I'm not a Union guy. From what I've been told it was Barry Reed who didn't want to play Union-Central twice and he persuaded Battle-Lebanon-Lee to vote with him, GC-Union-Central wanted round robin play. He's now forced his way out of the league maybe he'll have more fun ruining things for Richlands and the like moving forward.
The regular season conference champion gets one of the two auto bids to the west tournament the conference tournament champion gets the other. Hence why Va. High's refusal to play everybody twice is a huge deal. The principals have screwed this up big time, period. I kind of hope a big crazy tie happens and they have no clue what to do. The fact the fans don't even know the setup, myself included, speaks to how asinine this is. Rumor is next year John Battle is going to refuse to play people twice so only one of two games will count, if that's the case, why even go watch the games? Only like six games matter, the rest are a waste of time.
Maybe I am missing something. VHS is 7-1 in conference 40. Their only conference loss was to Gate City. They only have one conference game left (tonight v. Union). Their other game is v. Abingdon (non-conference). VHS did lose to Union but that was in the Alpha Natural Resources Tournament and I do not believe that tournament losses count in the conference standings totals. Looks to me like VHS can do no worse than tie for the #1 seed since everyone else in the conference has at least 2 losses already.
Even if there was a tie, I doubt there would be a playoff for conference seedings. I believe the conference ADs got together in the summer to determine the format to break ties. Head-to-head, record v. common opponents, district champs, etc will probably decide the conference seedings. I do not believe there is enough time, given the state dates o have extra playoff games.
Virginia High's basic refusal to play everyone in the league (specifically the Wise Co schools twice) may bite them and bite them hard. No way Union could sweep them but in a one game situation at Union, the Bears have a great shot. To me, they would have to have a playoff, the conference champ gets the auto bid to the regional or whatever its called now.
If they tie, what do they do? I guess they have some playoff? With 4 teams though how with the conference tournament coming up, they would have to back it up I assume?
I waited a few days to see if he would even post about it but, it's obvious he's not. Union losses and he's nowhere to be found, they win and he thinks they won the state title. My biggest gripe with the guy, take the good with the bad. Don't just show up here when your team wins a game.
Ridgeview is about to experience what Clintwood did for the late part of the 90's and early 00's. They are going to play second fiddle to GC and now Union. It'd be great to see them reach that level soon but I think a big adjustment period is coming especially for the Haysi crew. They pretty much never played anybody.
You are one of two things, one of Phil's sons (I doubt that) or some guy who wanted to play fb but was never good enough and followed the team everywhere they went wishing you were on the team. Tell us which is it?
Dude Bro Cameron Salyers led the team with 18 points, 6 FG and 5-7 from the FT line (1 3PM) while playing harassing defense (a lot of the times holding, but I wont go into that). Caleb Mills was the only other Warrior in double figures with 14, hitting four three point shots and two FTs). Daniel England led Central with six rebounds.
Total: 16 FG (6-10 from 3pt), 8-14 from FT line.
Union:
Union was led by Jake Barnett's 17 points (7 FG, 3-3 from the line) and he added seven rebounds and at least two blocks. James Mitchell was the only other Bear in double figures, adding 10 points (5 FG) and at least four blocks. Jay Gavin led Union in rebounds with seven, adding two points and at least one block. Rashaan Noaks only had two points, but had two crucial offensive rebounds to seal the game.
Total: 21 FG (3 3PM), 4-9 FT. Union had shot two free throws until the last minute of the game. Central shot all of their FTs before the last minute of the game.
And I apologize for short changing Eliza Mullins, who led the Central girls with 16 points (3 3PM) while Reynolds had 8. Ali Morgan led Union with 11 points.
Only way Union will ever win is by holding back, they don't have the athletes PV or Appy had in the 90s. Holding back is a must if they want to stay competitive.
PV is dead and has been for 4 yrs. Wake up and smell the coffee. I ain't even from GC, I'm just a local fan. By the way you've made very sexist remarks in this thread. You should apologize!
GC has never lost a big game to Union in any sport, period. GC wins in the football playoffs and the basketball tournament and the volleyball tournament. I just hope they can beat Va so GC can win the league again. Out of curiosity, do you sleep with a Phil Robbins picture every night?
GC won the JV game. This is a one game blip on the radar. GC will win at home by 10 or more. Union will probably lose their next game cause they'll still be celebrating from this win.

But, but, but, I thought Mike Goforth ruined Union's shot? You don't even know when the games are or what's going on.
