel to Tazewell. They also have concerns for the safety of those parents and fans who would have to travel a longer distance to watch a home game, according to Bluefield, Va. Town Manager Andrew Hanson. “Yes the town does have a concern that there would be an economic loss to the town should the games not be played in one of the two Bluefields,” Hanson said. “And we have voiced that concern to the school superintendent. And voiced the concern to the county administrator and to our county representative. So from the economic and business side of the house, the town does have an interest and is concerned about that, and for the safety of the parents and children that would be driving away from the area for the home games.” While the town hasn’t received a response yet from the school system, the issue is expected to be discussed in a closed-door executive session of the Bluefield, Va. Town Council on June 24. Hanson said Chuck Presley, the Eastern District representative on the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors, has been asked to attend that meeting.“ Town officials seek resolution to stadium impasse. - BDTONLINE.com
  5. From personal experience in no particular order BEST: Honaker - Updated with Air Conditioning Giles - Good size & it’s neat watching a game from the away team’s side Virginia High - Bathrooms in the press box Ridgeview - WiFi, media packets & they brought me cowboy beans at halftime Fort Chiswell - Decent size room and it’s interesting watching their fans sit in the dark Worst: Lebanon - a hike through the school to cram into one room with everyone else Marion - I forgot my telescope at home Mitchell Stadium - Dead flies & jammed cell signal Princeton - Small room & very hot Union - Even smaller room
  6. “Dr. Stacy advised Board members that the Mitchell Stadium agreement was for two years beginning August 1, 2023 and concluding on July 31, 2025 at a cost of $60,000 per year. According to the agreement, the school division would not be charged the extra $5,000 per playoff games, and Graham High School would not have to turn over 25% of the concession revenue, as in past years.”
  7. I’ve read the entirety of both the 3 year and 5 year contract offers and there is nothing in either saying an amount that the Tazewell County School Board would have to pay extra for playoff games. The last contract that was signed (2023-2025) stated that there would be no extra charges for playoff games & Graham would no longer have to give 25% of their concession stand money back to the city of Bluefield.
  8. Tazewell was down 21-0 in the first quarter and came back and won 62-61 in double OT
  9. I think we’re on two different topics. I’m not looking for dirt. To start over - What responsibilities do the Board of Supervisors have when it comes to this situation? I know they supplement money annually to the school board but is any of that money earmarked for athletics? Has there been a precedent set of them helping when it comes to athletic facilities at the schools? Are they contributing money to Richlands’ new baseball field or wrestling room? Did they help with Graham’s basketball gym behind the school? For the record - I 100% believe that Graham should have their own stadium, so I apologize if this is coming off as condescending. I’m honestly asking questions that I’d like to learn the answers to.
  10. No problem. I asked Bigfoot to do it anyway.
  11. Does one supervisor get to decide the decisions for the entire board? If that answer is “no”, then I’d like to be educated.
  12. But you’re the one blaming them? If they are going something wrong enough for you to call for their constituents to vote them out, wouldn’t this be a good time to educate everyone on the situation?
  13. ok… so no specifics?
  14. here is a pic I took from the press box at Fort Chiswell. If you look at the bottom of the pic you can see the fans sitting in the dark.
  15. In your opinion - what is the Board of Supervisors doing wrong in this situation? I keep seeing the blame being tossed on them but I’m wondering specifics.
  16. Dr. Stacy shared quotes to rubberize the Tazewell High School track. He advised his goal was to rubberize all three tracks, but at this time he asked permission to rubberize the one centrally located, which would be Tazewell High School. The other two high schools could participate in sanctioned state meets and not have to travel so far. Dr. Stacy recommended the Board approve the quote from Baseline Sports Construction in the amount of $201,718.00. Vice-Chair Robinson questioned when the work at the Richlands High School track would be finished. Dr. Stacy advised it should be finished soon, weather permitting. Vice-Chair Robinson made a motion to rubberize the Tazewell High School track with the new grade rubber surface for $201,718 with Baseline Sports Construction. Mrs. Whittington seconded the motion, and the Board unanimously approved.
  17. The asphalt doesn’t get dug up. The rubberized track has to have a base layer to cure to. similar to this - https://youtu.be/n1JPsmNehQY?si=50bdQRbN8rOzMtzF
  18. No, there’s only 2 scheduling conflicts out of the 5 home games. Thats not out of the ordinary. Graham played two Thursday games last season at Mitchell Stadium (Galax & Pulaski Co.) due to scheduling conflict. Fwiw, Richlands plays away games on 9/12 & 10/24 so there would be an open stadium on the only two days there would be scheduling conflicts in 2025.
  19. The only scheduling conflicts are 9/12 Union @ Graham 9/12 Grayson Co. @ Tazewell & 10/24 Lebanon @ Graham 10/24 Richlands @ Tazewell
  20. Not a rumor. It was confirmed at the April school board meeting that Tazewell’s track is to be rubberized. The work should be completed in the next couple of months.
  21. This picture missed Nolan Ryan by 10 years
  22. Chilhowie is one of my favorite small stadiums.
